Official Guild Hang-Out!
I'm the Captain of this Guild, yada yada yada...fine print.
Yet, I am never around. Like. Ever ;o; You people are probably like whoa, who's this? I never knew this guild even had a Captain =D
So that's what this thread is going to be.....wait, does that make any sense?
Okay, starting over. This thread is just going to be a general place I'm going to stop and post in every day or so, and it's also open to any user to post in for whatever reason, so long as it isn't A. A bump, or B. a total random unreadable post that makes absolutely no sense out of context =P
I'd realy like to talk to some of you guys ;o; and I'm sure at least one or two of you might even like to talk to me.
You can post whatever you like here or discuss whatever you like. All members are encouraged and welcome to post! Only rules are no pg-13+ material, and no page streaching nor quotting of images.

Haha, I'm glad to see you're making an attempt to be more active, as a Captain :3 I know I've been slightly inactive (other than moving & deleting threads) in a couple guilds I'm just Crew in. And your guild is HUEGLIEKWHOA, so I can see how that'd be. XD

Might as well bring this up since I'm posting. >_> Why, exactly, are scanlations against the rules of this guild? I'm not going to run around screaming for them, but I'm curious to know why. I remember bringing it up with somebody on the Crew a while ago, and I.. didn't really get a reason. sweatdrop All I was told was that they were against the rules of Gaia, which I was fairly sure they weren't, so, I did PM a mod about the issue, and this is the response I got:
Morbid Gnome Skizzors About it being okay to post scanlations of unlicensed manga in guilds.. well, is it? We only delete/warn for licensed stuff on Gaia, so unlicensed manga is fair game. 3nodding

Let me put it to you this way, regardless of Gaia's stance on things, THIS GUILD does not condone piracy. Distribution of scanlations is piracy, regardless of their grassroots advertising value or whatever other excuse you make up to allow you to sleep better at night. People say the same things about mp3s. "Oh, I just download a song or two and if I like it, I buy the album." This "it's ok if it's not licensed here" thing really comes down to "It's ok because I'm not ripping off anyone in the US who will sue me." But you're still ripping off someone somewhere. That makes it piracy.
Secondly, Gaia is a PG-13 website, and as such our guild must meet these ratings standards. Yaoi, in its truest form is a bunch of smut. Scanlations of yaoi is just a bunch of smut, and even if it isn't, scanlation groups carefully watermark their projects with their website addresses, thus giving people access to lots of hardcore smut. It is not acceptable to give people access to this kind of thing here on Gaia. We're not going to put that stuff into anybody's hands, that just begging for our guild to be shut down. It is also unacceptable to edit out the addresses of these scanlators for this next reason.
Scanlation groups actually work hard on translating that stuff and most of them ask that their projects not be altered or redistributed. We like to respect peoples' hard work, not just these scanlators, but the mangaka and doujinshika themselves who originally created these works. Therefore, it is our stance and policy that scanlations not be distributed on our guild in any way shape or form. That means, you cannot direct people to them. You cannot post them in picture post. You cannot beg people for links to them. They are not allowed.
Our policy will not change just because you feel that it's ok to pirate and you have the right to do so. No, you really don't and we're tired of hearing you whine about it. If you find this policy disagreeable, well, that's just too bad. Consider this the last word on this issue. |

Kashira Ka04 So, Mistress Paco, I just wondering what inspired you to start this guild and the actual date it started. xd I'm just a curious person.
Well I had just started Gaia and I didn't have much to do =O and some how I found out that my IRL friend, who's quite younger than me and way into slash/yaoi (before I met her, which is amazing, I converted so many young minds...but hers was already tained)..anyways, Rachie-Poo. She originally started this guild 3 years ago but about 1 1/2 years ago it was shut down because it was allowed to become a breeding ground for people looking for dates/cyber, porn, and other things.
So I decided to make it to keep myself busy, and also because I always love a challenge. (I use to own the website called www.gotyaoi.com, I'm only linking to it since it's nonoperational now so XD) and as far as the actual date...I'd have to check the earlyest post date in the guild but I'd guess in december some time. |

And the reason you've given is more than good enough. :3 I can't say I agree with your views on scanlations and piracy, but it's not my guild so I can't make that call, and I don't want to turn this thread into a big debate.
I hadn't even considered the fact that the URLs of sites that scanlate graphic yaoi are printed even on their lighter works, and that in itself is an excellent reason because most sites I've seen have got at least one yaoi somewhere.
Once again, I'm sorry if I seemed like I was being confrontational or trying to challenge your rules, because I wasn't. Gaia has its base rules, and any guild can get as much stricter as they like. I'm fine just a little bummed, had to hide the fact I'm gay from friends when a hot gay guy asked if I was gay, had to say no. But oh well.
Um my favortie parts would have to be the Picture post and Rp, I haven't been in the RP in awhile due to finals coming up and all. Ugh lame. I love to see the new pics and slash threads of stuff I nevet thought I would see. Awesome guild! heart
