11. Ouch, ouch, ouch, and more ouch. When it rains it pours, or so the saying goes, and while some of your wingmates might be in relatively quiet airspace, the wind keeps kicking Thread into yours! While you and your dragon flame and charr the ancient enemy, it unfortunately doesn’t leave you unscathed.
Roll a D4 and see where the damage hits!
Your poor dragons face and neck are now going to be scored, along with one of their back legs. Ouch! Damage -5 HP
Your dragon’s wingsails are now sporting their first new burns and holes, and their shoulder now has a nasty gash that’s still weeping with ichor. Damage -4 HP
Your dragon winds up with some thread wrapped around their tail, but avoid being thrown into a larger patch by sheer luck. Damage -3 HP
You and your dragon are blown right into a large patch that wraps itself around you both. While you think jumping Between isn’t going to be an issue, the pain has you screaming in panic. The leathers you wear don’t seem to protect for long and you struggle to visualize where to go Between. Damage -10 HP and/or death if you choose either from wounds or getting lost Between. You may also KO yourself and fall from the sky to have an NPC gold pick you up and return you to the Weyr for treatment. You’ll be out the rest of the game though.



K'niel tried to shake off his panic and get his focus back, but it seemed that both he and Wahokinth had both been thrown off --- and they paid for it, in point of fact, as the wind picked up a large clump of thread and carried it toward them both.

They tried to wheel about and dodge it, but there wasn't any time to, and Wahokinth shrieked in pain as thread caught him along the face and neck, some of it even scoring deep into his right back leg even as he blinked Between.

Re-emerging, the blue was still shaken and quite a bit more unsteady in the air than he had been. I'm--- I'm alright, we can keep going, he told his rider. No way was he going to back down yet, not when the fight wasn't done yet!

Even after they'd reappeared, there was still a significant amount of the few strands that had broken through their flame left to clean up. Niselle focused herself and Uvaldoth on that task, guiding Hers through flaming down what little remained of the sheet that had made it through the gaps in the upper wings. And focused as she was, it took something significantly compelling to break her out of it.

Something like the shriek of a nearby dragon, and Uvaldoth's head jerking in the direction it had come from. She didn't need to look to know that the pair that had just jumped between had been K'niel and Wahokinth.

Wahokinth! Are you okay!?

Of course, there wasn't much time for Uvaldoth to get a response. They were being flagged down for firestone, so Niselle had to redirect her to make the toss before she could fuss over her brother more. But they had reappeared from between, and didn't seem to be dropping out of the skies, so that was something.

Wahokinth was still trying to steady himself, in pain as he was, and K'niel was torn between ignoring his protests that he was alright and taking him to get looked at --- he had threadscore on his face, and that was the sort of injury that you didn't want to take chances with --- and staying in the air long enough to see this through. I'm alright, I promise, it hurts but I'm not stopping yet!

They had been doing so well so far, after all! He was still wavering on what to do when he saw another weyrling about to take a hit and called out a quick "Watch out!" to warn them away from the danger.

Still, it seemed that the final few minutes of Threadfall were at last their moment to shine. Uvaldoth had been chewed up and spit out at the very beginning, unable to do much with her stamina other than to simply stay in the air and survive. And now that the fall was truly wrapping up and she'd found a spot in formation that the wind wasn't buffeting her, she was in her element.

There was the hot ash falling from flamed Thread, of course, but a few ash burns along her wingsails weren't going to stop her. She dove after every strand of Thread that came near her, twirling in the skies as she flamed each bit down. Firestone deliveries seemed to be easy for them - Niselle had yet to miss a single toss, and if she could get out of Threadfall with a record like that, she considered it a decent enough achievement.

While they'd struggled to find their place in the skies, once they did finally find it, she would be surprised if they hadn't caught anyone's eye.

If you’re a green whose adult size is 24’ or larger, blue, or brown 33’ or under, you do find yourself struggling through the stronger gusts but are able to fight it. Unfortunately, as you fight against the wind, you either find Thread blowing right into you or strain your muscles against the fight. You’re able to evade most of the damage,but it’s still a struggle. Damage: -3 HP.

If you’re a brown whose adult size is 34’ or larger or a bronze, you’ll fight against the wind but your strength and stamina allow you to pull through. You're able to play a bit of heroics and even manage to flame some Thread from one of your struggling fellows. Save Quote a wingmate and save them from damage!


Don't worry, I'm not going to give you a win that easily!

Despite the cocky statement, Wahokinth was visibly flagging, injuries sapping away and his strength the longer he stayed in the fight, and when a second gust of wind came at him he found himself struggling desperately to keep steady. It blew at him with enough force that as he beat his wings against it, it gusted enough to blow it back upon itself slightly, wrenching the muscle and drawing a pained yelp.

This wind is cheating! It's cheating! It ruined our competition from the start! Neither of us can win like this!

It's raining silver all around them, and while Argamath does his absolute best to take out as much of what's around them as possible, a few strands still find their way onto them. Ka'ia barked a short curse as one such sliver landed on top of his last score, bringing a fresh new wave of pain to the area--the cold of between threatened to knock the air out of his lungs, but he could at least be glad it was only a brief trip.
They only had to hold out just a little longer until they could finally rest, and that knowledge was what kept him going through the fatigue settling into his bones; then, the two of them could get cleaned up, properly treated at the healers', and bundled up in front of something warm.

17. You're blooded almost immediately by a large tangle of Thread. You suppose that's why it's called a First Blooding, after all. Damage Roll a D10 to see how much damage you take. The number represents the damage i.e a 4 would mean -4 HP.

So long as you're not knocked out by Thread, you're able to keep on fighting, though the pain is much stronger than you'd thought. Thankfully, your able to persevere and continue the fight. While a few more tangles get through, you don't take any further damage, and are able to help char Thread to harmless ash.

If you rolled an 8 or higher, you may suffer a bit of trauma from the experience. Perhaps it's the pain or perhaps it's simply fear of getting hit again, but you can feel yourself holding back. What's wrong? Isn't this your sworn duty? Trauma For the duration of Threadfall your damage is lessened by 2 hit points (i.e. If you were to take 3 damage you'd only take 1) but the remaining 2 hit points must be assigned to another weyrling as you didn't sweep up all the Thread out of fear or hesitation and some of it fell through. Quote a weyrling every time you take damage and give them the remaining 2. Encouragement can temporarily ease your trauma for one turn.


And just like that, all the thoughts of warm blankets and quiet comforts evaporated from his mind, erased by a white-hot bolt of agony. Ka'ia could only bite down on his tongue to keep himself from screaming, urging Argamath between once more as fast as possible--they were a bit more confident this time, now that they'd experienced this kind of pain before, but it still had Ka'ia's heart racing all the same. He felt--terrible, honestly, and he could tell that Argamath wasn't doing too hot, either.
A terrible thought began to enter his head, creeping in bit by bit. What if they died up here? What if they were hurt again, and with their current states in mind, it proved to be too much? Even worse, what if something he did got Argamath killed?

Ka'ia honestly felt as though his stomach was trying to invert itself. He clutched all the more tightly to his straps, shutting his eyes tight for the few moments they remained between--it was the only break he'd have before they exited, and he needed all the time he could get to collect himself.
What the hell had he been thinking earlier about how this was natural? He was going to get killed up here!
Not on my watch. Argamath didn't bother hiding his exhaustion from his mindvoice--Ka'ia already knew, besides. There was no point in maintaining appearances. We'll--make it through. Trust me.

Everything else passed in a blur, mindless action after mindless action. Ka'ia was moving on muscle memory and instinct, with Argamath nudging him back and forth as the stress on his injuries began to be almost too much--one bitten tongue here, another sore muscle there, and one last near-collision that had only been avoided due to reflexes. It wasn't exactly the most dazzling way to finish the Fall, but Ka'ia was past the point of caring about impressions at the moment. They were both all too happy to retreat back to the Weyr to lick their wounds, at least glad in the knowledge that no one had been properly downed today--even if it had been hard, they'd made it through.
We deserve--a whole day of sleep. And, just. So much numbweed.
We'll get the second for sure. As for the first--we'll have to see.

From the skillful hand of the healers, it wasn't that long for Cartujanth to have her wounds tended. There wasn't much longer.. she just had to hold on. Impatience and agitation tinged her eyes. She'd be scarred for certain, but she couldn't find it in herself to care about anything except the next batch of firestone to chew.

Brushing aside healers, Cartujanth took to the air. Her wings could work, the pain wasn't too terrible. She was ready as she would ever be! She pushed aside (most) of Urzoh's admonishments to take it easy on the way up. With a dive to prove just how fighting fit she was, she toasted thread with ease. She was doing as nature intended, cruising the skyline in formation. Urzoh, less enthused held tight to the riding straps making up for dragon's.. over enthuasim.

For this green, she really hadn't tired of adding a little spice to her threadfighting. Extra turns here, flitting her wings. Anything to show that she was still full of energy - that thread had not worn her down. Finding a proper rhythm Urzoh more easily stay comfortably seated as thread turned to dust around them. The bold green dove - seeing one of her clutch mates in danger. Maestoth! Watch out! Her brassy voice booming with warning. She worked to toast thread, to give them space to retreat.
