Their possessions hadn't yet been moved, but it didn't bother Xha'kai any. He had found clothes worthy of a fine Gather at the bottom of his chest, carefully tucked away for an occasion such as this.

Glowing green caught the corner of his eye, and he paused with his collar adjustment to admire her once more.

Mnemosynth glowed. There was an aura about her that was enhanced by her bath and oiling. He smiled, utterly enamoured by her very presence. "You were right, by the way. About being brave enough to touch our dreams, and those dreams being happiness. I didn't realise what you meant at first." He didn't remember her exact wording, only the feeling of his heart being summoned, of wanting to prove himself to her...

She tilted her head once more, staring at him with purple eyes. If he closed his own, he could still see the rainbows that froze him by her side. "Are you ready for your encore? Beloved by all, little Mnemosynth will be the brightest star at the Feast."

She said nothing, but he definitely felt a twist of pleasure at his honeyed words.

The Feast itself did not disappoint. The people, the food, the good times promised by great music and wine... The little green was a physical reminder of this new abstinent lease on life he now possessed. Of course, she was worth a lifetime of reservation. Xha'kai was more than happy to show off his dragon partner, intercepting the closest classmate he could find at the earliest opportunity so they could talk dragons.

User ImageWhen all was said and done, there was nothing more for Vsila to do than shake out her skirts. She'd been wearing a gown fit for a lady holder as Lord Tansley's escort, and certainly had no other things to change into. If it was a little wrinkled, a little stained here and there, that hardly mattered. The woman within the dress was fairly glowing with happiness, and with the dragonet freshly oiled and beside her, well. They were quite the pair.

Tiomanth was amazed by the wonder and beauty of everyone and everything in the Weyr. She was presently leaning quite happily against Vsilamer, cuddled but also sprawled. Gazing from time to time at the ceiling, the dragonet made soft croons. How high it was, and how wonderful everything in it! Her innocent fascination was catching, and Vsila smiled.

"Do you like it so much, my love?" the woman asked gently, leaning down to pat the dragonet's soft hide. The little green did not immediately answer, so swept away was she by their surroundings. When she did, it was with a dreamy sigh. Oh, it's splendid, she said, pulling the word absentmindedly from her rider's mind. But it was splendid. Vsila's smile widened, and she stroked Tiomanth's hide with a careful hand. It was rather splendid, wasn't it?

The closest Weyrling happened to be one of those unexpected Stands Impressions. She carried herself with the air of a Lady, and Xha'kai was reminded of his darling Mnemosynth. Poised. Graceful. But there was something overt about her beauty, from the plunging back of her dress to the make-up so artfully applied; Mnemosynth, ethereal in her own way and her own right, carried herself unaware of her own shimmering beauty, old before her time.

He slid two glasses of red fruit juice from a table and offered one to Vsila, his smile rapt. "We're the lucky ones tonight. I can't even imagine what it must be like in those lovely shoes of yours. At least I chose this adventure. How does it feel to have joined the ranks of Pern's most glorious defenders?"

Mnemosynth watched him, awed by the easiness with which he slipped into this newly-found friendship. He was not weighed down by a heavy heart- in fact, he seemed to soar. Her eyes whirled a contented sea-green, to see him so bubbly and light-hearted. When she turned to Tiomanth, who stood beside the woman, tinges of grey threatened the blue. Sister... It is a lovely evening in our honour... She picked her words carefully, doing her best to replicate her rider's easygoing conversational skills. She sounded wistful, as though watching a party from the outside.

Although unfamiliar with Xha'kai, Vsila recognized the bondmate of Tiomanth's last to hatch sister. She hatched early and came out late, the little green told her rider dreamily, her voice somehow far-off and unfocused. "I stand corrected," she said softly to Tiomanth, whose attention had been caught by the undeniable beauty of her sister.

"Tiomanth was just telling me that your beautiful Mnemosynth was not last to hatch, but last to come out," she said to Xha'kai, by way of explanation. It would take some time to get used to the half-vocalized, half-mental conversations, and the niceties surrounding them.

A hint of a smile ghosted across Vsila's lips, even the faint expression transforming the woman. "It is overwhelming, to be sure. I had never imagined such a thing. But Tiomanth is..." The words failed her. "She defies description. I'm not quite sure how to feel, if truth be told." There were so many complexities to that. Now that the astonishment had worn off, her responsibilities loomed large. How was she to reconcile them, when Tiomanth was now her greatest concern, and by tradition her only responsibility? "How about you? How do you feel about it?"

It is beautiful, Tiomanth all but whispered, her voice soft and wondering. She sensed something in her green sister. Something... not quite so happy, and didn't know how to help. Is this what you wanted? she asked, not sure where the pain point was, but... shifting over, she offered her sister a cuddle. She would not take what was not wanted to be taken, but... maybe a little comfort would be good. How lovely everything was!

Mr Cheri

Ah, Vsila was perceptive, as was her dragon. He slipped that away for later, raising his brows at her in amusement, grin growing larger. "She had a song caught in the depths of her lovely hearts, and needed a captive audience. And she tells me," he paused his, lowering his voice for dramatic effect, "that it was much easier to find me after all the good ones were already picked." He smiled at this, eyes aglow with humour, before adding, "she saved the best for last!" Juvenile humour really, but Tiomanth had chosen hers after long deliberations: Vsila had no reason to feel left out of his judgement at all.

Mnemosynth studied her sister's rider, careful consideration of her dress and make-up noted. Tiomanth, you picked someone worthy of your beauty and kindness. Was it very difficult to find her in the Stands? Conversation seemed to flow easier, suddenly, as if the green weren't so afraid of her sibling in that moment.

At the dragon's question, Mnesyn uttered a soft, melodious, no. The grey spiralled into the blue, whirling and turning it into a storm. With a regal posture befitting a queen, she hung her head. It feels cold here, for all the warmth. Dull, for all the light. I am glad for my rider, and for speaking with you... Earnestness filled her last words, as if scrabbling back at the melancholy, trying not to cast a palor over the party. I am... happy if others are enjoying themselves. Was she ever happy? A question for the ages.

The dark haired man nodded as Vsila spoke, resting a comforting hand on Mnemosynth's head all the while. Poor dear struggled with the festive atmosphere. He was of half-mind to save her from her glumness by whisking her off to the barracks, but somehow he sensed that wasn't the fix for her melancholy mood. "It feels like... A part of you that you didn't realise was missing has awoken, and taken a life of its own. And that partnership... Knowing I'll never be alone again, the love and light that she brings me just by being her... It's worth all the misadventures just to be standing here together, now, in this moment. Our lives forever changed..." He did his best to emulate Vsila's articulate ways, but found it was Mnesyn who had given him his poetic glow.

The dragonet looked up, the grey fading at his words. The reassurance would never be tiresome. They are both good people. She said with surprising certainty.

Tiomanth had managed to artlessly interpose herself between her smaller sister and the crowd beyond. Whether it was intentional of merely a whim of the moment was difficult to ascertain; Tiomanth was, to the depths of her soul, a genuine and loving creature. To love her sister was as easy as breathing. Easier, even. An outpouring of affection and wonder filled the green's hearts, and washed over Mnemosynth. Oh dear Mnemosynth, you are the beautiful one! Always so full of glittering sorrow. You shine so, and I hope that you won't let our company dim your glow. Her poor sister seemed tragic, somehow, filled with a triste that Tiomanth couldn't touch, not even with her own gentle warmth.

"Ah," mused Vsila, glancing down at the beautiful green at Xha'kai's side. "I wish that I had heard everything that you did," she told him, a little saddened that even in that moment Mnemosynth's audience had been an audience of one. "Would you mind telling her that if she ever does want someone to listen we'll both be happy to?" The little green's plight tugged at her heart strings, as children often did. How could she but feel a bit of tenderness for a dragon child who was seemingly in need?

She laughed softly at her fellow greenrider's humor. "I think Tiomanth was too busy enjoying the world to notice me at first, but maybe I'm wrong there." She had, after all, been quite high up in the Stands. That lord holder's son was probably off galivanting with the rider who'd been on his other side. What the two of them were up to... she didn't care to know. Nor did it matter a bit.

She was hiding, Tiomanth informed Mnemosynth. I could feel her, but I couldn't see her. I had to ask her to come down, she explained. It seemed to happen from time to time, and it had happened to her. Yet Mnemosynth's was no less perfect for her than if he had been hidden in a thousands Stands.

Pausing at her sister's words, she wondered aloud: Do you want to go outside? Or somewhere else? Somewhere a little quieter? she asked solicitously, extending a protective wing toward her sister. It hurt her to see her sister suffering like this, although she knew her well enough to know that suffering beautifully was also a part of who Mnesyn was.

"I never understood what riders meant when they said that until I felt Tiomanth's presence with me. It was... indescribable. Like opening up a door to a whole new world of possibility, extending and expanding your own sense of self far beyond what you ever conceived of. It is... wondrous." As wonderful, in its own way, as Tiomanth's perception of the world. "And though choosing to be here is a sacrifice in and of itself, I couldn't imagine living any differently." For it was true that she had put her family at risk by accepting Tiomanth.

A hint of assurance colored the dragonet's eyes with a flood of blue, and she tried all the more to be a buffer for her sister. They are, she agreed. They were indeed wonderful people.
