I'm so sick of people who are closeminded about music.

Just tonight I send a youtube video to my one friend of an E Nomine video. And the conversation went thus:

Him: I'd get it if it were in English
Me: It doesn't matter, it's a good song.
Him: Not my cup of tea. It reminds me of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Me: ..........
Him: What?
Me: I see absolutely no correlation.
Him: Nevermind.

Basic end of conversation right there.

Basically, there are so many people out there who refuse to listen to a band simply because they don't speak the language. They sacrifice any possible merit to the composition and sound for language. It's so very sad. And very annoying too.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I get it a lot and I just really wish people would realise that there's so much more to music than merely understanding the words. I probably could explode right now over it. But I'll contain myself because it's not worth it. So, you all can share. while we're at it, recommend good foreign bands for the cause. ^_^

My friends don't get my interest in jrock. They don't like not being able to understand what is being said, but if it's a problem you can always find an english translation. Music that has a nice overall feel is a nice thing even if you can't understand the lyrics right away. And most of the time it's not too hard to grasp the general concept of the music.

I am not a fan of jrock, but I can understand why people listen to it, and I will listen to it from time to time...

I am all for foreign music, I don't care if I don't understand what is being said, if it sounds good, I like it.

-sigh- I've run into some people who don't like music they don't understand. Mainly in this year's geometry class....I listen a lot of German metal and stuff like that, and people always wonder what I lsten to since I "dress in black to much"......and they wont even bother to listen after they hear the lyrics.
I don't get why people are so close minded...One of my life goals is to become fluent in at least 5 languages.
I guess rap has ruined to many lives.

Foreign music is just like any other. Some will suck, some will not. My problem with it is that it is hard to come by. Some times it is just too much a hassle to try to get into bands from other countries.

And then there is Mexican music. That stuff needs to burn.

I got the same reaction from my friends when I played E Nomine xd . They always ask me why I bother listening to music in another language, usually German or French, and I say that it is really good music. But if it isn't in English, they don't want to hear it... I try to explain that even if they don't know what they are saying, one can still get the artist's emotions from the vocals and instrumentals in the song. Oh well, they are being close minded and really don't know what they are missing out on.

My problem is that I'll hear a song I like and, foreign or not, I'll forget to find out the band. I love foreign music, and I hate finding the English translations, because figuring out what they're saying is half the fun. Plus I think they lose something in the translation. I enjoy Rammstein, bbut they're the only foreign band I know by name...I think....unless you count ABBA, which my mother listens to all the time. Not bad actually. Could anyone give me the names of some good foreign bands? Maybe I'll be able to rediscover some of those songs I heard....

To me, a song is a song no matter what language it's in, I tried to get some people to even consider listening to a song in a differnt language but they flat out refused because they wouldn't understand it. Coming from people that thought that Ugly by Christina Aguilera was "depressing"~. Morons.

The only problem I forsee is finding a band that you love, and, not knowing what they're singing about find out that they're some right-wing fascist group that hate pretty much everyone. Not something you really want to happen. (luckily those bands suck, it seems you can't be a bigot and be good at writing songs rofl )

~ not something I listen to but it shows how stupid they are about music.
