Ok, it looks like a few people are interested in doing a colab, so here is the general information. If you would like to join, pm me with your character. He or She must fit into the guidelines of my world, but otherwise they can be anything you want.

The World

(This world is my own. No one else has permission to use it outside of this story.)

The world is called Alcarah by the people that live there. It has two countries, Alcaran and Alcarda.

Alcaran is the larger country, and is inhabited by the Mages (more on them later) and humans. It has one large desert, The Andoa, which covers most of the upper half of the continent. Separating the desert from the lush grasslands that covers the entire souther half of the continent is a large band of trees that stretches from coastline to coastline. It is called the Andoa Forest, and is inhabited by monkey-like creatures called Mirrew, which often are kept as pets. There are also little dragon like creatures called Lizen, which are found mostly in the forrest but live elswhere. (More on the creatures later as well.) Civilization started here in one city, called Cardahn, and most people still live close to it. It has been growing steadily bigger, in circles spreading out so that it reaches the coast on one side and the forest on another. The government stays here. There are a few small towns that have been started up and down the coast by brave people, but none are on the part of the coast facing Alcarda. There is great danger from Alcardan pirates.
Alcaran is governed by a union between the human king, a mage of royal blood (often the second son or daughter of the king) and the Archmage. Both must agree on a course of action before it can be taken for the country. This is a good balance as the far-sighted and very experianced Archmage can often tell a bad move before the kind finishes explaining it. Of course, there have been one or two bad archmages, but they have been balanced by very good kings (or in several cases) a queen.

Alcarda is a smaller continent, vaugly round in shape, devided from Alcaran by half an ocean and a string of islands that are inhabited by savage peoples who have very little intrest in the outside worlds. It is composed of all humans, most the magicless offspring of mages. They all have one thing in common. They DO NOT like the mages. It would please them greatly to see the mages thrown from Alcarah to never return. Thier continent is mostly forest, but they have cut down most of the center in order to build towns and cities. They have one main city, called Rilam.
The government is situated in Rilam, and is ruled by the strongest. Needles to say, one person is not on the throne for very long. There have been rumors, however, of a group of people who have banded together and taken power. This cannot be confirmed because anyone who has entered Alcarda from Alcaran has either come back dead, or not at all. Very little is known about these people.

*note- if you would like to make a person from Alcarda, I will be willing to give you the information on the country, but as this story will be taking place in Alcaran for most of it, the number if Alcardan characters should be limited to one or two. Remember, no one in Alcaran knows much of anything about Alcarda, and are highly suspicious of its people.

The two countries have been fuding for as far as anyone can remember. Written history only started up a hundred or so years ago, so all that people know is what the mages remember and the ledgends from before then.

The most popular ledgend of how the fighting started is that an Alcaran Archmage had a child that had only a very little magic. That child, Meghana, expected to become Archmage after her mother, but her mother took an apprentice, Rya, and began training him to replace her. Slighted and bitter, Meghana left Alcaran for Alcarda, which was a very peacefull country. There she poisoned the minds of its people until they went to war against Alcaran. It was a long and bloody war, as such things usually are, and in the final battle the Archmage killed her child. While she was mourning the body one of the remaining Alcardans came up behind her and put a spear through her heart. Though the Alcardans were forced back to thier homes, the war was never really finished, and enmity remains to this day, the souls of Rya and Meghana still battle for power, using the lives of those born in this time.

The Creatures

The Mages
Prehaps the most influential race in Alcarah is the mages. They live longer than most humans, having a lifespan measured in hundreds of years. The oldest living mage at the moment is a man named Hrya, who had reached the age of 345. The mages are the only magical race on Alcarah besides the Lizen. They can control everything but the weather, and answer to a mage's Council and to the Archmage. The Archmage is generally the most powerful mage, but there are a few exceptions. The current one is a man named Kian, who, though powerful, is no match for someone like Hrya. He is known for his wisdom and fairnes. (more on magic later)

Mirrew
Mirrew are monkey-like creatures with cream-colored fur. They emit noises like a cat's meow and have large bright colored eyes. Mirrew are sweet-tempered creatures and make excelent pets.

Lizen
Lizen are small dragon-like creatures who can breath small flames and smoke. They despise humans but love mages. They feed on magic, so it takes a strong mage to keep one as a pet. Many of the mages do have them, and they make delightful companions as long as they are not brought into contact with those who have no magic.

Furel
Furel are small, sensless creatures. They require much looking after, for they cannot tell food from a brick wall, or thier master from an enemy. They resemble small balls of fur with four tiny feet and small beady black eyes. A common insult is 'as stupid as a Furel'.

Magic

Magic comes in varying colors, according to the one that uses it. Various talents can be aquired with it, including potion making and war magic. Magic weapons include spark spears and invisible bombs of fire. Your imagination is your limit when working with magic, but only a few have it. No one knows why only some have magic. It runs in families, but there is a chance that a human may be born with it.

Mages are sent to school for thirty years to learn to use the magic properly, but as thirty is still quite young for a mage, it is not as much a burden on them as the eighteen required years for humans. Recently there have been specialist schools popping up, which require another ten years.

Average life expectancy for someone with magic is about 250 years, but as knowledge of magic is improving, so is the life expectancy of those who use it. Most mages die in accidents resulting from a misuse of magic.

Besides, listening spells can be detected by the observant person. Or so he says. His temper is a match for Ailara's, as calm as hers is violent. He hates fighting. You wouldn't mind it if I started throwning around some ideas in here would you? Or should I pm those to you?

[I've alwasy loved making up history, and cooking up theories on fictional things is just as fun.]
[Ermm on that note, what exactly am I allowed to make up?]
[Oh and who's the third member?]

[This was just me talking; but im a bit proud of it, so Im gonna leave it up until we need the space.]

[I know this is storms world but I just wana throw in a few suggestions, or rather ideas for the setting. ]

Well firstly I want to go into magic theory.

I've learned my lesson and will not be going back to the complex magic-theory anytime soon. This should be just a simple spell-object-circumstances spell system (really just classic one word spells, along with things that allow you to do them, then of course the nature of the person and the contents and then the current circumstances)

Magic

But magic needs restrictions, specific restrictions.

We need a rule of thumb for mages something that allows only them to use magic. I suppose blood will do fine, but maybe we should restrict the spells a person can use with accordance to their blood.

Like the Airdelian Straus Family is only capable of casting spells written by the moon goddess descendent, and they must cast those spells in her language and with the specific syntax of, and with limit to, the spells she made.

The Airdelian Straus Family should also be able to receive certain innate traits, maybe something like invisibility, or perhaps random foresight.

This theory allows for humans who may have had a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandfather to randomly inherit the ability to cast magic because the gene may randomly take precedence at any random time even though none of your family has had any magical abilities. Of course, that would mean that you would either have to be contempt with your innate magic or go out and find the family who holds your spells...

Color coordinated spells?

so that’s just one theory, Sorry it hasn’t got a lot to do with colors ^_^ Im sure we could graft the types of magic with different colors in accordance with what they do....yeah that would be cool! In fact here I think I can graft the colors on right now:

healing spells are often times done with the most passion and thus contain several colors when they are cast. The colors mix to become white, which thus explains the white glow taken on by healing spells and spells of such nature.

sinister spells often contain no colors as they are done discreetly or for a covert nature, this is paralleled with the cold nature of such spells.

Spells of destruction are often violet with shades of blue, which are the colors taken on by the wisps of heat that are emitted by ths spells source, This paralleled with anger in that violet contains the most energy of all the colors. The stronger and more enraged the spell caster, the more violet the light from their spells become.

Spells of wit ( hexes and other things that affect the forms and circumstances of a person or thing) are often green and yellow. These spells usually alternate in a stream of both colors. Spells of wit are often marked with highly complex spell light that is emitted in a series of minuscule lines. The obvious parallel here is the complex nature of hexes. In fact, the more complex the spell, the greater the separation of the two colors into smaller and smaller threads of light.

Spells of nature ( enchantments- spells that grant a trait to an ordinary object- or things that trigger chain effects in nature ) are orange and yellow, depending on the nature of the spell. Enchantments are generally yellow, which makes sense as they are often complex and thus hold a close relationship with spells of wit. Spells that control traits of nature ( sometimes the weather and at other times things as mundane as the brightness of sunlight in the area) are often more orange, but can contain a yellowish haze if the spell must effect a great many number of natural factors. The most complex nature altering spells are those that direct wind flow.

Nova, I dont mind you pointing out my shortcomings, but do try to not make out that you are better than me in public. I know what it takes to do a good colaborative, and I also know that I dont like people patronizing me about things I already know. I expect the other people who look at this thread feel the same. If I wanted guidelines posted up here, I'd have done them myself. As I never even thought of it, I would not have minded one bit if you would have sent me a PM. I suspect you just put off a prospective writer or two.
Also, I dont mind it in PMs, but this is my idea really, and I'd rather like to get the details straight on my own. As I was going to put up before you put in your ideas on magic, the color of the magic is decided by the nature of the person, as is the strength. The more inner strength they have, the more powerful they are. Thier personality also gives them the type of spells that they can use. Volatile personalities tend to gravitate towars war spells and fire element spells. Calmer personalities tend to use water-based spells like healing. I will adress government and other things when I am less.... annoyed.

Eh... *rubs head in emberrasment* Sorry about that rant. I just got alittle annoyed. I've been on the brink of a real big rant for days now, and I think that nearly tipped me over the edge. Or it could be the pain pills. (I sprained my ankle yesterday, tripping over a log while my dad and I tried to extract a tree from the roof of my house.)
But I was meaning to say hi! I think that now that I am back from vacation we can get started, so what do you guys want to do with the plot? I know where I'd like it to go, but I'd like to see some of your ideas! I was thinking a sort of spy story, where our characters try to get into the Alcardan government and eventually manage to stop a war that breaks out between the two countries.
I'll update government and other things soon. I've got to go to bed at the moment, but I will be back tomorrow!

I like the spy story thing but i think we need to know a little bit more about the world until we can build anything of the sort. But ive learned my lesson, and i wont be moving without you pressent and leading the way.

ERmm if you dont mind, i would like to be the antagonist... well that is i would like to control who ever is going to profit from the war.

thats all.

I like that idea! It would be better than having a group-controlled antagonist! I was thinking that the antagonists would be a group of people who took over the country, with a guy at the head, but its up to you, if you want it to be a girl thats fine with me- it'll be your character!

You can certainly post your ideas here! You can make up anything having to do with plot, but please stick to my world. Where that gets ambiguous (the parts I havent posted yet and stuff) I'll tell you. Please send me your character(s) though, so I can post them.
