It seems that now a day we live in a world that is so focused on how one looks. The fashion industry is booming, and everywhere you look there is a reality show about making yourself look better. Now i'm all for the getting in shape, but do we really need to go to such extremes to make ourselfs appealing to the opposite, or same gender?
If you look in a magazine, you find pictures of men that are ripped, with a six pack and arms that look as if they could crush you in an instant. And while some people do look for such perfection and completion in the human body, the peopel that do usually have the same image for themselves.
Personally, I think i've fallen for some of the strangest looking guys around. Just due to the love of anime, it seems that i've accepted the looks that have bordered on androgynous. But there are many other view points out there.
Now do the common people truly believe that you have to be perfect to be sexy?

It's pretty much impossible to be perfect since humans are flawed by nature. Perfection is so many different things that you could almost say it's nothing at all.
But laying aside such weird thoughts, I've pretty much rejected the media's ideal forms of beauty which they try to shove down our throats. Beauty and sexy comes in so many different shapes, sizes, colors, it's simply amazing. Since everybody has different tastes, their ideals are going to be different and guess what? Most people's ideals are not these "perfect" images that are tossed out at us.
Besides, in the end, the looks are pretty superficial, shouldn't we be looking a little deeper?

I dont nesecarily think sexy comes from looks. I mean dont get me wrong, there are some features that makes certain people go wild, but to me, the most sexy thing is a guy/girl with confidence. Who is happy with there inner beauty, and their outer flaws.

Physical beauty is only skin deep. There's so much more to like about a person besides their outer appearance. The media's ideal form of beauty will be everchanging so why bother accepting what they show you to be their model of how sexy should look? Go with what you like.

I don't normally call a person 'sexy', if I have only seen a picture or seen them physically. I can think maybe they're hot, or goodlooking, but in my books a person who is 'sexy' depends on the guys with persoanlities who appeal to me. Being goodlooking is just a bonus in my books.

Well magazines present only the most socially acceptable ideal, don't they? It's really down to the individual on what they believe is actually "sexy," and whether that depends more heavily on looks or personality or other things. o.o;

I find that appearance is STRONGLY affected by personality. This is proven through my likings:
Orlando Bloom: Ugly Will Turner: Kinda pretty, but a total eunuch Legolas: teh shmex
----
Actors are stuck-up 50% of the time, and I don't really like Orli as a person, Will Turner was pretty because he was a pirate (I love pirates) but he himself was a total girl, and Legolas was a blonde elf archer, so I loved him.
----
My departing words are truely epitomizing my interests
Sasuke and Neji are considered two of the hottest, and more loved guys of the Naruto world. Don't get me wrong, I love them. I love Itachi more, still understandable, right?
Wanna know who ties with Itachi for #1 on the Sexiest Ninja List for moi?
Hoshigaki Kisame

I mostly agree with you, but I think the person can't be so bad looking that I would have to stick a paper bag over there head. So they have to be cute in my eyes, and cute in my eyes tends to be who everyone esle thinks is ugly.

I think if they have a lot of the same interests as me, it'd be better than being with someone who was just amazingly sexy.
I don't even know what sexy MEANS anymore... the entertainment industry changes it's opinion of sexy every few weeks and ever so slightly, so I just gave up, turned off E! and focused more on personalities heart
...as long as they don't look like the Michelin Man on a Rogaine overdose, I don't really care xp

I agree with what most people are saying. I don't moon over movie stars and stuff that often. One exception is Miyavi. I find him ubert hot. But aslo cuz he's funny, and really talanted, and a major dork. Plus for me who is 6'1" finding a good looking Japanese guy who is taller than me is a very happy thing. ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVOM-7qQxVI&mode=related&search=Guys don't have to have big muscles or have beach blonde wavy hair, or be all tough to be attractive. They can wear nerd glasses and have brown hair and freckles and babble on about science. I honestly find that much more attractive. heart

I'm actually not all that attracted to the generic model type in magazines and stuff sweatdrop As far as looks go, I prefer guys that are bit more slender, but with just a little muscle so they're not just skin and bones...and maybe a bit androgynous? Too much anime and video games for me, I guess. XP But yeah, personality is what counts the most. Being sexy is just an added bonus! 3nodding

I have a very strict view of personal attraction that I try to hold myself to... The appearance of others is barely negligable behind their attitudes towards the true contents of life and behind having similar beliefs. As far as I know, nobody on earth looks like what I want to become; ash grey hair, slight goatee and soul patch, groomed moustache, and always somewhere caught between slender and well-built. So far I have to work on the facial hair a bit more, start working out, and find a good dye for my hair... Yeah.

I really do think that personality has a lot to do with how sexy someone is. It obviously varies from person to person, but think about this.
A lot of the images in magazines present models (male or female) with similar expressions and poses. Some of the more general descriptors you could apply are "confident" and "inviting". A lot of times, tese people look like they could really give you a good time...whether you're just hanging out or doing something more intimate. XD
Personally, I find that while physical attractiveness is a major contribution to degree of "sexy", character is what really seals it off. As Katastrophic_Kate was saying, I am a major fan of Miyavi because of his personality. And his physical beauty. But if he had only the body and face, as Gackt does in my opinion (don't hurt me, people, I love Gackt, but I love Miyavi more >__<), I wouldn't find him quite as appealing.

Like others have said, beauty is arbitrary. I am very much turned on by braids and dreadlocks, most of my friends aren't. Heck, I was watching an episode of SGA today and fell madly in love with a Wraith and they don't look remotely human. Why? The way he carried himself, the tone of his voice, and so on.
Wasn’t there ever someone you didn’t think was very attractive when you first met them, but as you got to know them you thought they cuter? And I mean physically too. It’s almost like their personality made them more attractive (not gorgeous now, but nicer to look at). So yeah, no matter what people say... there is no standard beauty. There lots of things that are involved.
However, I do tend to believe that a good majority of people like the same kinds of features or at the very least learn to like them. Hence why we have so many people striving for the starving, blond haired, blue eyed model look.
