Beyond the band saving lives and having song filled with deep and poetic meaning. (Before anyone jumps on me, they saved my life, but that's another story) Has anyone ever just left the messages and memories at the door and just listened to the lyrics? The sound? I was always so wrpped up in the songs meanings, and what they've done for me. Now, not only do I see the poetry that some of the lyrics contain (go listen to Early Sunsets over Monroeville, and see what I'm babbling about. Go on. We'll be here when you get back)
You're back. Good. Now after disengaging the meaning and messages, doing this to all their songs, not only do the lyrics seem moe poetical to me, listening to when he (Gee) takes breaths and how he makes things sound when singing live have enabled me to (in mine and a couple others views) become a dynamite singer. Nowhere near as good as Gerard obviously, but when I'm just singing randomly, people say the difference is noticeable.
So while they saved pretty much all our lives, and different songs have different relevance to each of us, listening on a different level can have different results, and can lead to greater things.
(Disclaimer: This three paragraph outburst was written to say what I wanna say, and I just feel like this, so if anyone is offended or has a different opinion, then please air it. I like discussion)

Good topic.
I think that because MCR's lyrics are so interesting, we're trying to look for the meaning. Their lyrics tell a story. But when I just listen to them, I can hear the story more clearly than I could before.
God I love this band. ^^;;

I completely agree. The lyrics have a meaning. I think that if someone were to listen all the way through "The Black Parade" WITHOUT knowing it's a concept album, I believe they'd follow the story. I, too, have basically taken breathing lessons from Gee. I used to be in chorus before I came upon My Chem, and I couldn't hold a note because I sucked at it. Then, I was in chorus post-MCR and my breathing was a lot better (according to my teacher). So, I completely agree with you. 3nodding

Yup, totally agree with you. The lyrics are awesome. And I can pick out random ones that just mean stuff to me that the rest of the song doesn't.
And has anyone listened to the stripped down versions off of The Immortality Project? There's like hidden messages in a couple, like Cemetary Drive.
There's a line of 'don't do it' repeated over and over again, and I've heard, and belive, that they're trying to get you to stop abusing yourself if you do.
These guys rock like that.

I do competely agree with you and they did save my life too...
Funny thing is, we're actually going over sound devices in Poerty for AP Enlgish right now and I get to pick 4 pieces of poetry and annotate them and such; my teacher said one could be a song, so I'm going to do "Sleep"
Their songs are very poetic and metaphorical...that's one of the things I love about them so much!

one thing i love about My Chem, is that when you listen, it`s not just one sound. it kind of pulls your ears into different directions, and you hear every little sound each different instrument makes.
it`s hard to explain. >.<

I am a big theatre person. And I learned when you sing a song from a musical, you start one place and end up in another. The feeling is supposed to take you to another feeling, something is realized durring the song.
That's what MCR does to me. They have a lot of feeling into their music. And rather than a chourus of "baby I love you"s. The music is trying to tell a story or express a feeling. Just like show-music.
Which leads me to belive Gerard Way would be a good actor. :3

the lyrics really do flow poetically. And the words themselves, along with the music, are hauntingly beautiful, even without knowing the message behind them.

I'm going to copy and paste something I wrote to one of the group leaders here: 'To be honest each song reminded me of a short film - each one different but with the same references written and produced by the same director.' That's how I feel about all three of their albums. UH! My Chem you make my heart burn.
