So I started liking MCR February 18th of last year. I instantly fell in love with their first two albums. Soon I began to notice their growing popularity, and also the growing lack of respect for MCR fans.
When I mention MCR is my favorite band, I get put down quite a bit. Either because MCR 'sucks' or because they're mainstream. Sometimes I even get called a wannabe 12 year old goth. Nobody looks past me, except for that fact, that lingering fact over my head; I love My Chemical Romance.
I have a load of respect for everyone in this universe. There are bands out there who could use improvement on their sound, but I never confront their number one fan and tell them they suck hardcore.
No band, who is willing to put their music out there and get criticized, sucks. Not one.
And what's even worse about the whole 'MCR sucks' social deal, is that people who say that, really have no idea what they're talking about.
Let me say, I believe Gerard is the smartest man alive, no joke. Even if MCR wasn't my favorite band. I remember when they weren't, and I saw him being interviewed, I said to myself, 'I wish that guy was my big brother.' And I still say that, to this day.
The music is beautiful. The lyrics are heart wrenching and everyone can relate to at least one of their songs. And they give it their all, just because there are people who need them.
I'll bet you, if MCR wasn't on the cover of every rock magazine every month, nobody would give a s**t. People are getting sick of MCR, they're getting overplayed on the radio, on MTV, on music video channels, and I'm even getting sick to the point where I stopped watching TV and listening to the radio because of it. They're getting TOO much publicity.
There are very few TRUE-TO-HEART My Chemical Romance fans. I know some of them. I love every one of you in this guild who understands what I go through just because I'm dedicated to their music, and even those of you who just started listening, I know you feel something about them that we all feel.
Discuss: MCR bashings, express yourselves. Please be respectful!

I'm really not with you anymore
Everyone in my school regards me as the 'resident emo kid'. A lot of who I am seems to be based on my love for My Chemical Romance.
People used to give me s**t for it and they still do but it's gotten better.
There are kids who still come up to me and tell me how much they suck but there are kids who'll come up to me and say how much they love them
[I have an MCR messanger bag so everyone pretty much knows I'm a fan just by glancing at me].
I think the main thing is that you have to be true to your love of the band.
You can't let people get you down. There will always be people ready to tell you how awful they think they are and it may get you down but you have to move past it. MCR themselves rise above it everyday and they expect their fans to do the same.

I loved MCR since bullets because they weren't like other bands who would say "Your a crazy b***h" or "You broke my heart"

I get put down too because MCR apparently suck. I just let it go through one ear and out the other. I don't care what other people think, as long as I know I love them with all my heart, that's what matters. Everyone has their own opinion about something, but I hate the way people say MCR suck when they haven't even listened to them before.
I agree that there is hardly any true to heart fans left. I wish there was, a lot of people I know has stopped liking them because they are becoming very mainstream. I mean, that's stupid. You shouldn't go off your favourite band because of such a stupid reason. That isn't being a true to heart fan. Then there is all these teenies liking the band because of Gerard. Or Gerald as some people know him as. rolleyes
But anyway, just ignore the bad comments. After all, you are a great fan, of one of the best bands on the planet. In my opinion, the BEST.

Music is a personal thing.
Stay true to a sound that you truly connect with.
When it comes down to it, the feelings of others cannot change what you truly feel is right.
Popularity used to bother me with My Chemical Romance, But then I realized that it changed nothing about their music it self. MCRs music was still teh same amazing thing that I learned to trust in and love. Something that no one could take away from me because the music was practically flowing through my blood.
Don't let it bother you. MCR will get more and more popular... but always remember that it is the music that counts.
It is the music that is what you always can hold onto.

Thats some harsh stuff. Some people care nothing for the feelings of others, but you just have to keep going and not let anyone bring you down.
Every one in my school knows I like My Chemical Romance, but they have never told me that they suck... well one person did but that ended when i found him in a room listning to a My Chemical Romance CD! Anyways at my school I tend to be a trend setter for some odd reason. what ever i like everyone else starts likeing. From my looks no one would ever think I like My Chemical Romance I own about what 3 black shirts....

The thing of it is, there's ALWAYS going to be that one
person who hates your band. That's just life. The problem with MCR is that
there are millions of fans out there and for every fan, there are about 2 haters. It's the true fans that stick with the music no matter what.

As soon as I mention that I'm a fan of MCR I get told exactly the same thing. But it's what you like not them. So just tell them to get over themselfs and listen to their synthetic freaks who can't sing by themselfs and have to have someone else singing with them, for example Chris Brown and Bow Wow. (Wow! I know some hip hop artists!! ...That's scary...).
I don't fly under one single banner eg. Emo, when it comes to steriotypes either and that gets people calling me a poser. Okay? Yeah? So what I dress a mix of indie, emo and a little bit of my own flare? I want to be me and not be a sheep. THINK OFF CENTRE PEOPLE!
I listen to MCR, PATD, Breaking Benjamin, The Rabble, The Kooks and many, many more bands I don't let what other people think of them effect me because peer-pressure is a nasty thing that shouldn't be bowed down to. So hold your head up high be proud of yourself and don't even THINK about trying to conform to their candyfloss and lemonade world! I know I'm not going to be doing that anytime soon I mean... who would want to change themselfs so that they fit in?

I won't lie so here goes:
I'm not a "Reject" or "Emo" or whatever some MCR fans are labelled as. In fact I'm quite popular, I belong in quite a few cliques in school if cliques truely exists and I have many good friends. I dress artsy (but I go to an art high school so it's normal even cool, otherwise I may be labelled as a "reject").
When I tell people I'm an MCR fan, they don't call me any names because, well I'm a very respected student at my school.
I know what your thinking "This girl is probably a teeny-bopper who wants to ******** Gerard Way." NOT TRUE!
BUT let me tell you what's worse than being called names for liking MCR. IT's when people don't take you seriously for something that you love. It's like living in a bright light where you have no shadow, no other dimension and thus people can only see exterior but can never reach in for the interior.
I'm the only MCR fan I know of in my school who's not a teeny bopper, who loves and respect them for their art. In fact I think I'm the only MCR fan in the entire school of over two thousand students. And that people is worse than being called names.

Those with us, and those against us.
We'll always have those cheering us on, and those encouraging
us to fail.
Yes, it can be very frustrating and very hurtful to see some of
the things people have to say about MCR.
All that I can say is this, and I know it sounds
a bit harsh, but its the only thing you can really live by...:
Get used to it.
Just have pride in yourself and your beleifs, no matter what anyone says.
I know how much it blows to be dissed, or something you like to be dissed.
I basically taught myself to stand up for myself. If someone calls you a
"Wannabe Goth" for liking a band, just smile. Smile and say something simple, like "Thanks."
You can't let people get to you so easily, or you'll never survive in the world.
I HATE to see people insulting My Chemcial Romance as cruely as they do.
It just tears me apart how rude people can be.
But hey...it wouldn't be normal if everyone got along.
All people in the world liking MCR would break the whole balance.
No matter what, we need people against us to survive. To teach us
hos to stick up for ourselves.
Think about it, wouldn't it be actually irritating if no one insulted MCR?
Things would be so dull, there would be nothing to stick up for.
I know how angered you must all feel by some of the haters,
but as I see it...don't. Just thank them for being who they are.
No matter how many people are against you, you'll always have
others with you, to support you and cheer you on.
Just don't let people tear you down.
You have your opinions, and people have theirs,
opinions never make you a bad person.
