It seems as though every goth I meet is a stereotyped, why is that? How can you even tell if they're imitating?

Everyone is a stereotype whether they are goth or not. In addition: "Only those close to the top are rewarded without trying. It's the way of the world. Most people have to act the roles given to them... Then again, most of them haven't noticed they're even acting." -FF Tactics People assume roles and fit into categories no matter what they do. Goth culture is not unique in this.

i dont know exactly what you mean, but the gothic stereotype around here(london, ontario, canada) isn't even real goth. you cant mention the bauhaus, siouxsie and the banshees, the sexgang children, TSOL, or anything like that and have someone pipe up and go "hey man thats totally a goth band", or "hey i've heard their stuff!" if you mention goth, people immediately jump to the conclusion that you listen to marolyn manson, like to walk around at night with crappy eye makeup, and listen to death metal all day long.

Usually, I don't go around calling myself, "goth" because putting a label on myself seems too narrow for the person I really am. My style varies from what people would see as Goth, to Punk to Emo, to Gamer, to Star Wars freak, to outaku, & etc depending on my mood that day. So, I just can't see labeling my self as one thing. So, I don't.

Well,I'm basically talking about that when I see a goth everyday, like at my school,he/she is always wearing black.He/she is a,so called, satanist. Most people believe that all goths are satanist, but that's not true.Anyone can be a satanist, but they don't have to be goth to do that.A stereotyped goth is like what everyone believes what a goth is;wears black everyday, depressed all the time, doesn't believe in god, worships satan..etc.It's ok to be a stereotyped goth, but I get pissed when people asks,"hey do you worship satan?",and crap like that.

well, i do wear almost exclusively black, though i sometimes wear red or blue underneath my long sleeved black shirt...theres some rips that are all safety pinned up and it looks pretty cool having bright red underneath. i wear a sweatband with a pentacle on it, but the pentacle itself has nothing to do with satanism, i am a pagan and i am a witch. i have had people ask me if i worship satan, because i do make alot of satan jokes and random stupid crap like growling "I WILL DEVOUR YOUR SOUL" to friends, but i just laugh at them and state my opinion that satanism is not much more valid than christianity. I am a vampire as well(yeah...joke away about that), and when people ask me if i am i typically just smirk and say "something like that", seeign as the reality of vampirism is nothing like in books and movies. people find me a bit intimidating and frightening, i wear sunglasses everywhere due to the light sensitivity that developed not long after my awakening began. I think what surprises people is that on most occasions i'm a pretty happy person. i like to laugh and make jokes(even if my laugh is kind of evil sounding...it isnt intentional really), i smirk alot, i have a bit of a swagger, and when someone gets to know me i'm generally a likeable guy, unless someone decides to show their ignorance to somethin i have knowledge on...thats when i ream them a few new assholes.

Let's see, for your sense of humorous jokes, you seem to be resistance goth, vampire goth of avoiding sunlight, maybe lolita goth for your sense of style[not really, more of a metal goth] and probably industrial goth for smirking a lot. Most of all yes I can be aware that you could be a witch for casting spells,it's a possible thing, including being an vampire{I do not joke about that}oh and I'm more of a Atheist, vampire goth[loving the taste of blood, avoid sunlight constantly, sleep during daytime]metal goth, and punk goth[I don't like comformers of the federal laws, and against the repulicans and or governors]I'm a bit peaceful, but most likely a anarchy person of not obeying any govern orders.

'Goth' to me is a style and an attitude, aren't those what people stereotype everybody by?

its very easy to understand what goth is. style meansa nothing, attitude means nothing. its a certain mindset and way of thinking coupled with a literary intelligence and comes from a musical style known as deathrock, which is basically a derivative of punk rock with some electronic and new wave influences. if one bothers to look into the history of this, which sadly, most of the morons calling themselves goths these days are far too ******** lazy to do, then it's quite easy to pick out.

That's how it is everywhere. People never conncet actual Goth music with our subculture. They always think Manson, Slipknot,Green Day,PATD!,or Evanescence.
