Bent carefully over her work, Yunara was sewing neat little stitches into a Candidate robe that had been torn during the last Hatching. Somehow it had avoided mending until now, but the Weyr was not going to be short handed at a time like this. They were perfectly good robes, just a bit torn. She had some more handiwork beside her in a basket, with the aim to get through it all that day. Unlike most days, today Yunara was not needed in the kitchen, but here.

It was probably because of the recent Flight. The Weyr was buzzing with anticipation, every inhabitant on some level probably wondering what the new clutch would bring. For her own part, the girl wasn't too terribly curious, but she would like to see the babies when they came. She'd been there at Anakumath's Hatching, watching from the Stands as each dragonet hatched and then Impressed. K'rou had Impressed at the same Hatching, although... well, she didn't want to think about that.

Today there were some Candidates assisting in the mending, and she glanced around to see if there was anyone that she knew. Quiet as she was, it was unlikely. Not unless they'd spent a lot of time in the kitchens, and well... no, she didn't see anyone she remembered. At least not by name, though there were some familiar faces.

Elibrie always welcomed being given mending as a chore; it was familiar and comfortable, and she was a practiced hand at it. Helping in the kitchens, too, was among her favorites - anything that utilized the few abilities she was confident in. If she hadn't agreed with her sister to be spirited away by their aunt a Turn ago, she'd likely have been married by now, and of course expected to tend to such things as sewing and cooking, so she'd been diligent about heeding her lessons. Not that it would have been tolerated if she hadn't been.

Regardless, the familiar tasks were soothing, and kept her from feeling completely adrift in this still-strange world. She went about her work quietly, with an occasional whispered aside to the dark blue flit cuddled beside her, to which he would reply with a little boop or soft cheep. Lullaby was a good boy.

Somewhat less reliably good was Snoops, who had grown bored with this rather monotonous activity, and he was soon slinking away from Elibrie's basket of mending-to-be-done. She quickly spotted him straying, however, about to peep his nose into Yunara's basket instead. "Don't you even, sir," she chided in hushed tones. "Go find Moondrop and play in the snow if you can't sit still."

The little blue wilted, looking from basket to Elibrie with a sigh, but ultimately hopped up and disappeared to do as he'd been told (with the accompanying mental imagery to ensure he understood).

"Sorry," she said sheepishly to the young woman she was more accustomed to seeing in the kitchens, "He's very nosy."

A very irate little queen climbed out of Yunara's basket, hissing with wings spread. Avarice, who was more than normally possessive, had claimed the basket for her own. In fact, everything that was under Yunara's charge was Avarice's. "Sssssss," she informed Elibrie, her eyes whirling rapidly red. Rude!

"Avarice, no! She didn't do anything to the basket, and that little blue couldn't have taken it from you. Hush now," Yunara said, reaching down to scoop up the flit and place her on her shoulder. Not at all mollified by her mistress's words, the firelizard queen watched Elibrie with sharp, untrusting eyes.

With a sigh of her own, the girl shook her head. "No, it's all right. Firelizards can be such trouble. Mine's just as bad." Although she did have some well behaved flits, Avarice was not among them. Yunara picked up her mending again, surveying the damage that remained. With tiny, careful stitches, she worked to get the robe back up to Padmia's standards.

Though surprised when the little gold climbed out of the basket and fixed her with an angry gaze, Elibrie merely blinked at the tiny Queen, unphased by the display. Well, she did feel a little bad that Snoops had disturbed her, but she wasn't bothered by the territorial behavior. She simply re-focused her gaze on her work and went back to it.

"She reminds me a little of one of my boys. It's silly, but I thought for sure they'd all be perfectly sweet if you raised them just right, like Lullaby," she admitted, pausing to pat the blue beside her fondly. He chirruped and laid his head on her thigh, glancing sidelong at the gold who had taken such an issue with his bonded. His own eyes were still a calm blue-green, but he was watching. "Not that Snoops is terrible, but he just can't mind his own business."
