What do they think?
I don't know what made me think of this, but all of a sudden, I was wondering, 'I wonder how they picked the voice actors to dub Gravitation?' I mean, do companies post up little sticky notes that say, like, "Voice actor needed to play pink-haired musician shacking up with older blonde male - call for details." xDDD
And what do the voice actors themselves think?
For some reason I find this amusing.

Funny topic, but generally anime is dubbed by a company of voice actors rather than casting calls... so they basically have a meeting and discuss who would be best for which character.

::laughs:: I remember watching one of the extra's on a Spiral dvd with the voice actors doing commentary on a few episodes. It was funny listening to them joke about the anime itself, like how eyes and eyebrows can mysteriously hover over bangs and how the clothes they wear are either really cool or really horrible. That made me think the same thing, also. What do they think when they're actually saying romantic things? It must be awkward. ^^;

Lol, it'd be an interesting way to earn a living for sure. Although anime voice actors tend to be pretty bad in my opinion, maybe it's just that the translated scripts are too wooden... *shrugs*

Ah, and so brings up my amusing Gundam-related story~ heart
It was at Anime North 2005's Gundam Guys Guestslam with Trevor Devall, Scott McNeil, Sam Vincent and Matt Hill - when suprise surpise, Sam brought up sarcastically how much yaoi was littered around in Gundam Seed.
He proceeded to point out that Athrun had to constantly say Kira's name all lusty, and proceeded to show us what he meant. This caused several people (including myself) to melt off their chairs.
After, Matt was like "And then it panels to Kira and he's going "ATHRUUUN..." all lusty like."
xD I love eet.

Seriously though, give the English VAs more credit for their work. =3 Once you meet them, you'll know what I mean.

The english Gravitation voices all sounded too much alike to me. Shuichi's voice is too deep.

Well, this isn't dubbed but, at Anime Expo 2005 Tomakazu Seki (the voice of Shuichi in Gravitation) said that it was awkward playing that role because "of course" he's not gay... ^^

What I wonder, mainly, is how many times they have to do the scene untill it 'sounds right'. I bet the voice directors just want to hear it over again sometimes, and are literally laughing their asses off in the other room :'D
... Okay, now I want to be a yaoi anime voice director o.o that'd be fun, yeah.

Interesting question! Surely its their job to play different characters, so they shouldnt complain about playing gay characters! I read an interview with the Japanese voice actor of Hijikata from the anime Peacemaker, and i found it interesting that although the show and manga only hints at BL he said that he thought that the relationship between Hijikata and Okita was quite romantic.
