I have been getting frustrated with the number of people in my guilds who just don't grasp satire.

An example of this was a mock comic strip that was meant to be christians telling people to shoot goths- despite the fact that the characters pray to TUPAC at one point, there were endless responses to this post about how shocking it was etc. At first I thought- 'Dear Lord. I'm in a guild of idiots.' But I'm pretty sure now I've calmed down that it's a culture thing. They didn't get the sarcasm, because its just not typically used in their humour.
please tell me I'm right eek

Sarcasm is what we do best. Any foreigner that says it is the lowest form of wit has neither attempted to grasp its glorious undertones nor will ever suceed in mastering its subtle, hilarious ways. 3nodding

Sarcasm isn't all that good. It's satire and irony that we excel at.

From what I remember, sarcasm is by definition saying "Nah, really?" in a sarcastic manner.
What we often refer to as sarcasm is some other form of wit.

I might've been told incorrectly about that.

Satire is fantastic, as is irony.
By that I don't mean American irony (which tends to just be a word used to describe a funny coincidence) but I mean the dictionary definition of it:
Saying something completely to the opposite of what we mean. kind of like what we tend to think sarcasm is.

Sarcasm is glorious, unless you use it too simplistically. It is like enjambement...not overly impressive unless there is a line to not end

Um, no. I've missed this entirely! What?

The BBC wishes to apologise for the showing of a program pertaining to the Miner's Strike in the 1980s. We realise that the broadcast of such programs so close to a time when a general election may or may not be in the near or distant future may or may not have implications on the outcome. The BBC feels deep regret that it showed this program, and will, in the future, refrain from showing programs that may be of public interest, that may or may not influence events that may or may not be being eagerly anticipated. Coming up nex, Busted V Mc Fly
