1) They're an ex-smoker, so it's hardly an issue anymore, is it?
2) Smokers aren't bad people. They're also only exercising their rights. As long as they don't smoke around you if you don't want them to, it's not your problem.
3) It's a great friendship if that's the sort of thing that will kill it.
