Round 3
Day 1: 3/3

Quote:

12-14. Firestone run! A weyrlings primary purpose, after all. Roll 1 D100. Evens are successful tosses that make their mark. Odds are botched tosses. It is assumed you make a successful throw afterwards but your pride is wounded. Additional flavor text is as as follows:
If you roll Odds in the 90s you’ve botched getting stone to the Weyrleader or Weyrsecond. You’re ruined.

Almost immediately there was another call for firestone --- from the Weyrleader. No pressure or anything, right? T'roi and Destrieth retrieved the sacks of firestone and flew up to where D'mon was fighting Thread, determined to be more careful.

He missed. Again.

The look on D'mon's face beneath the flight helmet told T'roi all he needed to know as he successfully made the second toss: that he was now seared in the mind of the Weyrleader and would likely be receiving some sort of admonishment once on the ground again. His shoulders slumped, despite Destrieth sending him feelings of support and positivity. He would just have to REALLY practice!

Round 3
Day 1: 3/3; Wingsecond roll

Quote:
3. Things seem relatively quiet. You do as you're told and follow the direction of your superiors. Not bad. But not a whole lot happens, either. Is this what being a leader's all about? Simply waiting...?

As far as being acting Wingsecond, T'roi thought, it couldn't be going more smoothly. He obeyed as orders came in from his superior, sending out orders to his fellow weyrlings with what he hoped was an air of confidence and leadership. Still, it seemed not that much different from regular Thread fighting: periods of waiting for something to happen, followed by seconds of frantic action. Though there seemed to be more of the former than the latter. Was this what it was like to be a leader? T'roi gave a wry smile. This, he could do -- and looked forward to doing in a fighting wing eventually.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, and more ouch. When it rains it pours, or so the saying goes, and while some of your wingmates might be in relatively quiet airspace, the wind keeps kicking Thread into yours! While you and your dragon flame and charr the ancient enemy, it unfortunately doesn’t leave you unscathed. Roll a D4 and see where the damage hits!

It would have been so easy for Uvaldoth to rise to the bait. Although Niselle wasn't privy to the conversation between the two dragons, she knew well enough by how the green's head whipped towards her brother just what barb he'd used. Which one of them had shelled first was one of the recurring points of contention between them - and perhaps to their misfortune, neither of their riders had been paying close enough attention to their egg to tell them for sure. In fact, most of the stands hadn't even noticed the twins hatch at all, for all they'd made such a fuss over it once they were out of their egg.

So the mystery of which twin was older, petty as the argument might have been, would remain.

Just because you're doing good now doesn't mean you're winning!

Niselle could feel Uvaldoth huff just from the way her neck expanded under her legs, and she rolled her eyes and gave the green's neck a fond pat. They needed to stay on their toes, after all. The wind seemed to be blowing in their direction, and it had already taken a few gouts of flame to clear room for them to breathe in their own airspa-

Uvaldoth! Watch out!

The cry had come just in the nick of time. So long spent in drills had Uvaldoth blinking Between, waiting only the half-second it took Niselle to realize what her dragon intended and why so she was able to provide a clear picture of a safe space for them to reappear. It was a close call - close enough that ash was still falling to the ground from the Thread Palouseth had flamed down to save them from when they reappeared.

Niselle immediately felt a swell of gratitude for her dragon's clutchmate - she had saved them from what could have been a rather terrible blooding. And she knew without even looking that the relief and appreciation were mirrored in Hers as well - and likely passed onto the green that had saved them.

Oh, Palouseth! Thank you! You really saved my hide!

Wahokinth was still doing well. Flaming thread and delivering firestone with nary a slip-up. He was at the top of his game and both rider and dragon felt a surge of pride in their accomplishments. At this rate they were definitely going to catch attention; how could they not when they were the best?

You just don't want to admit my victory! But keep telling yourself that, Uvaldoth; we'll see who wins by the end!

There was a moment he almost faltered, when it looked like Uvaldoth had a close call --- but no, no, she was fine. She was fine, which meant their competition was still on, and he was going to win. (Though that was a foregone conclusion, of course.)

Try to keep up, won't you? You're so slow today!

Quote:
18. You're doing great and feeling good! Though you wind up with a few small ashburns, and you're still feeling a little anxious, nothing has gone horribly wrong. When Thread gets close, you make your move and flame it away. When you're tapped to deliver firestone, you do so with no trouble. This isn't so bad... Not at all! You're feeling good, and that's what matters. You and your dragon surely are naturals, baby! Good job! You're certain the Weyrlingmaster's have noticed your natural skill. Gain +1 XP

Though they had practiced and prepared as much as they could while not up in the air actually fighting Thread, the not knowing was nerve-wracking to the little blue. He knew theoretically what his job was, his purpose, and how to accomplish it, but until they were in the air, there was no way to Know. And that caused him some serious anxiety...

Easy, Corde. Easy, Mine. It's ok. We have this.T'ry stroked the side of the blue's neck in comfort. This was not an easy task to ask, but it was theirs to do. It was their duty now. It was what the little blue was born to do. And he would realise this and remember. They just had to make it through their first Fall.

It seemed fairly routine. With nothing too big happening. And perhaps that caused him to not pay as much attention as he should but shardit, the Thread had not been there just a heartbeat ago. It shouldn't have been there then. Wasn't that patch part of the other's airspace. Wasn't it their job to get rid of it?

He felt the sharp pain as the Thread scored the tip of Cordeth's wing, and he winced in sympathy. They would be more vigilant now.

It's alright dear heart. We got this. And see, I'm not the only one who belives in you.

Cordeth spared a moment to send a wave of soft affection back to Cartujanth.Thank you sister.

Quote:
9. It’s all the little stuff that is causing you problems! One minute your airspace is clear, another minute you find it full of Thread. Where is your cover!? If you’re a bronze or brown rider, you can’t help but feel that the smaller colors aren’t doing their jobs in trying to keep your dragon safe. If you’re a white, green, or blue rider, you almost start to suspect the larger color you’re covering is just using you as some meat shield and not bothering to flame like they should. Whether it’s actually true, or paranoia from all the stress, you can feel your irritation levels rise. Aren’t you supposed to be on a team and work together? Ugh! Damage -3 HP.

Cartujanth's eyes narrowed with focus. This was it, she could do this. She could feel Urzoh's easy going confidence urging her onward as they stayed in well practiced formation. Her wings beat evenly at either side of her, besting puffs of wind, and keeping her and Urzoh safe from small puffs of ash.

It was AWESOME to feel practice become practical, for firestone toss to land perfectly. For her plume of flame to erupt just as the green weyrling imagined. Out of the corner of her vision, she caught the image of Cordeth getting a bit hurt.

Come on Cordeth! Just like we all practiced. We got this!

Riding high off of the quick save for Uvaldoth, Palouseth turned on quick wing to rise back to her place in formation. Training with Kourith and Cartujanth had paid off, and her ichor is thrumming in her veins. Whatever fears that had lingered in her mind were able to be cast off; she was born to fight thread, and it came natural to her as flying had been.

Palouseth, look -- Tuela's call came quick, and Palouseth turned to see ... a small clump of thread heading straight for her. The agile green turned and wheeled, and suddenly Tuelarua was holding every hope her straps held tight as she was suddenly below her dragon. Palouseth let out a mighty flame -- larger than needed for the little clump that had threatened her rider.

But to Palouseth's alarm, she realized that Destrieth was suddenly veering straight for her and her billow of fire. Bugling in alarm, Palouseth turned and curled with the wind, eyes a blinding flurry of yellow and white for her brother, as she turned to inspect his retreating form.

I hope I didn't get you hurt, Destrieth. Oh, she would never live it down....

The heavy wind worked in Cartujanth's favor. Almost perfectly pushing her to place, the gusts lifting her wings having her sail in the skies, weaving ash and flaming down swift clumps of thread. That was until a cloud of tangles headed right for them! Oh, no this would never do.. with a quick grunt Cartujanth urged her rider to hold on.

With an abrupt turn, Urzoh was holding on tightly, body testing the strength of the riding straps. A white knuckled hand patting her dragons beautiful hide. We're alright Cartujanth soothed as she righted herself.

There was a momentary blip of pride, as she soared back into formation once more. It wasn't much of a thought that thread was getting through, only the pride that she was able to help out her siblings and keep them just a bit safer. Wasn't that her job? A spry, quick green able to keep her larger wingmates safe.

But the trouble wasn't quite over, as another clump of thread threatened once more. Watch out--! Watching her wingmate, her sibling, getting blown back towards a large clump of thread, there's a moment of blistering panic as she realizes that it's Cartujanth. Watch out Cartujanth! Behind you! Palouseth wheeled and dove, the burst of fire from her mouth quick to sear the offending clump away before it could ever hurt her dear sister more than she had been hurt already.

She corkscrewed and twisted to get back into formation. If she could keep her siblings safe and keep searing thread? Happily would she do so.

She compensated on the second throw, with a far more muscle behind it. Cartujanth playfully chuckled to her as they again took their place in formation. Cordeth had managed to get his head back in the game. He and T'ry were doing well. They knew their job, and it was going well. The a brief instant of inattion and a searing PAIN along his face and neck and hind leg sent him immediately to seek the soothing cool of Between. Luckily, His realised what was happening as soon as it did, and with his steady confidence and calm, he made sure to project a safe destination so within one, two, three deep breaths and they were back where they belonged. In the fight.

Dear Heart, I know it hurts, but are you able to continue on? Though it physically pained him not to place a reassuring hand on the blue's neck, he could see the scoring that would likely hurt even worse once the adrenaline wore off and their duty was done, and he wasn't about to exacerbate the injury. He was more than ready to withdraw to the healer's if Cordeth showed even the slightest inclination of being unable to fight. This wave is almost done, and if you are not fit, there is no shame in.

This is our duty Mine the blue interrupted. He might not be as big or flashy or even as capable as some of his other siblings, but this he could do. This was his duty and his purpose, and he would not shirk. After all, when all was said and done, he was still a fighting dragon of High Reaches Weyr. As you say, it is almost done. There will be time enough when it is no longer our fight.
