Japanese title, Dousaibou Seibutsu
It sounds like a science project...
Same Cell Organism is a collection of short stories. The first story, which is the same title as the book itself, focuses on two young boys: Yokata and Nakagawa. Yokota is an extrovert, and will always give his best effort regardless of what it is he's trying to do. Nakagawa is a shy, reserved person who is very meticulous about when and where he shows his emotions. And even when he does express himself, he's usually rather embarrased.
This story focuses on the two of them: How they became friends and eventually fell in love. The basis of thier personalities and thier feelings of each other can be summarized much like Nakagawa's thoughts in one segment of the story:
"I feel the same... but I quietly think it and you openly express it. That's where we slightly differ. In how we care for each other..."
There are three chapters in the book that focuses on Same Cell Organism.
The premise may sound cliche in the way that I describe it, but I found Same Cell Organism to be a wonderful story. The two of them fall away from the uke-seme stereotypes, and the way they interact is absolutely adorable. Even though thier appearances are brief, you grow a fondness for the characters for the little time they're introduced.
The second story is Letter in the Attic. It's based around two boys: one who skips class because he doesn't like to do well in school (Kana), and the other who simply doesn't like being in crowded classrooms and skips to avoid it all. (Fuji) Kana meets Fuji when he tries to take refuge in the attic of an abandoned building in the school campus, though he didn't realize that was Fuji's private hangout. Eventually, the two agree to use that place together and become friends.
This story, I think, was my personal favorite. I'm a sucker for poignant, deep stories and beautiful art, neither of which is this book lacking. However, I found this story to shine the most. What Same Cell Organism had in cuteness and fluff, Letter in the Attic has in beauty and has a feeling of what can only be described as touching.
The third story, while probably my least favorite in the book, is not bad. It just doesn't appeal to me because of the whole "angel to earth" premise.
The story focuses around an angel who comes to earth to watch over a young boy without a family named Sakaki. The boy, when he was little, wished to be a princess because he knew that when you were a princess, a prince always resuced you. It was his way of expressing his loneliness of not having any family.
The art in this story is very nice, though I'm not very fond of Sakaki's character design. Guys with such long hair never appealed to me, though I do give the artist credit for managing to make him have that hairstyle without making him seem that effeminate.
The fourth story is very sweet, though it falls under the "boy next door who became more than that" category. Midori, who is a third-year college student training to be a kindergarten teacher, is a sort if "Older brother" figure to Sora, a sixteen year old boy who lives alone in the same apartment complex. Sora, however, is in love with Midori, and is frustrated at the fact that Midori seems to merely think of him as a child.
The entire book has lovely art: Unrefined but not sketchy, and pretty without being too shoujo. (Although the artist does emphasize eyelashes a bit.) There's not much "action," to put it delicately, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a story best described as heartwarming, and I would highly recommend it.

Read it just the other day! The stories were very adorable, but I wasn't a big fan of the art work. I like a more shoujo drawn yaoi, whereas I found this style a bit rough.
I bought the manga anyway though biggrin It was VERY cute ^_^
