About a month ago my friends discovered that a previous friend of mine (let's call her Kelsey) had been cutting herself. They came to me and told me about it because they know that I have dealt with it myself. About two weeks ago we told Kelsey's mom about her cutting herself. Last week her ex-boyfriend and I talked and told me that we shouldn't have done so because of the complications that can come with it (such as the pills). So my question is: was it right to tell her mom?

No it wasn't, she told you in confidence because she felt her mum wouldn't understand.

Bullshit her Mum didn't care.

Years ago my Mum found out I did it and still to this day she constantly finds excuses to raid my room for scissors and signs me up for the cutters anonymous sessions the community health clinic.
It sounds comical, but it's really not.

If your friend wanted your Mum to know she'd have told her.
And chances are you've ******** up whatever chance you thought you had of helping her through it.

That happened to me too. It's really quite annoying and unnecessary. So.... yeah. You had your heart in the right place hun, but it shouldn't have been dealt with that way.
