Beautiful, blush hues spread across the horizon as Rukbat began its celestial dance once more. Wisps of cloud scintillanted with crimsons and golds, pinks and purples capturing the vividness in a stunningly soft and ephemeral moment. The air was warm and fragrant, promising a beautiful summer ahead.

Time stretched. It stretched endlessly. Nyaranau blinked at the sunrise, breathing deeply of the magic of the scene. Her hand rested on her dragon's nose, still after gentle caresses. Patience, patience... And yet, every breath was tense, threatening to burst out of her chest. Each breath was charged with an indescribable energy, and Nyara struggled to stay still.

How long are you going to stay here? Nyaranau swayed from side to side, enjoying the breeze on her face as she sunk further into the endless pool of love that was her dragon.

We will never be apart, my love... but I can feel it. The need to dance. The need to sing. The need to love.

I know we're together... The heady desires had already started to fill her mind, and it was becoming harder to ignore the siren call. Go, fly, dance. Mictecath, everything will be all right. One last gentle, encouraging pat, and the golden dragon swept off from her ledge, taking Nyara's heart with her.

The gold crooned to the Weyr, settling amongst the herdbeasts with little delay. She snatched one, and found herself butting heads with her rider's will. Blood only, love. Meat is too heavy. Red seeped into the purple hues of her eyes, and the dragon-queen hissed a little, driven by lust and need. Still, the blood was a comfort, and a few beasts later the gold was sated, hunger forgotten, her desire for freedom and love stealing her full attention.

Come, my family! Let us dance! Let us sing! Let's lose ourselves to the skies and the craziness of love. She crooned once more, golden hide glowing in the dawn light. Muscles bunched and coiled as she prepared herself, attention flickering skywards. They would come. They would help protect their home, in their own way. This was their moment.

Nyara watched from her weyrledge, heart in her throat, wondering if people would find her here. Should she move? There was a fleeting sense of vulnerability, and for once Nyara was at a loss. Deep breath, and relax... This was going to be fine. She found herself moving towards her bed, comforted by the physical stability it offered.

About Nyaranau:
Vivacious, loving and enthusiastic, Nyara is a whirlwind of energy and positivity. Her ebullient joie de vivre conceals insecurities and a fear of loneliness: Nyara surrounds herself with people so she doesn't have to deal with all the worries she buries.

Positive Trait List: Excitable, Intelligent, Passionate
Negative Trait List: Fear of loneliness, Self-absorbed, Easily distracted

About Mictecath:
Extremely physically affectionate, Mictecath is a doting, nurturing dragon with a lot of love to offer. She yearns to be a mother, and embraces her maternal role with a great deal of enthusiasm. She is, at times, overprotective of those she loves, and can be a bit vengeful when she feels someone has wronged a loved one. Her wrath is certainly something to behold when provoked.

Positive Trait List: Maternal, Responsible, Demonstrative
Negative Trait List: Overprotective, Smothering, Vindictive

Welcome to Mictecath's maiden flight! Echoes of Pern has hatched a brand new surprise for you all- a possible double clutch across both Weyrs! heart

Flight Begins: Now
Round 1 Begins: Wednesday, 23rd of June at 20:00 PDT (x)

Rules:

  • This Flight is open to HR dragons only. Both played and NPC dragons are welcome. If the winner is a NPC, art will be created for that dragon. The winner will also have an opportunity to write a dragon for the clutch! Yay! heart

  • All dragons except White dragons are welcome to participate, but only a Brown or a Bronze can win. Greens and Blues must drop out at some point. There will likely be an opportunity for mass ledge-cuddling post-Flight, if dragons are open to this. heart

  • Participants may win a prize afterwards, through RNG and rolling. This is at staff discretion. ^^

  • A Flight winner will be randomly selected by rolling from the top three point scorers and a fourth dragon chosen for roleplay/compatability merit.

  • Rolling but not writing a post will halve your score for that round. Not posting results in a 0.

  • There will be four rounds, with the first proper round starting on Wednesday at 8pm PDT. There'll be an approximate 48h window between rounds, and I'll try to announce when an hour remains in discord.

  • Please note, Mictecath will welcome the future clutchparent on the sands, and encourage him to participate in the care and nurturing of their children. This isn't obligatory, and the winner is welcome to be as (un-)involved as they want.

  • Mictecath wishes that everyone could win, but there can only be one (unfortunately). I hope you have fun, and may fortune favour you! heart

Mechanics:

This Flight may play a little differently to the standard.

Mictecath is a music-loving dragon, and will spend time singing and dancing this Flight. My plan is to incorporate song lyrics into the posts, possibly with a link to a song.

Suitors are encouraged to sing back! It's optional, but feel free to link a song that complements Mictecath's, or shares a lyrical theme. Bonus points may be awarded to those who post or create songs that appeal to her. Feel free to make one up if you can't find something that you enjoy.

New mechanics also include three RNG tables to roll from: starting in round 2, the three lowest-scoring participants will roll from the Good Luck Table each round (check the Flight List for the updated scores each round) in addition to rolling their regular points. Meanwhile, Mictecath will roll from the Bad Luck Table, potentially impacting the three highest-scoring participants each round.

Fighting between suitors is frowned upon by Mictecath, but if your dragon is so inclined, you may choose to roll from the Fight! Table instead of rolling your points (unless you are already rolling from the Good Luck Table). Please declare your target before rolling: any dragon from the previous round is an eligible target, except Mictecath (who will roust you from the flight if you dare quell her singing with violence).

Stats:

These are not your traditional stats! Please be honest in your assessment of your dragon, to keep things fair.

  • Participant: +5
  • Musical: +10
  • Loving, demonstrative or affectionate: +10
  • Sociable, witty, charming, humorous: +10
  • Protective, keen Thread-fighter, heroic: +10

  • Nevidenth: +5
  • Izdubath: +5

Tables

Good Luck Table: Roll 1d20

1: Oh no! You'd found a good thermal that would help you get ahead, but another dragon blocked your move! +0 to your running score!

2-5: Mwahaha! A dragon ahead of you was blinded by sunlight, and you were able to overtake them! +5 to your running score!

6-9: Inspired by the many dance moves on show, you twirl and dive ahead of the competition. +10 to your running score!

10-12: Tempted to tear the competition from the sky? Good thing you didn't- Mictecath just changed direction and now you're ahead. +15 to your running score!

13-15: A croon and a batting of metaphorical eyelashes spurs you to greater heights! Filled with passion and adrenaline, you surge ahead. +20 to your running score!

16-17: What luck! A careless dragon furled wings with another ahead of you, leaving the path clear. Their clumsiness has given you a chance to pull ahead! +25 to your running score!

18-19: You didn't have to barge past the other suitors: the winds pushed them aside, giving you a direct path towards Mictecath. +30 to your running score!

20: The winds shifted in your favour and you're soaring ahead of the competition! You may be a dragon normally, but right now you are a leaf on the wind! +35 to your total score!

Bad Luck Table

1: She's... so... close... If you could just... reach out... a deafening roar from Mictecath stops you in your tracks. You momentarily plummet from your position, losing both height and speed. -35 to your running score!

2-4: A sudden change in wind causes you to pull a muscle in your wing. You handle the pain, but the distraction has caused you to lose your spot. -30 to your running score!

5-8: Another dragon just bullied their way into your airspace and stole your thermals! How dare! -25 to your running score!

9-12: A sudden desire to rip into the nearest suitor overtakes your senses: you struggle against the urge, but the distraction is costly. -20 to your running score!

13-15: Seems like your most recent compliment missed the mark. Time to think of something even more brilliant- or to fly better than normal! -15 to your running score!

16-17: Ouch! A nearby dragon accidentally clipped you with their tail. It stings, but you've dealt with far worse, right? -10 to your running score!

18-19: Startled by a sudden, unexpected roar from a nearby suitor, you mistime a wingbeat and lose your momentum. -5 to your running score!

20: How lucky are you! Your proximity to Mictecath did not upset her, although she dances tantalisingly out of your reach. +0 to your running score!

Fight! Table: Roll 1d6

1: Crit Fail
Your target saw you coming and neatly evaded your claws. You fell back in the chase as a result. -30 points to your total score!

2: Barely a scratch
You swiped at your target, but they seem unphased for the most part. -10 points to your target's total score, but -20 points to your total score.

3: Right, Left, Oooh
Nice swipe! As you distracted your target, you are able to overtake them. -15 points to your target's total score, +15 points to your total score.

4: Coming in Hot
You barrel towards your target and show them a bad time. As they recover, you steal the thermals they had been riding and propel yourself ever closer.
-20 points to your target's running score, +20 points to your running score.

5: A Small Victory Dance
Oooh! Take that! You delivered a surprising blow to your target, who had to roll away to soak most of the damage. Their rolling has cleared the path for you- onwards and upwards!
-25 points to your target's running score, +25 points to your running score.

6: Welcome to the Danger Zone
It was a savage attack! Your target was left reeling, and you gained a significant advantage- just make sure Mictecath doesn't catch you.
-30 points to your target's running score, +30 points to your running score. If this is the second time you've rolled this, receive -15 point penalty from Mictecath for undue amounts of violence.

It had been a long time since Bajeth had felt the call of a queen stir him. In Turns past he'd chased a few times with the enthusiastic blessing of his now deceased weyrmate, and since her passing he'd never felt the urge to try to catch any other who rose. S'ian's own depression over losing his weyrmate as well had created a rather dark hole within the two of them and for a while nothing could lighten their spirits. But now...now there was someone. Two someones, actually. A young man and his equally young blue - brother to Mictecath, in fact - had become close to Bajeth and S'ian. Close in a way neither had expected to have twice in one lifetime. S'ian was a mess still, unsure if following this path was the right thing to do, but Bajeth knew it was only a matter of time before he came around. The two were soothing the old wounds, helping them heal, and when Mictecath bid the weyr a good morning and a gentle challenge Bajeth felt ready to respond.

It surprised S'ian, that much was obvious. He sat up in bed, staring at Bajeth who perched on the ledge of their weyr. The dragon felt his rider's eyes on his back and turned to look at him, giving him waves of reassurance and love.

Mictecath is a queen who will understand and not flinch away from our pain, Mine, he hummed softly to his rider, trying to comfort him and soothe his worry. This is a step towards healing. They would have wanted us to do so and not wallow in our grief. That made S'ian glance away and Bajeth felt the stab of pain in his chest that his rider experienced whenever he brought them up. It wasn't as sharp or as intense as it used to be, but it was certainly still there. There was confusion in S'ian's mind that Bajeth could sense as well and he knew he was warring with himself over many things, the least of which being whether or not he should seek out Ky'ess.

Don't force yourself. I know this is hard. Let the morning guide you. And with that the bronze took to the air, making his way slowly towards the feeding grounds to answer the glowing queen's call.

I may not be the most graceful or tune well, but I will certainly try for you, Mictecath. You've chosen a glorious morning for your first flight. His tone was affectionate and jovial as he approached the place where Mictecath waited, settling outside the feeding pens. He did eye them for a moment, always one to enjoy a good, fresh herdbeast, but he knew eating now would spoil his chances of winning. He certainly wasn't a bronze with rippling muscles and powerful wings, but that just made him all the more enjoyable to cuddle with, in his opinion. Turning his gaze from the herdbeasts to Mictecath, he gave a gentle croon to prove he was willing to try.

The Other Side

---

Bajeth: Bajeth is a friendly, outgoing dragon who loves to laugh, eat, and make new friends. Kids are a delight to him - both of the dragon and human persuasion - and he'll be the first to volunteer to watch over those scampering around in the Creche or to introduce himself to the new junior weyrlings during their training sessions. Although he's currently working through some old and new feelings - good and bad - he's far quicker to put on a happy face and interact with others than his rider is. Bajeth is quite fond of any dragon that is smaller than him, no matter the color, as he loves to curl up around them and snuggle.
S'ian: Emotionally unavailable, won't be participating.

Colors spread resplendently across the morning, a view Khazariath was certain he'd never sour of - and that D'rok would never tire of watching his dragon spread across his ledge. The rising sun was usually the only real wondrous thing about a morning to either dragon or boy but as D'rok was drawn to a stop in his way to join his lifemate by a surge of curiosity.

What is it? D'rok asked, barely taking two more steps before Khazariath drew himself fluidly up to his feet, spreading his wings. There was no alarm or concern in the dragon's thoughts so it couldn't have been anything ill that stirred him so.

Mictecath is taking to the skies, D'rok. Khazariath informed his rider with a certain frankness. Not clinical, but measured and steady. D'rok nearly bowled over at the realization of what went unsaid. It was his duty to chase a gold, and did a rising maiden not deserve a fine gentleman in the fray?

Go on, then. You know I'll be here. Like an anchor that would hold the bronze down to Pern as he joined the gold's chorus above. While he'd not be seeking out any partner for himself that evening, he'd remain fully thrall to Khazariath's feelings.

A lack of bulky muscle made it easy enough for him to take off from his ledge, circling the Weyrbowl with patient anticipation for the takeoff to come. Any looks sent to other incoming suitors were hardly aggressive or judging. At least, if there was any appraisal to be had in the whirling purples of his eyes it was for a far different reason than others may have had.

I will chase the fading stars with you, grand and glorious Mictecath.

The Calling

-----

Khazariath

Khazariath is wise beyond his Turns, carrying himself with learned and practiced grace and nobility. He is a paranoidly cautious dragon who does not take spur-of-the-moment risky leaps. He also has 0 romantic love for the ladies, but does desire to be a father.

Positive Traits: Alert, perceptive, wise
Negative Traits: Paranoid, avaricious, clingy

Resting upon the Fireheights and enjoying the morning as Rukbat began to rise into the skies, Taoloth's large head was resting upon his forelegs. Soft and slow breathings puffed out of the brown as he laid enjoying the warmth of the suns rays, whirling eyes watching as some dragons in the weyr below glittered as they moved.

There was one gold, glowing and glittering beautifully in the sunlight, that caught Taoloth's attention as she took to the air after letting out a croon. Soon purple began to weave into the green as Taoloth pushed himself slowly to his feet, stretching his wings and leisurely taking his time.

Feeling Tahirah's questioning as she felt the feelings bleeding through their link, Taoloth reached out a soft and relaxing touch to her. Mictecath is rising mine, I am chasing. Now the touch turned to a soft urging. This could be a chance for you to fine someone to be with, even if only for a night. With those parting thoughts to his bonded Taoloth walked to the edge and let himself drop off, waiting until he was perhaps a bit too close to the ground to open his wings before beating them and moving into the air to join Mictecath and the others who already arrived.

You are like a rose blooming in a desert this morning Mictecath dear. I already feel parched, longing for a taste of the nourishing love you can provide. Movements slow as he twisted his body through the air, Taoloth's whirling purple-green eyes stayed locked upon Mictecath. Lead us upon this dance my Queen, but remember if you find yourself faltering or tired, I am here.

Desert Rose

-------------------------------

Taoloth: A brown that is a bit more on the smaller and delicate side, there are many who underestimate Taoloth. Quick-witted and charming he enjoys flirting with male and females, as well as vying for control and wanting to be in control in most situations.

B'shir, always an early riser, was already halfway through his morning workout when Sakneth announced, Mictecath is rising. I will pursue her.

B'shir had been a dragonrider for thirteen turns, and he wasn't exactly uncomfortable with the idea of seeking out the rider of whatever dragon Sakneth was chasing, having been raised in the Weyr and by a very traditional family, but he was coming to recognize that it was neither his right nor his duty to do so.

I think I will stay here, he told the departing bronze. He knew there was no point in reminding his bronze that they had early morning drills in less than an hour and got started on pumping out the last few sets of pushups that were part of his morning routine before things got heated.

Sakneth had more or less forgotten his rider by the time B'shir returned to doing pushups. He had far more interesting things to consider now, such as reviewing everything that he knew about the young gold rising for her first flight, and what strategy would work best to end up with his tail and hers entwined. As it turned out, he knew almost nothing about her, and so he would just have to let his excellent flying and skill with words impress her. As he flew toward the herdbeasts' pens, his hearts sped up with the thrill of pursuit and the opportunity to show Mictecath what a real bronze could do.

What a joy it was to my eyes, waking up to the light of your gaze, he said privately to her as he drew close enough to see her pale gold face and dark-rimmed eyes. He preferred not to bellow out his imprecations so that all could hear. Sweet nothings were meant to be exchanged intimately, after all.

A Dios le Pido

_____

B'shir: B'shir is a product of his upbringing, and is not comfortable around females, nor good at expressing his emotions, but he is thoughtful and even a little soft-hearted beneath his flat affect. He's not the sort you'd want to try to start a relationship with, to be honest. Not to mention, there's his dragon.
Sakneth: Sakneth is intelligent, charming, and arrogant. He tends to view females as prizes to be won, in actuality. He's your basic alpha jerk, honestly. He believes that there is an order to things, and as a bronze he belongs toward the top of it, but that doesn't mean that he's not willing to say whatever needs to be said to get what he wants. If Mictecath likes music and sweetness, that's what she'll get from him - at least for the duration of the flight. If he should win, he'd definitely be there for his sons, teaching them all the things he believes they ought to know and trying to make them think and act as he does. Any theoretical girl offspring are their mother's lookout.

Dawn broke slowly, stars fading like dreams to the hazy place where memories fled to rest. A soft rumble broke Iweth's easy breathing, swirling eyes drifting open in a sea of deepest blue. A blink. Another. A gentle croon as he heaved himself up from his stone couch, to stretch and flex his wings and gaze out across the bowl to where the first scream of a blooded beast had just echoed from. Theo. Theo, wake up, he insisted, firm but gentle. A confused grunt was his answer, his rider starting up in a tangle of messy curls from where he lay, piled 'round with furs against the cool mountain mornings. "Iweth? What is it? Something the matter...?" Through their bond the bronze felt the chill of the stone floor as his rider's feet found it, flinching back briefly as the poor man struggled to get caught up and come awake.

Nothing is wrong, but there, look...! The dragon stepped onto his ledge, stretching languidly like molten brass again, the ruddy dawn shading his blue eyes to purple... or perhaps that was the sight of the stunning gold below, her invitation warming him far faster than Rukbat's glow could. Mictecath... shining brighter than any star, than any flame in threadfall. Do you see her, my Theo? She is beautiful... worthy of her own epic tale, of poems, of songs...! Caught up in a sudden unfathomable longing, he gave a pealing cry, a morning bell struck to ring pure, out over the rousing Weyr in delight.

By the time Theo had tugged his boots on, a wave of confusion, and then even more alarming understanding crashing over him and shooting him from baffled sleepiness to sharp waking, Iweth was gone from his perch. In a flare of wings he'd dove from his spot, swooping down to join the growing flock of suitors. To each he sent a fond trill of greeting, calling to them one by one, and by name, his hearts already overflowing with love, though the main of it, for now at least, was aimed at Mictecath herself. You have only to lead the way, and I will follow, radiant Mictecath—let our hearts make the sweetest of musics, oh! You can sing me anything...!

Theo: Theo is a bookish, somewhat wilting flower of a man, really. He's an old soul in a young body, and more retiring than the typical harper—happier quietly observing than up on stage, he'd rather watch life go by because if it came for him he'd not quite sure what he'd do about it. With a bright, romantic view of the world, he struggles to grasp the reality of how harsh life can be, and he shrinks somewhat from the chance to find out. His passions are more theoretical than real, his mental flights of fancy often consuming him to the point of distraction—he's definitely the type to daydream entire conversations and encounters with people, but then never actually try to have those conversations in reality.
He won't be coming to Nyara's weyr!
Pros: Artistic, a romantic, obliging, humble.
Cons: Fainthearted, naïve, easily flustered, an over-thinker.

Iweth: Iweth is a dragon who knows what life is all about. Debonair, this dragon seems to have a natural charm and air about him. He walks with all the confidence his color affords, and knows exactly how to charm those around him. A sweet word for a green, reverence for the golds, and even an ability to sweet-talk the boys! Honestly, there are very few who don't get along with Iweth--he's a class act. Charm oozes from him, and he will never be caught fumbling over any social situation. But Iweth is far from perfect. The bronze is cultured and classy but also a bit fanciful. He daydreams much of his day away, and is always thinking of more outrageous and outlandish ideas. He dreams of sweeping a gold or green off her wings during a flight, and finding some great love affair; but he'd just as easily think of being swept up by the Weyrleader's bronze and swooning in such rugged arms.
Pros: Cultured, considerate, debonair.
Cons: Dramatic, fanciful, reactive.

Mictecath rising did not catch Aryath completely unaware. He had been watching the young glowing queen carefully these past few days. The queen flights were always interesting when dragons who normally did not join him came out to play. So when she finally announced her call to sing, he was ready. Have fun, mine! He bid as he took off from his ledge.

Glorious Mictecath, you deserve the best and the best is here to chase. We are both perfection. Aryath had no shame in claiming to be the best choice. If she needed to be reminded he would happily do so. He circled as he waited, giving encouragement (but only to Mictecath.)Rejoice and love yourself today! This is your time to shine.

Nanuth was resting on his ledge that he shared with his fellow brown belonging to his little light's weyrmate. He was taking in the beauty of the skies as the sun began to rise, not knowing there would something even more gorgeous to take his attention. He was letting his beloved red head inside get a little more sleep, at least that had been his intention. Then a croon from elsewhere came to his attention, a croon he knew quite well. If there was any doubt of who it was, voice that filled his head and every fiber of his being confirmed it. He rose as quickly as his remaining three legs could handle to a standing position.

My beautiful light, you know I would not wake you earlier than needed..but...Nanuth mentally nudged the young woman inside.

We don't have drills for a bit longer, Nanuth dear, you..oh..oh!Zamistia's voice sleepily began, then got more aware as she woke. She now felt her heart hammering, as her dragon's emotions washed over her. She hurried out of bed, to take a look outside. Her mind wanted to deny it, after all, she had heard word that Western had just had a gold flight. However, seeing through her dragon's eyes and getting hit in the head with his mix of love and need, she couldn't deny that they were about to have one of their own. And it wasn't just any gold, it was Mictecath, someone very near and dear to her brown.

We knew this day would come, my light. And now, now it is here. I may not be good at singing, but answer her call as best as I can I will, the brown thought back. Misty would feel how much he was determined on this one and he was right, they knew the say Mic would rise would be upon them.

Of course, my dear one, I would never deny you this. Just, please be careful. And pass on to Mic that I send my love to Nyara and hope she finds at least one pair of arms to nestle in..like I have,Misty agreed. She watched as her strong brown pushed off from the ledge and spread his wings, sending his love back to her as he headed to where Mic was with her other suitors. Then she turned around to pounce the male still sleeping in their bed.

Ah my golden light, I have been waiting for this day with much anticipation. You had hoped for this, now the moment is your's. Shine like always, I will be here for you to catch you and welcome you home to my loving wings,Nanuth called to his sister. His attention was on the gold, but he did notice some of his cousins in the mix. He wondered if a certain brown brother of his would be here as well, not seeing him quite yet. He also sent some love to his siblings he knew would be down below.

It's morning, but the sun isn't the only thing rising today--Mictecath had started blooding, and Yihoth knew a cue to get going when he saw one. As he takes to the air to join his fellow suitors, he can almost feel a familiar sort of thrum, the anticipation practically palpable as all eyes turned to watch the young queen preparing for her flight.
The Brown takes a deep breath, steeling himself in the last few moments before he landed among the others. He awkwardly slips into the crowd as best he can, carefully navigating his bulk through the spaces between everyone else until he's in a good position. She's already amassed a respectable number of chasers, but Yihoth was certain there would be more yet to come. After all, she'd called them. Who were they to deny that?

You picked a lovely mornin', Mictecath. And it looks like you've got plenty of us here to sing for you, too. Yihoth's mindvoice was all warmth, soft and perhaps a little hesitant it may have been; briefly, he worries if he's coming off right all the same. This was her day at the end of it all, and he hardly wanted to ruin a portion of it, no matter how small. Might even be a dancer or two in here. I'd say you're probably lucky enough for it.

Brown Yihoth
summary : A massive (literally) sweetheart with a down-home sense of hospitality and kindness, Yihoth is a gentle giant who's commonly described as a thoughtful, considerate dragon. Unfortunately, he can be a bit of a doormat due to how much he wants to please others, and isn't so great at standing up for himself. He's honest and humble, but is a romantic at his core, although he's a little too self-conscious to let that show all that much.
positive traits : people-pleaser, loving, sociable, grounded, accepting.
negative traits : people-pleaser, non-confrontational, self-conscious, sensitive, anxious.

It hadn't been long since word came down the grapevine that Western was soon to be expecting a clutch. Banashe had noted the news, but not really paid much attention to it. However, Severith had been paying attention to something, or rather someone else. His rider noticed his attention early one morning. Is something up? Haven't you noticed? Can't say that I have? She didn't keep tabs on every dragon after all.

The brown snorted. Well I have. Mictecath will be rising soon. Ah, was her reply. No wonder the brown had been paying attention to that. You're chasing. Banashe stated it as a fact, not a question. Of course. I have to try to catch them all. I want to be the best like no one was. She covered a snort of laugh. Aye aye. Good luck. The rider settled back down into her bed. She had no interest in the gold's rider.

When the gold's call finally came early that morning, the one-eyed brown was ready. He bugled his participation as soon as he could. Severith launched from his ledge, joining the other dragons rising from the weyr, soon to be in pursuit of the gold. You have only to start the tempo and the music and we will be off Mictecath! Let nothing hold us back.

T'en had first awoken when the skies were dark, tossing about in a petulant, half-conscious state for more hours than he cared to admit. He wasn't too warm, nor was he anxious about what the day might bring, but the time finally came when he could no longer pretend he was getting any rest. The man sat up with a huff, peering bleary daggers at his bronze. In response, the dragon sent him a vision of Mictecath that shined so brightly he was surprised his mind hadn't been burned hollow in its wake.

She's so very lovely. T'en watched as Rixth's Thread-scarred form tipped over the side of his ledge and disappeared. Whether he meant to chase or simply observe wasn't clear, but the outpouring of love he shared with the gold as he landed near the feeding pens was uplifting and fiercely genuine.

Left alone, T'en almost curled into a ball and blocked out the world with his pillow. From the very beginning he had held Nyara at arm's length, citing her importance or their difference in age, but if there was ever a moment to chop that arm off—

    Terrible analogy.

    Shut up.

T'en sat motionless for the better part of a minute trying to string together a coherent argument before jolting to his feet and hurrying out of his weyr. Even if this ended in a party, he was determined to be the first to arrive.

Quote:
Having avoided weyr life for fifteen years, T'en consented to be stationed at High Reaches due to Rixth's desire to fight Thread and be closer to the family he had agreed not to acknowledge. The pair have had a number of injuries and lingering fears that have kept them from doing as well as T'en would have liked, but no one can say they haven't tried their hardest.

It was dawn but that wasn't a problem for Venandith. The large brown wasn't known for sleeping in, and while he had been unsuccessful in rousing His from sleeping in, the brown had found himself perched near the peaks of the Seven Spindles The height offered him quite a view of the neighboring mountains, the sunrise, and the dragon's below. While he had intended to spread his wings and soak up the morning warmth until His awoke--a golden figure had caught his eye.

It was Mictecath, and she looked absolutely radiant as she moved towards the feeding pens. In fact, the entire morning seemed to change as she blooded her kill. This was not just a morning meal, no.... It was time for her to rise.

His eyes immediately swirled purple, and he was quick to throw himself from the peaks. Diving down towards the Bowl, Venandith landed just outside the pens. He kept his wings half-spread, his own muscles tense in the assumption that soon--very soon--she would take off. He didn't intend to waste a moment's energy if it wasn't spent pursing her.

He was not unaware that Mictecath and he had always had a contentious relationship; they had misunderstandings since he had all but broken shell, and while time and experience had worked out some of the wrinkles, he knew well that at least one of his brothers would be there to compete. The favorite. In fact, there he was -- already oozing what he must have thought passed as charm to the queen. A flash of red entered his gaze, before the purple consumed it. He was not afraid of competition, and he certainly wasn't afraid of proving, for once and for all, that he was more than Nanuth, and even perhaps Mictecath, bargained for.

But Nanuth deserved no more of his attention, and instead, he sent a deep throated croon to Mictecath in response to her call. They might not always see eye to eye, but he knew she deserved the best of the best-- and he would not disappoint her in this chase. He was, of course, amazing--and he would do whatever he had to do to make sure Mictecath saw him for the great brown that he was.

I know the song you sing, Mictecath; it's a melody that plays on the strings of our souls; a rhythm that rattles us down to our bones. No matter our tumultuos path, I will prove that my love for our family--now, and those to come--will live on forever--with every beat of my proud heart! Perhaps it was a bit much but it was truth. No one seemed to see his hearts as they truly were... so he would have to shout it, or in this case, sing it.

Mic and he were family, certainly, and there was no doubt Ven had pride enough to encompass all his clutchmates and family...even Nanuth (bleh). By the end of this flight, the family line would continue to grow... and though but a brown, Ven was determined. It was not enough to sit on the sidelines; he would someday have strapping sons, and the fiercest of daughters... only then would his hearts be truly full.

Venandith Basically a hero, Venandith is amazing. And don't think that he won't tell you all about it. He does take great pride in showing himself to be an example among Browns. For that reason he'll be the first to volunteer for a dangerous mission. If there was a break in the line, he'd be right there, ready and willing to go right into the thick of things. But ooph, watch the face! There's only one like that in all of Pern. If there is one thing to say of Venandith, it's that he's persistent. He will doggedly pursue a task to the bitter end, even if that means putting himself and his rider at terrible risk. He'd rather not, of course, but if something needs done, this is one dragon who will do it.
