"Talk." 'Thoughts.'

It all felt surreal, seeing his “sister” for the first time. All his time in the castle he felt like he was the replacement for the princess and now that she was here how would the family react? How was he supposed to act? Normally, he looked to his brother for some form of guidance but it seemed like this event was out of the norm for everyone. He was tempted to greet her with a hug but was unsure if that was welcomed or if he would be met with a swift punch and kicked out of the kingdom.

The younger prince looked at Willow to try and gauge where she was at with everything. The weirdest part was she did not look like a princess. She looked extremely tired and potentially annoyed. Oliver felt bad that she was being dragged here by her family to be reintroduced so quickly after being rescued. He was sure her day was already extremely long and she just wanted to rest but he also knew that her day was just beginning. The news of her return would shock the nation and there would be a guaranteed celebration tonight at the very least. He gave her a sympathetic look as their parents explained the importance of her return and the plans for the day.

Oliver felt like he was living now on borrowed time. He had taken castle life for granted wanting to leave, but now he would do anything to stay. He had no idea how to live outside the castle and his powers left little to desire in battle. He looked over the girl once more, was it possible she felt just as out of place in this moment as he did? Would it be possible for him ever to find out or would security for the two increase even more with her return?

”A pleasure to welcome you back sister.” Oliver said with a small bow. He wondered if it would be too strange to introduce himself or worse if he didn’t. He also wasn’t sure how to explain his presence, “Hello I’m your replacement and I’ll be leaving soon since you’re back.” it didn’t seem to have the right ring to it. ”I’m Prince Oliver but the family calls me Olly.” He blubbered out nervously. ’I should have said “Since we're family you can call me Olly.” Stupid, stupid, stupid.’ He shamed himself wanting to smack himself in the face for potentially making a mistake. This was not the time for him to make any mistakes, he had to prove his worth.

                                                        • Less than forty-eight hours ago, Willow had been about to be sentenced to execution for piracy. Now she stood in Winduria’s grandest palace, the one that floated so high in the planet’s atmosphere that the sky was more indigo than it was blue, holding an audience with the country’s very own king in his very own throne room with his queen but initially without his grown children.

Of which she was allegedly one.

It still smelled of bullshit to her. Was it weird that her name happened to be one of the characters in the lost Princess Liu’en’s name? Sure. Was it a pretty big coincidence that her jade necklace had the royal insignia engraved upon it and was able to prevent her from dying messily if she were unable to catch herself from falling more than fifty feet? Yeah. Was it now incredibly strange to be looking at faces that held traces of herself in them? ********. But this had to be one of the captain’s long plays. Willow would know if she were some fancy princess from ******** Winduria, and she wasn’t.

She was Willow Moonwisp, a scrappy orphan Lindethiel had plucked out of a tree on a whim, now a hardened criminal of the skies at seventeen. Always had been, always would be. She had walked into the throne room bound and determined and scraping by on three hours of sleep to tell the king: "hey, sorry about the misunderstanding, but if you could just send me on my way, that’d be great."

Hopefully she could still duck the sentencing long enough to break the crew out of prison, but if she had to stand on the gallows with them? There was no better end.

Then she had walked down a long carpet sandwiched by rows of officials in formal garb, been forced to bow lower than she had ever bowed in her life, and bore the weight of the stares of the ******** king and queen of Winduria. Stick her in a dogfight in the skies or facing down a man twice her size with a blade, she was fine, but this was…incredibly uncomfortable in ways so foreign to her that she might as well be on the moon right now. Every time she tried to speak up, the official that brought her in pointedly cleared his throat, and the king carried on in Winduria’s extremely formal speech that…well, honestly, she couldn’t make out even half of what he was saying. The queen kept giving her these silent, teary eyed looks that made her grimace, too, and the longer she had to put up with all this, the more her nerves were spent.

Then, when the official nervously pointed out that she only appeared to speak the common tongue fluently, the king switched accordingly, and somehow that was worse. She couldn’t stop herself from interrupting his speech then.

"Listen, I don’t know what these quacks have been telling you, but I ain’t Princess Liu’en, and I sure as hell ain’t your daughter."

She didn’t regret it, but she sure did resent that she spent the next half an hour arguing with the royal couple about whether she was their daughter or not. She might as well have been shouting at a wall for all the good it did her; they were convinced she was Princess Liu’en, and that while she would need time to adjust, she would get used to it.

They were certifiable, of that she was sure.

Then the king signaled one of the officials, and he scurried off to apparently fetch the king’s sons, as they walked in shortly thereafter just in time for his royal pain in the a** to start going off about this and that, preparations or some s**t. Willow tuned out, unable to care at this point. It was becoming increasingly clear that her only option was a breakout at the next opportune moment.

Then one of the princes drew closer, giving a shallower bow than she’d had to earlier. He was tall with brown curls and gray eyes, and he probably had baby soft hands from all the pandering being royal granted him, she thought grumpily.

”A pleasure to welcome you back sister.”

                                                          Ugggggghhhhhhhhhh…

”I’m Prince Oliver but the family calls me Olly.”

Even with as tired as she was, Willow could tell there was something off about the way he worded that. Oliver…was the adopted prince, wasn’t he? No wonder he bore hardly any resemblance to anyone else in the room. Man, was this ******** weird, or what? The adopted prince making nice with an imposter princess. Sounded like the start of a really dumb joke.

"Riiiight," she drawled, "so, you weren’t here earlier to hear this, but me? My name’s Willow, not princess or Liu’en or sister or any combination thereof. This is all just one big fat mistake."

                                                        • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

This entire farce was ridiculous. Ever since they caught the bumbling Moorhisp girl or whatever undignified name she had, it was clear that she was just some two-bit pirate teen. Yet his queenly mother had taken one look at her, then at her very clearly stolen pendant and announced that Liu'en was home. If it wasn't such a tasteless joke, he would have laughed. Grief had taken his mother from him in a way that Syena often found impossible to describe. Which meant this wasn't meant to be a joke. Unfortunately, she was deadly serious.

His colorless eyes had watched the entire debacle unfold. Starting from the prison cells where they had detained the captured pirates, moving to the conference rooms with his mother and father, then finally to this mess of an announcement that his 'baby sister' was home. The only pleasure that came from the entire ordeal was watching the little trollop squirm under the weight of the of the title of princess as it was being bestowed upon her.

It would seem that at least this one understood the weight of the crown.

All of the pleasantries over with, they were to be summoned. As if he wasn't already here. How like his parents to forget the weight of his responsibilities when it suited them. Yet, as his hard gaze took in his mother, it was impossible to maintain his anger with her. A small sigh left him, as he closed his eyes and stepped down from their side to officially greet "his sister." Loosing Liu'en had been impossibly hard on all of them. His mother worst of all. The cracks that had formed in his heart that day had never truly healed.

Then Oliver had been brought in. It was as if the queen's grief had blanketed the family until she could just finally find some kind of distraction from it. The sad little orphan boy had offered just that. A soothing balm to their sad little family. How unfortunate it was that the queen's favoritism for a son she never bore had landed Syena at the reigns of the kingdom far too young. Thank the stars that his kingly father and their advisors had been there to guide him.

Disdain soured his stomach as Oliver approached the little whelp. Yet he could almost hear the glee radiating off of his mother as she watched the two begin to make nice. "Riiiight, so, you weren’t here earlier to hear this, but me? My name’s Willow, not princess or Liu’en or sister or any combination thereof. This is all just one big fat mistake." Frustration crackled between his shoulder blades. This stupid little b***h didn't seem to understand the gravity of her situation.

Stepping forward, he offered a look of kind pity to the wench. Bringing one of his hands up to cup her shoulder as if to offer her sympathy. "My dear, poor Liu'en. This must be so confusing for you." Pulling her in, his eyes turned cold as he leaned down to make a show of hugging her. "We both know you're not my sister, but you've been offered a second chance at life simply because you make the queen happy. Now put up and shut up like the rest of us unless you want to lose your life. I'd hate to watch my mother cry because a stupid b***h can't see a good thing when it's thrown in her lap."

                                                  ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

"Talk." 'Thoughts.'

Oliver wasn’t sure what to say to the princess’ request. The dilemma being that while he wanted the bluette to feel more at home here, the prince also knew that if he called her Willow that would sway favor from his family. Right now he was trying to show how valuable and loyal he was so it was best to toss his feelings aside and respond accordingly.

Looking at Syena to see how he was feeling about this, it felt like this was the most sympathetic he had seen him. Was it possible that the poor princess’s return made everyone start showing their softer side? He could hope so. Taken aback, he watched as his older brother laid his hand on her to show kindness. Oliver didn’t know his brother was capable of such an action. He always faked pleasantries to strangers but this was their sister. He doubted that the kindness shown here was fake.

His confusion only continued as Syena brought the girl in for a hug. Maybe all of them could start over! Joy filled him as he thought about the possibility of the siblings all becoming best friends. Oliver had looked up to his brother for guidance for so long only to be met with quick quips and condescending looks, maybe now they could all get along that Princess whatever she wanted to be called was back. ” Yes, but you are safe now,” he added to his brother’s supportive words, not wanting to be left out he spread his arms out wide and wrapped his arms around the two catching the tail end of Syena’s sentence realizing not much had changed.

' What is Syena even talking about? Is he upset at her for getting kidnapped? She was a toddler!', cursing himself for believing anything could actually change. Of course, this was just more show. Still, Oliver couldn’t believe how he was acting, he thought Syena would have been at least a little excited about seeing his long-lost sister. Or at least happy that it meant Oliver was potentially on the next train out of here. But atlas, the man was constantly displeased and it seemed nothing would change that.

Maybe now this was the time for Oliver to start acting as well, ” Sister you must be so scared, but don’t worry we are here for you.” he spoke, now trying to add on to the show. Squeezing the hug, he looked down at Willow trying to show her a look as if to say “Please play along.”
