George R.R. Martin....
I've read his works and am enthralled until I finish each
I've read some, he's good but not amazing
I've heard about him, haven't read any
  Eh, he's a horrible writer
  Who is he?

It's a fairly good series. I haven't read the newest one yet, because I don't like the series enough to buy the hardcover version of it, but I'll get it when it comes out in paperback. Maybe part of the reason that it's not so great to me is because I was expecting it to be better than it was, just from what people were saying about it. Maybe it's just my personal tastes, but I much prefer Tamora Pierce for medieval-type fantasy, and modern fantasy over medieval.

Either way, I like Arya the best. I'm starting to like Sanza and... goddamn, what was his name? The Kingslayer. Jaime! That's it. Why do I remember the hard names, but not the easy ones? I rather like Tyrion, too. I liked Robb and Jon in the beginning, but started to dislike them later on in the series. Particularly Robb. He just got annoying in the second or third book. I like Bran, though. Bran's another favorite. The youngest one, what's-his-name, again I don't remember the name, Shaggydog's master, he's a bit annoying, though I can let that go, since he's like three. Sanza's aunt was annoying, as was her little son. Man, but I hated that little six-year-old. Spoiled rotten. I think he's my least favorite character in the entire series. Seriously. Hm.... I'd say more, but I think Iv'e babbled enough for right now. n.n"

I'm waiting for a paperback of Feast for Crows as well. though i fear it a bit since in the that I know he's going to write from the view of , argh what's the queens name? Now I'm forgetting names heh, but you know hwo I mean, Jaime's sister/lover. Aye I like Jaime alot, especially after we got to see his view, almost feel sorry for him. And Tyrion is a trip on his own. I too was getting annoyed with Robb until him and everyone else in the castle got slaughtered... Ah well. But it certainly was nice to have Jaime's son die finally, damn little brat.

Cersei, wasn't it? I can spell it, but I can't for the life of me pronounce it. I've gone through like 3 pornunciations so far, and I don't know which is right. Yeah, Joffrey was an annoying little jackass. But, really, no one deserves to die that way. Hopefully Tommen will be better than he was.

I didn't even like Robb after or during the castle sluaghter. Really, he was being waaay too conceited and full of himself from the time he becamse King in the North. Youd think he'd be more down-to-earth, the way his father raised him to be. Speaking of Eddard, I liked him. Why did Joffrey kill him?! Grr.

I've been sticking with "Ser-say" but that's just me heh. I knew Joffrey was gonna be murdered pretty early on, no one, king or not, gets away with being that much of a little bugger for too long, and considering he killed Eddard against even his mother's will, ah well.

And Robb, while the eldest of the "true bloods" lets call them, was not as much like Eddard nearly as much as John. Robb has the blood of Catelyn, and you have to notice how almost all of the men in her family are stubborn and arrogant. Where as John comes from the blood of the North, where the very practice of execution is a king must swing the blade with his own hand, and so one. Though as is true even in reality, being respectable and honest only gets you killed faster, and so Eddard is dead and the King Robert. Tyrion has only survived through playing his enemies games and better.

Catelyn as well went the way of respect, bringing her and her son, and their retainers, deaths. Though at the end of the third book she apparently has come back from the dead, at first I thought it was the work of this new "God of Light" who brought the red priest back to life so many times in the countryside. But I'm starting to think it's the work of the old gods. Remember how she made sure they were served some food and drinks, making them house guests under the old traditions.

I think it's just pure human luck and the insane ability people have to survive that Catelyn's still alive, not through the work of any god. THen again, I'm more willing to think that than I am to think that a god deigned to stick his hand into the mortal world and mess with things. That "God of Light" is probably just a bunch of sorcerers who don't want to be persecuted, so they claim it's the works of a new god. I will admit that I don't much like the premise behind that religion. And the burning heart banner? Puh-lease. Come up with something more interesting for a banner, and I may be a bit more interested in it. (Yes, I do judge by these things, especially when reading.) But really, I'd much rather pray at the base of a tree than in front of a fire. It's less destructive. And, for the love of all that'd good, pulling a freaking sword out of a fire doesn't make it magical. My opinion on that is that one of the swords that were made from Ice is going to be Lightbringer, not that stupid one that what's-his-name pulled from the fire. After all, the smith pulled it from the fire while making it, did he not? The story about the making of Lightbringer was so cool, though. I'm a sucker for sacrificial stories. n.n" They're just so much fun.

I own the books, They are my list to read. I first heard about the series from my friends. Also there is a card game based on the books called Game of Thrones.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 03, 2006 8:53 pm
Yeah, I've heard about that game. There's also a board game, I believe. I've never been much of one for either card or board games, so it didn't interest me much.

Actually you use both. It is a very complicated game and there are lots of steps.

Oh, okay. Either way, not my sort of thing.

I have to admit it's the cards (or a mention of them) that got me into George R.R. Marting. Ctrl-Alt-Del the webcomic mentioned him in two or three episodes and I looked him up, decided to read the first book, and was very glad I had hehe. I thought of buying the cards and such but I never was a fan of playing games based off movies or stories, it's just odd to me

Lol, Jon is not the blood of the north. In fact, he is not Ned's son at all. He is Lyanna's. Haven't you ever heard of L+R=J?
I'll give you one guess as to who 'R' is...

Well, this is a theory... One that has become pretty popular. And I think that the two best characters are Peyter, (Peter), and Tyrion. (This excludes Jaquen H'jhar because he is a secondary character.)

And I actually liked this series enough to buy the hardback of AFFC.
