I found this browsing through another guild (therefore I deny all credit for fully finding this myself)

http://www.musicfanclubs.org/cure/press/I112.html

It's a group interview with the better known members of early goth rock bands and music journalists of the eighties.
Pretty good read smile ; feel free to discuss its contents.

Pretty cool set of quotes, though, not all are entirely up to date. Given that the interviews are all 10 years old (or older), many of these comments have been taken back since.

In "Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box" they have a great series of modern quotes addressing the term goth. I'd suggest you check it out, if you can.

It's a good webpage none the less.

Well, I know the original people in the scene, bands discluded, are either shaking their heads in "wtf" shame, or turning over in their graves. XD

At the same time, though, even relatively new kids like me(only, what, 8 years now into it?) are going "why does everyone like Hot Topic? I only liked it the first time I walked in."

Ah, people are silly, that's what it amounts to. By all accounts, I'm not even "goth". I love life, I don't want to die yet, I don't always wear dark colors, I hardly ever wear makeup, I enjoy neon, I listen to Killswitch and Dragonforce alongside my Bauhaus and Banshees, I'm not spending an arm and a leg on clothes, I walk around during the day.... hehehe. I don't fit the stereotypical cliche at all.

But, according to anyone who really knows me, I'm the gothiest person out there. I don't get it.... I just don't.

Yet I'm on the guild anyways. mrgreen

SIOUXSIE: I think Robert's having this reaction because he is the original goth. He invented it himself. The only reason why you have people looking like clowns is because when Robert was in the Banshees he just couldn't get my makeup right. It's that lipstick he put on without a mirror. I tried telling him that, but would he listen? Nooooo

SMITH: I was the only real goth in the Banshees.

SIOUXSIE: Oh, of course.

SMITH: When you get Siouxsie to deny that the Banshees were goth, then you've really got a story.

SIOUXSIE: We're not!!! Goth doesn't exist!

lol LOL. Those two crack me up.

I like that interview also, because it proves Goth isn't all morbid and dark ALL the time, and we do have senses of humor. XD

To be honest, I'm a little surprised that senor Smith didn't retaliate by ripping on Siouxsie for her massive boots and occasional swastika armband rofl

She only wore the Nazi paraphenilia really early on in her career, in the mid-70's when she would also perform topless.

By the time Smith came along in the early 80's, she had moved on to the more sophisticated "Ice Queen" look.

i think most of us that are real goths laugh at morbidity. i for one found the whole virginia tech thing to be hilarious, mostly because of the stupidity of people. "whats this? a guy with a gun? i think i'll let him shoot me!" HIT THE GROUND YOU STUPID ********! USE A CORPSE AS A SHIELD AND GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO BREAK THAT ******** NECK!

...No offense, Dragon, but I don't think most goths think like that. O_o

I don't think anybody should think like that...

Okay, I can see that, given that the early Banshees were primarily a punk rock band...
though I wonder at what point she went from teased hair to the flatter look (like in the video for "Peek-A-Boo"... unless that is the exact same point that you're talking about >.<)

@Crimson Thanatos: I agree; some people have disturbing senses of humor, though. And they tend to disregard the fact that in times of shock, it's hard to react.

Earliest on, she had a short little pixy-cut. She gradually grew it out into the teased stage of the early and mid eighties, then cropped it to a flapper's bob in the late 80's. She's kept it about that length since.

Oooh, I didn't know she did the first one... but then again, I'm not really that knowledgeable on the history of S&tB, having only two albums sweatdrop

Also, in regards to that "Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box", I tried looking up the text to it, but I guess I'd have to buy the whole whole thing in order to see what you're talking about...
but for only about $45 on darkpub.com, that's a pretty good price mrgreen (Unless I find it at Borders first... pricier, but more accessible)
