It's the quieter, calm dusky evening that Palouseth was stretched out on her smaller ledge. Though normally one to curl into a small ball, tonight she was enjoying the sights and last dredges of daylight. Wings stretched wide, enjoying the warmth of the sun, the gentle play of the breeze. Yet she stood, stretching her body and giving her wings a gentle flex. The time was coming, and though she knew the one she wanted to chase her would not be amongst the crowd, she could no longer deny what instinct demanded. It was only a flight, what did it matter in the long run?

For the past month, Tuelarua had been expecting this to eventually come. She had been taught about flights, on what to expect, what to look for. Uvaldoth had been the first to rise, but it wasn't until Cartujanth had taken to the skies and Palouseth had only watched her dear sister from her ledge that Tuela had kept a closer eye on Palouseth. But the last few days had been proddy, fussy, but above all, her spotted hide was almost luminescent. The weyrling had enjoyed having Rahmsii closer, and humoring her in her own nesty, touchy feelings. Their night had been one for kind conversation and watching firelizards play. Her fingers stalled in his long hair, feeling that slow rush of feelings through their bond. She'd been at High Reaches Weyr for turns now, and knew what flightlust was like with gold flights. But so intimately through their bond was.. different. Palouseth?

But the only answer she received was a swell of warmth and love -- a promissory note before Palouseth took to the skies. Tuela could only smile, urging her dragon to fly well, and fly safe, before pulling her own mate in for a kiss.

Wings beat idly, as she took a lap around the weyrbowl. The joy of wind under her wings, to feel so free and weightless, Palouseth hardly remembered to call her suitors. The sky is so lovely tonight. She remarked, twirling with confidence she ordinarily lacked. Why not race me in the twilight? For she desired not colorful prose and glitter-crusted promises, but a race in the sunset? That sounded much better.

-----

Palouseth is one of the shyest amongst her siblings, but determined to be one of the hardest workers. Though she may be passive about most things in life, Palouseth is more unflappable when not ducking out of her shy nature, taking life as it comes at her and Hers one day at a time.
Positive Traits: Unflappable, Reliable, Intelligent
Negative Traits: Shy, Passive, Self-Sacrificing

Tuelarua will be preoccupied for the flight, and thus unavailable.

Small rules!
  • All colors welcome to chase! This includes NPCs, but please only HR dragons.
  • Each round will be 48 hours. The flight will be three rounds.
  • Once round 1 starts, no more late entries. Sorry! Better luck next time.
  • If all chasers roll and fill out their posts before the initial 48 hours is up, the next round will continue.
  • If a post is rolled but not filled out, the count is halved. If no rolling is made that round, the round is a 0 but a suitor is not out!
  • If a suitor rolls over Palouseth's roll, no matter the difference, they're only marginally ahead of her. If they roll lower, they're only just behind.

How to Win
1. Roll the exact same final score as Palouseth is an insta-win!
--1a. In the rare case that there is a tie for her final score, the winner will be rolled.
2. If insta-win is not achieved, a winner will be rolled from the three closest scores.

Rahmsii enjoyed indulging Tuela's nesting. The soft happiness that came with long held hands and quiet conversations late into the night, no matter the tiredness that pressed on them from lessons. Their flits chasing and chattering, a sweet music to the graying evening.

It was a..relief to know where these certain feelings stood. He was no fool to how Palouseth's hide slowly started to gleam and that those of her clutch begin to rise. The warmth, the ever so slight clinginess was such a balm to the worry that had needled him.

That dragon in Flight could mean many things for such tentative romance. One that had been carefully danced around as Palouseth grew. And would he have been forgotten in these moments that weren't fully shared? He felt silly now for ever worrying about such things.

Perhaps in the future, if chance and luck were kind, his own dragon might chase Palouseth through the sky. It was no great feeling of sadness, so much as a private hope. One only held tightly to his chest, unspoken. Closer than Tuelarua in his arms and the press of their beating hearts.

Cartujanth had been freshly bathed, and just was just finished being oiled. Urzoh's arms were positively aching by the end. The little green gleamed with handsomeness. It was all well and good to sit still and be fussed over, but when Palouseth's words echoed through her. All bets off. Not a CHANCE for Cartujanth to stick put for something as trivial as grooming. Not when there was a race to win.

Cartujanth leapt of her ledge with enthusiasm, kicking up a great gust. Earning herself a gentle laugh from Urzoh. The rider knew her beast well enough, they were never the deferent sort to seek permission and Urzoh knew her dragon would flysafe. With a gentle wave of affection from Cartujanth, Urzoh closed the door to her weyr knowing her mate Ahula would welcome her with open arms.

Cartujanth trumpeted her arrival, flying in low lazy circles around the weyrbowl. She craned her head upward admiring Palouseth’s glide. Good form! Quick turns! So much different from they were stumbling through their flying lessons. I think you got a lot faster from the last time we raced! She kicked her feet in the air, ready to soar at a moments notice. Think I can keep up?

Like some creature from the depths of the sea finally cresting the surface, Kourith’s head rose from where it lay on the cool stone of his ledge. This interest hadn’t been there when his other sisters had risen, hadn’t stirred like a raging torrent when other greens had roared into the sky in all the months since his hatching. Palouseth was certainly lovely in the glowing way that all greens could be, but the pale blue wouldn’t have registered any real interest in a dragon that was already taken in her hearts unless she’d spoken exactly as she had.

Race.

From where she’d been lazing, blankets tossed over her lithe form to stave off the uncomfortably cool nights that fall brought to the Weyr, Verica sat bolt upright and tilted her head in an almost feline manner. Naturally she’d been taught what it would mean for a green to rise, how flights worked and that her blue might have the desire to chase someday. Someday. The teenager hadn’t realized it would be so soon though she certainly couldn’t deny him in any way. No, Kourith wouldn’t even have that, truthfully. But if all that he wanted was the race and cared so little for the hearts of the green involved…

I’m certainly no cad, you act as though I’d not show her a good time in the absence of her own heart’s choice. Palouseth was the one that offered a race, one that I intend to win. Kourith had already risen from where he’d been lying, his wings stretching as his eyes twisted and glowed different shades of red, orange, and the barest hints of purple. No, he was no replacement for what his sister wanted but he would race her to the ends of the stars if that was her wish, if she pushed him. Palouseth, Palouseth, glowing brighter than the moon this evening. This might not be our first race sister but it will be the best remembered for your glowing form leading it.

Kourith wanted to win.

Veri’s hand ran down the softly dappled hide of his tail as the blue took off from his ledge into the sky, a bugle of challenge erupting from him, and she wrapped the blankets tighter about herself. “Well, there goes my restful night.” She tossed the blankets aside and went to find a different sort of warmth.

Kourith ~ A rakish dragon to be certain, he’s brand new to chasing but not to racing, he’s been running his mouth and racing his siblings since the moment he came out of his egg. Sometimes both at the same time! Perfectionist at heart, Kourith wants to do everything right the first time and he thinks he’s Faranth’s gift to Pern in regards to his skills with flying. It seemed to both Simariath and Fi'don to be a fairly average evening. They'd finished up training for the day, had oiled Simariath's bright hide, had dinner, and were now tucked up nice and comfy in their weyr. Simariath was lounging on the ledge, soaking in the last few drops of sunlight, while her rider was sitting cross-legged on his bed fussing with some wooden puzzle he'd bought a few days ago that was proving to be more difficult to untangle than he'd thought it would be. That was no matter, of course. Fi'don loved puzzles and any that could stump him for a few days was one he thoroughly enjoyed.

They did bore Simariath a bit, though. Whenever Fi'don found something like this to entertain himself he'd fall silent, focusing on his new toy, leaving Simariath to waste away by herself. Usually he figured them out pretty quickly but when it took him a few days of free time the green was left bored on her ledge.

Tonight, though, it seemed there would be a perfect distraction.

Out in the bowl a small green began to circle, her mindvoice calling out to the weyr at large. Simariath perked up at the invitation to race, though it was for the prospect of a flight rather than the 'verbal' offer. The sudden change in her demeanor and the purple quickly overtaking her eyes made Fi'don shudder on his bed, the change so fast it drew him away from his puzzle. He was used to Simariath rising and chasing frequently but he never got used to the wave of flightlust when it wasn't a gradual thing.

I shall return, dear Fi'don. Perhaps with a maiden in tow.

"Good luck," he replied with a little smile and a chuckle, watching as Simariath gracefully tipped over the edge of the ledge, wings snapping open as she glided down to the height of the rising dragon. He gave a little sigh and set his puzzle aside: even though it was what he wanted to do tonight, there was no way he'd be able to focus on it with the sensations running through his body as they were. No, tonight would be a little more physical. He slid his shoes back on and decided a walk would be best. Perhaps he'd find one of other riders whose dragon had joined in the flight.

Reaching the lower depths of the Bowl, Simariath noticed the other suitors were, thus far, Palouseth's siblings. It felt a bit odd to be one of the largest dragons in a situation, but the bright green didn't let that phase her as she called out to the lucky lady who would rise shortly.

A beautiful night that pales in comparison to you, Palouseth. How could I say no to one who gives so much to others on her maiden flight? You shall have everything you wish this evening, my dear.

---

Simariath: A dragon who loves love, Simariath willingly gives her hearts to anyone who asks for them, whether it's just for a moment or for something a little more long term. She can be a jealous green if she sees someone else stepping on 'her' territory which usually is in regards to her rider, but if she's got her little talons hooked into a specific dragon it can apply to them as well. At the end of the day she is a loving, thoughtful dragon who would be happy to catch Palouseth or one of her rejected suitors.

Fi'don: Warm-hearted and friendly, Fi'don enjoys staying out of the limelight and supporting his friends and family from the shadows. He makes an effort not to cause a scene and enjoys flying under the radar of both good and bad attention. He keeps to himself but not because he's introverted or despises company, but rather because he simply enjoys doing things on his own. He's bisexual and will happily spend the night with anyone who'd like him to.

There’s a brief moment where Palouseth’s confidence wavers -- for what if no one truly showed? Was she to truly fly by herself? But it’s a notion that’s quickly kicked away, a bad thought that held no ground here -- not when she spies the speeding comet that was her beloved sister. Cartujanth received a wash of bright warmth, a pleased croon that she had joined. I’ve been practicing! You’re so good at racing, I needed to work hard to keep up. For she had, it wouldn’t do to lag behind, after all. A light laugh as she watched her restless movements, affectionate and sweet. I think you can -- you were always faster than me, anyway.

The second chaser to join them called from his ledge, and though his initial call surprised her, there was no less affection for her dear brother Kourith, either. For he was her other sibling that pushed her to do better, to be stronger, to be faster. That he would race amidst the golden hour only served to please her more. A different sort of first, dear brother. But one I have no doubt you can give fierce competition to. Would he be the one to win? Only time would tell, certainly. Yet his bugle of challenge is met with a trumpet of her own, curling to turn…

But a third challenger had approached. Though Palouseth was more comfortable and knowledgeable of her own clutchmates, the older green’s presence was met with a soft croon. She’d certainly not turn down a racer, especially one with such grace and beauty as Simariath. Her mental tongue twisted for a moment, struggling. Romance was never her strong suit, and though she didn’t see much romance in this instinct-driven flight, she’d hate to give such a bad impression to such a lovely lady. Your words flatter me, Simariath. I cannot wait to see how fast you fly. Perhaps you’ll show us the true flying strength of a fully fledged dragon of High Reaches.

Good company? A promise of a fine race? A flight amidst my favorite time of evening? I have so much already, and such wonderful dragons to potentially win. Oh, they were wonderful on each of their own merits. But there can only be one winner, and that was to come after the chase. Shall we? The sunset awaits.

With a hard strike of her wings, Palouseth shot up into the air. Her wings beat easy and free, craving the open sky, to carve a race path that her wonderful suitors would enjoy. Her goal was the stone spires that towered over the Weyr, her wings able to carry her lithe form with ease.

Simariath gave a little trill of amusement at Palouseth’s slightly unsure tone to her voice, but she sent a wave of reassurance to the younger green to let her know she found it endearing, not off putting. A moment later and they were off, three dragons chasing the green streak before them.

Simariath wasn’t the fastest dragon out there but she could hold her own with the majority of greens. From the sound of it these three enjoyed racing, so hopefully she’d be able to keep up.

If it’s a race you want, shining Palouseth, it’s a race you shall have! I only hope you’ll take into consideration the saying slow and steady wins the race.

Fi’don glanced up as he made it to the Bowl, watching the dragons circle before Palouseth shot up into the sky. He was pleased to see Simariath keeping up pretty well, only lagging just a bit. Before long they were just specs in the sky, leaving him to finding his own partner for the evening.

The green tilted her head upward, watching delightedly. Palouseth was turning and maneuvering with such lovely ease. It was easy to be distracted as she cut through the air. Oh! Oh wait! They were going! Cartujanth mentally shook herself. The colors of sunset and soft green hide fading under determination. Flapping her wings a bit aggressively to start to build up momentum. She'd have to work hard to keep up. She snapped her jaw in determination - she would keep up shardit.

For the briefest of moments the purple in his eyes flooded out all other colors and then he noticed that he was going to face the race with not only one green sister but another green lady. The oranges and red of competition rushed back in but never fully lost that purple desire. Palouseth was a very pretty green and by Faranth he was a racer and wanted to win, he could do both. The blue flexed his wings a bit and he arced into the air after the spotted and swirled beauty.

The green that had mentioned slow and steady somehow pulled ahead of him and it spurred him into fighting harder. Every race has a winner but this shall have two as they fall with the sun. He wanted it to be himself and Palouseth that fell together and Kourith turned his focus to picking up speed.

It was a bit of a headrush to be so focused on that particular need of her dragon and Verica stumbled just a bit coming down the stairs, catching herself somewhat gracefully as she made it to the bottom in the Bowl. Her eyes turned skyward to watch Kourith disappear along with the three greens he chased and raced. Despite the distance it felt like they were just as close as ever and she cast a glance around to find someone to spend this with.

There’s a deep thrum of pleasure that runs through Palouseth, with nothing but the wide open sky before her and the thrill of a race in her blood. Flightlust only made her wings strike the air harder, to push on until her wings would no longer carry her. Her stamina was limited, but it didn’t stop her from wanting to fly ever on. But that she had pulled ahead of her suitors was but a trickle of amusement, for she ordinarily would have pulled back to let such spirited chasers go ahead… But now? Now she was driven ever forward.

The wave of reassurance had Palouseth thrumming, emboldened by Simariath’s cheer and looking a mite more confident for it. Yet she turned to look at the lovely pale green, her eyes glittering with delight and flightlust in a warring swirl. Speed is all well and good, but so is not burning all stamina at once. Slow and steady could certainly outlast speedy and quick. But for all that her siblings and she were quick and speedy, there was more to be said about the experience of knowing to save stamina -- and Palouseth would never disregard the possible dark horse.

A soft touch of amusement as Palouseth crooned to Cartujanth, for they were going. She was behind, but not by much -- and Palouseth couldn’t have asked for better competition. Distracted, dear Cartujanth? But her tone was warm, almost teasing -- confidence in full form for her flight.

Kourith was only just behind her, and Palouseth was delighted to the fact; she’d pushed herself ever harder to keep up with her blue brother. I win with such fierce competitors, no matter who ultimately wins. Oh, if there was a way for all three of them to win… But then, it wouldn’t truly be a race, would it?

Her body twisted and turned, avoiding grazing the stone spires with ease. Her wings tucked before beating hard -- taking off towards the mountains. The sun was still warm on her hide, as she cast back a shimmering touch of affection for all three of her suitors. You’re all so wonderful, but there can only be one. I cannot wait to see who it will be. For she had more stamina to give and wasn’t quite ready to let herself be caught just yet.

Simariath knew how to ration her limited stamina as a green that had been fighting Thread for a decent number of Turns now, and the same applied to a chase. Going all-in right at the start was silly, you had to save some energy for later! But it seemed the whole group was doing well in keeping up once they got going and even Simariath felt the surge of adrenaline amid the flightlust that a competition drew. Even if she wasn't the biggest fan of races, a flight always held an element of pitting oneself against other dragons. The green or gold rising always picked the winner, of course, but you had to impress her.

Simariath kept up easily with the maneuvers Palouseth exhibited around the craggy rocks, wings pulling in sharply to avoid catching herself and slowing her down. Years of drills and training had her in top shape to hopefully impress the young green and she gave a trill of delight as they headed for the mountains.

Nor can I, though I do hope it's me. I must say this flight is far more invigorating than any I can recall. Usually it was fairly simple - show off and hope for the best. But here, with the added race element, it made it more fun. Simariath wasn't one to try to best others in terms of speed or strength for she knew she wasn't the fastest nor strongest, but a flight was anyone's game.

Despite Palouseth's sweet words the blue was being outflown by the older green chasing and he knew it. Even though he was mostly in this flight for the race there was also that desire to win for lustful reasons, a fully new emotion and desire than he'd ever felt before and it was urging him on. Though he couldn't help but cast a glance at his two green competitors when the race started, now his glowing purple eyes were for Palouseth alone as she mentioned any winner making her happy.

Well he'd try all the harder then, push himself to his limits if he had to.

With ease he followed her twisting route, tucking his wings where he needed to and pushing them harder where the spires allowed. Kourith shot forward as they headed towards the mountains where he'd always wanted to fly and race. His words failed him as he watched Palouseth fly and he leaned into her words almost bodily as she wrapped them around him. Verica's mind pulled back on him ever so slightly so he didn't lose himself, lose her as well as she wandered, her mind with her dragon far away in the sky.

Distracted? Cartujanth? Never. the green playfully winked, hopefully to cover her embarrassment of falling behind. Her eyes whirled purple, casting a hopeful glance in Palouseth's direction as she urged herself to. She'd need to need to work just a little bit harder if she was ever going to vie their lovely attention. In her haste, her wing fouled in the buffet - easily corrected but afforded herself some time. Cartujanth wasn't usually so.. so clumsy. Hopefully, no one would quite notice.

She just needed to work harder. Her muscles sang with the effort, pushing herself to stay in formation. The green averted her gaze form the competition - she couldn't afford to focus on anything but the Palouseth's glow in the morning sun.

Diiiiid I forget about Palouseth's flight with all the moving stuff going on?
Sure did.
Sorry Palouseth.

A pleased ray of sunshine was only just for Simariath, like a dancing little light. I cannot wait to see who wins, but I’m delighted you’re having fun as well. And oh, wasn’t the beauty in friendly competition? To have fun no matter what? But there was a prize to win at the end, and Palouseth wouldn’t deny that the older green had won her favor just as Kourith and Cartujanth had. Simariath had pulled out ahead of her, and Palouseth did all she could to dance around an edge.

Kourith’s silence had her curiously tucking around, though only to make certain Kourith hadn’t fallen behind -- and the mild delight to see him right on her tail. He was more the athlete than she could ever be, but to see she had managed to stay ahead of him, even just barely, was a bonus. But there was no doubts that Kourith was putting his all in as his words fell away, and Palouseth could only give him that same respect. If he were to win, the prize should be worth it, and Palouseth tucked and curled around a tighter corner.

A soft giggle, as Palouseth cast a glance back to Cartujanth. Though there’s a moment of worry as their wing fouled. But no, her fierce, strong sister pulled through -- just as she knew she would. Though a mite behind her other suitors, it was no excuse to count Cartujanth out. Good, because we’re reaching the finish line.

It was more than that, for Palouseth didn’t have the best stamina, but her wings were aching, burning with each downbeat. Yet the little green pushed on, radiating warmth for all her dear competitors. They had all done so well, but who would it be to claim the prize of first place? The final sprint to the end! Who will be the one to claim the prize? Turning sharp, Palouseth gave her final push up into the air. Past the rocky crags and cliffs, until there was only open sky and the clouds above.

Being a green as well, Simariath was feeling fatigued and could only imagine how Palouseth was doing. She needed to save just a bit of her strength in case she was chosen as the winner. They didn't need to go falling to the ground after all.

Finally Palouseth pitched upward, straining for the sky. Simariath followed, her wings burning but her hearts pounding harder to keep up.

You've flown so well, Palouseth. Come, rest in my claws. I'll see us to the ground safely. They were all in need of a rest after this flight, but Simariath hoped she'd be sharing a ledge or wallow with the young green they were all chasing.

Fi'don was still milling about in the bowl and could tell the flight was coming to a close with the way Simariath's hopes were soaring. Everyone he'd seen looked busy, but just then he caught sight of a young woman with a similar gleam in her eye that seemed to say she was on the hunt for someone to share an evening with. Perhaps her dragon was also up there chasing.

He diverted his path to meet her, recognizing Verica once he got closer. She'd just recently Impressed at the last hatching and surely her blue was up there stretching his wings. He wasn't sure if she'd recognize him - they'd never really formally been introduced and he didn't go out of his way to be known - but the Weyr was only so big.

"Hey," he said with a little grin as he came into her line of view. "Is Kourith up there chasing?"
