Willpower! (and a little motivation)

Without it, you're not going to lose a thing.

It's easy to eat something bad for you and say 'ohhh, just this once'
or 'Im having a bad day and this will help me feel better'
and the worst 'Im not going to lose it ANYWAY, so why not?'

You can buy all sorts of equipment, nutritional guides, exercise videos, but they're not going to do a thing shoved away on some shelf or under your bed.

YOU are responsible for keeping you in shape.
It's easier to make an excuse than go out and do something about it.

Now, I hear you saying 'oh, but I have no willpower.' which is a lie.
Everyone has willpower, and it is an extremely powerful tool. Exercise it!
Start little maybe.

"Im going to have HALF this pop and THATS it'
then work up to bigger things
'I WILL do ALL my exercises today'

You don't need any fancy gizmos to lose weight, or any 'diet' trend either.
You need a little common sense (eat healthy, avoid junkfood) and a little willpower (I WILL stop when I'm full) and some motivation (I want to be able to run 5 miles/ I want to look good in my new jeans etc)

Above all; YOU are responsible for your own weightloss.
So don't sit and think about it.
Don't say 'oh it's too hard' Whining doesn't burn calories
or 'oh but I dont have the right this or that'
There are THOUSANDS of exercises that can be done without any equipment what so ever.
Just go for it!
I guarantee it will work.

I was so proud when I had willpower to not eat a doughnut, and instead I had an orange. I felt great, even thoug I still want a doughnut, I am full so I don't need it.

I agree with what you are saying. I am starting to have willpower, i never really had it, all I did was eat what I want and exercise a lot. But only exercise when I felt like it.

I hope this is something I can develop. I would sometimes tell myself "Who cares? You're gonna be a cow forever, anyway" as an excuse to eat poorly.

It's not acceptable >.<

surprised Bad self-talk! I also have a problem with bad self talk, more with school than fitness but it is something you have to work on in order to get things done. It's hard but you have to retrain your brain to tell you positive things. For me it helped writing little affirmations down and putting them where I can see them. Things like "I have value", "I can do anything I put my mind to" and other junk. Then you have to catch yourself when you start thinking badly of yourself and redirect to "I'm strong and capable" or other good self-talk. Man, it's hard but it does work.

The best thing is to never tell yourself 'I cant'
if you mess up, ask yourself 'what happened, and what can I do next time'
It is definately something you develope with practice!
There are tons of self-help books on finding motivation and self-control (and most aren;t even about weight loss!)
It could be a good place to start!
Places like weight-watchers etc, are also good places.
I've actually found the best weight loss help for me suprisingly enough was right here. THE INTERNET!
Weird huh?
It just helps me relate to people going through the same thing, and sharing all your little triumphs with somebody who thinks it's a big deal helps too.

I could tell my friend 'I ate an apple instead of buying a chocolate bar' and they'd be like 'oh, ok?'
but on groups like this, I get at least 5 or 6 'Good for you! Keep it up!' type comments.
