Before it became popular...

So how many of you were fans before yaoi became more and more popular? Basically that's being a fan for about 4 or more years (I just took a random guess at the year number!)

Seriously, I remember a time when yaoi was still hush hush. If you were a fan, you wouldn't even mention it in fear of getting mobbed by het fans (now some of it's vice versa! muahaha) There was a time when yaoi fandom was few and it took a long time to find some decent yaoi fanworks online.

So if you were a fan from a looong time ago, let's reminisce the old days before Gravitation! (To be honest, I became a fan when the Graviatation manga was coming out in the states. So if I sounded like an old, experienced yaoi fan, I'm really not *that* old and experienced... Sure, I liked it before it became *really really* popular, but it's not like I liked it in 1995. I just wanted to see some of the comments this post will receive!)

I'm not sure how long I've been a fan...it was well over 2 years ago at the least for me anyway...I never kept track. x_x; I really only paid attention to that liking of mine when I got a few other of my friends comfortable with it. For the longest time, it was just a "I like this, but I'm afraid to say something" thing for me. I'm too shy for my own good. sweatdrop

Way more than five years! xd I've been a fan of yaoi even before anime came into my life to corrupt me further. I always enjoyed tormenting a guy friend of mine with it in high school... wait, nothing's changed!

I started liking it when I was in (I think) 10th grade, so that was around 2000-01... It all started with Gundam Wing, and 3x4 goodness. biggrin So that means... Wow, 5 or 6 years? Dude, I didn't realise it had been that long. XD Awsome.

I started my journey into yaoi way back in 1999 and I've never looked back. I did get distracted by slash for a while, but it's still manly lovin, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned whee

I've been an anime/manga fan for five years. I was introduced to it in fourth grade, and loved it ever since.

I've been a fan of yaoi for three years. I'm in 9th grade now, so basically I became one in sixth grade. I think I was introduced to it in late fifth grade.

I liked anime since Sailor Moon and Pokemon (but the best was Zoids and Digimon) And that was when I was six. But with yaoi it been about two or three years.

I've been a yaoi fan for about 4-5 years.
I never said anything untill I became a b***h, then I say it all the time ^^ I was never at teh old guild, I had some "problems" with gaia at first...
I'm a pretty bad fan too @.@ I cant watch/play/read anything with out finding a yaoi pairing in it.

I've been an anime fan since the middle of High School, so thats *thinks* 7 years now. Sadly, though, i've only been into Yaoi for about a year, when I read Gravitation for the first time. (That got me hooked, and I bought more different ones).

I only got into anime 2-3 years ago, I got into fanfiction almost as soon as I got into anime, and then loving yaoi happened shortly after that when I discovered slash fanfics. So sadly, I'm a pretty new fan.

I found the online yaoi stuff a looong time ago now, about 6 or 7 years ago (I was about 11).

For me the weirdest thing is how the proper term for light stuff is now "Boy's Love" which was totally unheard of when I first got into it (unless you were giving a literal translation of shounen-ai). Every time I see "BL" it makes me feel old!!! Lol. And what happened to the "lemon/lime" porn ratings? - I've been immersed in slash for a while...

But I totally know what you mean about keeping it hush hush. I don't know whether it's the fandom in general that's become more accepting - or if it's that I've become more comfortable with myself. Either way it used to seem people were a lot more hostile towards it than they are now.

Yeah, now that you meantion it, you don't see the terms lemon/lime to describe smutty fics anymore... Or at least, not as often.

I remember how me and my friends used to joke about how we should make a drink called Lemon Yaoi. XD
