I heard ppl say that Mcr changed their name to the black parade but i think its just the new cd name...are they right or am i?

Okay, think of the CD Mechanical Animals (I'm guessing this will be closer to your time than Bowie).
On it, Marilyn Manson plays a character in a band called Omega and the mechanical animals.
The band Omega and the Mechanical Animals is not a real band, but it's part of the story being told.
The Black Parade is part of the story.
I'm rather certin this was explained in a interview of My Chemical Romance.
(I know this is a half assed explanation, but bare with me)

Yeah, The Black Parade is the name of their new cd, but since the new cd sounds different from anything they've ever done it was like they had created a new band all together The Black Parade is also their alter ego. So to them it's like they are two bands in one now. But their official name is and always will be My Chemical Romance.

The Black Parade is their alter ego because they needed to be different for the new CD, for the story being told. It's not like when Prince changed his name to a symbol or anything crazy.

Gerard would never change the name... Besides Mikey who came up with the band name wouldn't have it.. But its just for this cd... they needed a change.
