Wash and hull the strawberries; then measure. Place a layer of berries in a kettle, then a layer of sugar until all ingredients are used. Let stand over night or until the sugar dissolves. I was going to suggest jams! My fiance's mother and I jam all the raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries that grow on her property every summer. Its a lot of work, but, man, homemade jam is yummy!
If you go this route, you may need to buy some pectin to add. Pectin is a thing that naturally occurs in fruits, it makes jams and pie fillings gel, but sometimes fruit doesn't have enough at the stage of ripeness that you have it in. I think if you buy Bell brand jars, they include a packet about how much pectin to add to different fruits for jams.
