This is my FIRST topic post ever. *clap clap for vanessa*

Okay here is what I think:

Christmas, what is the point of celebrating? Is it being with your family and spending time together? Or is it celebrating the birth of Jesus? Or is it the presents?
I think right now that Christmas is getting too far ahead of us. I think everyone has lost the true meaning of Christmas. Calling in x-mas for one, you're leaving out the important word, Christ.
Whenever you think of Christmas, what do you think of? Is it presents and decorations and Santa Claus or St. Nicholas or do you think of it as spending time with others and celebrating the birth of Jesus?
But then again, most families I know, celebrate just for the fun of it. I'm not saying this is bad because my own family does it too. sweatdrop But I just posted this to see what others thought of the true meaning of Christmas in this generation and century compared to earliar generations.

The main thing about Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ. BIG HUGE NOTE THAT I NEVER REALLY FIGURED OUT TIL A YEAR AGO!~ :
We don't really celebrate it on the 24th because that's the day Jesus was born. Noooobody knows when Jesus was born. So, back in ancient Rome, (I think,) they decided to put it on the 24th because it was the day of a holiday for the other dominant religions.

The reason why people think it's about being with family is because of the birth of Jesus. Without God/Jesus we wouldn't be here, so let's enjoy God's presents / humans.

If you don't celebrate Christmas for the above reasons then you must be one of the following: Celebrating it just for fun, I like Presents, School gave me two weeks off What else am I supposed to do? domokun . If you celebrate the Holiday just because you like getting presents, I dislike/ look down upon you. If you celebrate it just because you like presents, then you're a WHOREibble person. I get annoyed when people just celebrate it just because they can. mad It gets on my nerves.

I agree. To me, Christmas is to celebrate birth of Jesus. For the presents part, you basically get presents all year-round. Getting cell Phons for instance, you get them when you become of age. There are also other holidays that you get presents, and sometimes for no special occasion. Presents are given to you with no cost. so when your mom buys you clothes, she bought you presents. So there's my version. ninja

I don't think I really care about the birth of Christ. Nor do I think any of my friends and families do. Everyone needs a break now and then from work and school. I think its great to have a get together and have fun. Not only do I like getting presents, I love giving presents more. I tend to donate a lot. I'm a very giving person. It's also another reason for Christmas.

Christmas may be loosing some of it's luster because of all this ridiculous commercialism, but it hasn't totally lost its meaning.

I celebrate it for the birth of Christ, since I am a Christian.

Hmm, but I kind of agree on that whole Dec. 25th thing...maybe they should relocate Jesus Day to Holy Week? sweatdrop That way, we could celebrate the birth and resurrection of Christ.

Eh, I only celebrate it because it's a holiday... and because i'm catholic?

I've already lost the spirit a few years ago, hence less presents, not caring for presents, considering it some normal day, and whatnot.

Oh well, maybe it'll get better once i have kids that actually would give a damn. lol

I celebrate Christmas because i get presents. No, i'm just kidding. whee I don't get much presents anyways. I celebrate it because it's the time my whole family comes to my grandparent's house and eat dinner together and have a blast! I don't celebrate Christmas for the birth of Christ because I don't believe in God or Jesus. I believe in Buddha.

I celebrate x mas because it's the only time i get together with my family, i mean there's very rare times when the whole family is present. There's always cousins at work so they won't be attending the dinner any ways. On the side note, i completely forgot it's Christmas. I thought Christmas was loosing it's spazz because of Consumerism? Btw. I'm Buddhist..
