Twisting Straight Romance...? All right, I've got a question for everyone. In French, we watched The Phantom of the Opera and I've found myself imagining Christine Daae as a male... I really do adore The Phantom of the Opera, probably my favorite movie/musical but I've found the straight love-triangle rather boring.
Has anyone found themselves twisting around The Phantom of the Opera for more amusement, or am I alone in this peculiar game?

Well, there are a lot of anime/manga series in which I wished 2 boys got together *points to her sig as example*...And sometimes I kinda wish Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy from HP would become friends, and maybe closer...

That's certainly an interesting twist. I recall reading a manga called Rapunzel where they did the same thing with that myth.
Personally, characterization matters to me more than the gender of a character, though.

I support all-around romance, but around where I live, if you're anything but straight your lower than a heathen. So, it's such a pressured fact that I think I'm getting frustrated over it. x.x

I don't do that, not really. To tell the truth, most heterosexual couples bore me to death as well, but I can't remember a single time when I would imagine the girl being a man; instead, I usually try to picture the show without her, leaving the guy single or happily pairing him up with someone else. I'm more of a simple slasher, I guess.

Hmm... actually, I usually don't do that. XD; Think of a girl as a guy, that is. I mean, if I were to do that, I'd have to imagine the girl being replaced by a completely new guy, rather than just changing into one, because in the back of my head there would be this voice saying "but it's a giiiirl". *__*;; You know, cuz a girl that looks like a guy is still a girl. <__<
...is it creepy that I've thought about it that much? XD;

I twist alot ie. Lost Jack and Sawyer, Angel, BtVS, Numb3rs, CSI, Scrubs, and even House i don't even know how it will work considering House personality. Basically, most of the TV shows I watch I twist. xd

I ALWAYS do that domokun well most of the time really xd Its just so fun! Now, I just find girl/boy relationships boring....well not everytime but still. Its just not as interesting and hot and and....passionate than boy/boy. So I imagine that the boys go 2gether 3nodding heart Or that the girl magically transforms into a guy whee Hehehe 4laugh heart

I don't turn the girls into guys but I do slash constantly. Especially if I hate the straight pairing. For Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I was totally against Spike/Buffy. I thought Spike was better with Xander. So that was that for me.
But I don't only re-pair them up with people of the same sex. Sometimes I put the girl with another guy, or the guy with another girl. Like for Naruto, I can't stand Sasuke/Sakura. I not only think Sakura deserves way better than Sasuke but I also think that she and Lee are so cute together.
So yeah... I don't change a character's gender. That just sounds a little wonky to me. My issues with straight pairings have little to do with their genitals and that seems like the core of the problem for this form of gender-bending.

I don't so much do that, as in wishing the girl was a guy. I usually don't like the couples and such in anime/manga because the girls usually come off as extremely irritating to me. But what i really do tend to do it over dramatize the small little moments between the male characters of somethnig till in my head they have a romance. Or, like on DNAngel, Wish, or even Cardcaptors, where you either know there is something there or there is enough hints to prove its there, and they do nothing. Thats usually when i twist things around in my head.
