Ok, so I know the whole why do ppl like yaoi question has been done before but it still stumps me.

Why? And I refuse to believe that it's just hot. Hotness may be part of the reason, but there has to be more, right? Of course, I may be wrong and hotness is just all there is.

Anyways, that isn't my point. (I don't really have any; just trying to figure something out)

Yaoi and feminism. Is there such a thing. I think there is. They must be connected even if minutely.
The way a person views a pairing or sees a pairing affects...something. Excuse my vagueness, I'm tired xp

Oh, and yaoi vs. gays. Gays are offended by horny females' fantasies that are in no way realistic to them.

Can yaoi be good for ppl? Like porn it can help younguns deal with sex.
I'm ambivalent here. There's pairing types I like and types I don't.
Stereotypical seme/uke pairings bore me. They follow the rules set out by society and the roles and actions are filled out...like rosters. Fine with some if well written/drawn/animated/etc.
I prefer the ones where roles are more ambiguous. But the thing is, that's just my taste...unless everyone likes it too (by like, I don't mean just preference but also having the ability to enjoy it.) It makes yaoi so much more interesting in terms of power, psychology, etc.

It has been said that there is no possible way for women to gain true equality since ppl will constantly compare any ideas with what we have now and...well, basically, it's too late and now impossible and maybe incomprehensible (i'm paraphrasing this really badly.) But with the yaoi pairing, do women fix themselves into the males. If with ambiguous roles...which one. Does it even matter? Does it even happen?
Cause if it does, it would flush this theory down the toilet...I think. I mean, would it be proof right here that sexual equality is comprehensible? That is, only if all the other stuff mentioned is true.

Or would this be more appropriate with yuri?

I don't know, I've been wondering these things for a long time and haven't come up with an answer yet. Need help. and more ppl's opinion on this, I think, the better. On anything relating to above. Anything at all.
If you can't think of anything, then maybe start with why you like yaoi...besides the hotness factor, the hotness is a given.

Interesting thoughts...

For me the main reasons have always been:

- As a woman there is no way I'm ever gonna experience a male/male homosexual relationship first hand (even if you undergo surgery to become a female to male transexual you're still a female underneath it all and have been socialised as such); so there's the attraction of all good literature. You're being invited to put yourself in a situation you've never experienced. When I'm reading straight romance I keep thinking stuff like "I wouldn't forgive him for that!" or "I so wouldn't do that" - but when it's two men you've got enough distance 'cos anything that jars you can justify with "well, who knows how a guy would react to that..." Lol.
Because of that I tend to find slash better escapist reading, which is what I'm looking for in fiction.

Yaoi and feminism and role portrayal:

Personally I prefer slash with the traditional "strong and weak" partnership; one must be emotionally more sensitive. I think it's for identification purposes - you get one guy with some typically female attributes (not those attributes) that you can identify with (although as I said before, with enough distance to not over-analyse their actions too much) and the other gets to be all "men are from Mars". (emotionally distant, etc)
But then I've never been much of a feminist and mostly adhere to traditional gender stereotypes anyway... which may well affect my choice of porny online fiction... smile

Just some thoughts...

Oh, and yaoi vs. gays. Gays are offended by horny females' fantasies that are in no way realistic to them.

I can't count the number of times I've had to explain that to girls.

But isn't it the same, the other way around? Men watch Girls Gone Wild and actually believe that lesbians are really like that. So far, I've never met a single real lesbian who acted like that. So if yaoi is connected to feminism, then yuri would be connected to masculinism? (is masculinism even a word? X_x)

I don't think I could be offended by it, though. It's just the whole gender gap. Straight women understand gay men in the same way that straight men understand lesbians. Straight women think that just because they like the same sex as gay men, then they automatically understand the way the relationship must work, and vice versa...

Not that it's true for everyone! Not by a long shot xp

I can't seem to grasp what you are saying, but I agree with what I can undrstand.

I think the reason why females perfer yaoi is because it is something they cannot grasp. When a girl meets a gay guy, she normally winds up 'falling for him' because she cannot have him. Things that cannot be touched on become more desirable.

I like yaoi because it's not threatening. Those are two guys getting it on, and so I am not involved in anyway. It's sexy as hell, but I can enjoy it completely as a third person watching from a distance; no girls there to see myself in, nobody to idenitify with, which makes the sexiness more enjoyable to me. (I have Issues around kissing and stuff - it completely grosses me out - so ...)
