Personally, I think Godsmack rocks. But I've noticed that a lot of people seem to dislike them. My hypothesis is that they're too oldskool for the nu-metal kids, not oldskool enough for the thrashmetalers, and too different for everybody else.
Am I way off?

They're decent.
I think that most people dislike them because much of what they do sounds alike.

I like their older stuff. "Serenity" and "Voodoo" are both up there on my list really. I enjoy how deep the voice of their main vocalist is, and how the songs tend to draw you in.
I'm not a big fan of the new stuff they have going on the radio though. It just feels a bit forced like they were trying to grow a larger fanbase by doing more generic sounding music instead of the unique and intriguing melodies that I first enjoyed.

The one thing about the band that I can, however, note that I have a distaste for is the vocals. Something about the lead singer's voice I just really dislike & find unpleasent to listen to. I also really don't like the band's name, but that's somewhat less important.
By the way, nice signature! (I'm The Girl With The Kickass Boots... in "real life", that is) smile

I find this quite interesting, since the vocals it one of the main things my girfriend has said she doesn't like about them, as well as one of the main things I do like about them. I like how he offsets his deep monotone with occasional gurnts and growls, but that's just my opinion. (btw, my signature comes from a thread I posted in the GD some time ago; it was a joke based on a short-lived trend of kids posting about how awesome their chucks and vans were. So I made a thread about how much more awesome my motorcycle boots were, and later that week some random person was like "hey, you're the guy with the kickass boots, arent you".)

I like some of their songs. But those few songs that I like are the ones that actually stand out. The rest of their stuff all sounds the same to me.

I am a fan of Godsmack's older music. I'd say my favorites would be "Serenity", "Voodoo", "Stand Alone", and "Realine". Other than that, their other songs aren't really much to listen to in my opinion.
