Physical Description: Of average height and build, Otra is fair complected with freckling all over her skin. She has grass green eyes ringed by long, tangled lashes and masses of curly, bronze-brown hair that she keep in an unruly ponytail. The skin of her hands is rough and scarred from working fishing nets since she was a wee child.
Personality: Otra wants nothing more than to experience all life has to offer, regardless of how potentially big and scary it might be. In fact, the more it might scare other people makes it all the more irresistible to her. And everyone needs a steadfast adventure companion, right? Once Otra has made a friend, it is for life and possibly beyond. She is incredibly loyal to those she cares for, often going out of her way to help cheer them up or threaten violence against those who done wronged them. Anything to make sure her loved ones are safe and happy. She hates to see anyone or anything suffering. Often to the point where friends have phsically blocked her from a distressing scene just so Otra can avoid having her heart broken. She is a frequent volunteer when it comes to anything involving children and animals. And it is not at all unusual for her to drop everything to help someone. In fact, Otra is exactly the type of person who you would expect to find out in the rain trying to save abandoned puppies or opening her home to random people so they can have a nice warm up.
For all of her kindness and care however, Otra can still fly off the handle and react without letting logic or rationality into the picture. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, the littlest of things can set her off to the point of refusing to listen to the sound of anything beyond her own indignation. And if you manage to get on Otra's bad side, good luck ever getting off of her s**t list. Otra holds on to grudges and perceived slights the way a miser holds onto gold. It doesn't even matter if somewhere along the line she forgives you in her deepest heart. Her inability to release a grudge, even after years, means that you will forever be shunned, glared at and trash-talked. Then, there is her habit of never taking personal responsibility for her own bad decisions. She learned early at the feet of a Master (her grandmother) how to be a victim of Fate. Nothing that goes wrong is ever her fault, so why would she ever take responsibility for anything? Certainly her successes are all of her own making, but her mistakes and poor judgment calls are always someone else's fault! That's just science!

History: Born and bred within the Fishercraft Hall in Tillek, Otra was on a boat since she was a baby and helping with nets and longlines from the time she was 4 or 5. She expected to follow in her parents footsteps and attain mastery within the craft once she was grown up. Her deep and abiding love of the sea and boats insured that it wouldn't be an unpleasant path. When she came of age to do so, she was apprenticed to a friend of her father's, a rough but kindly Captain who showed her every trick he knew when it came to the seas of Pern and the creatures within.
She spent three happy Turns within her chosen craft when her Master and her Parents accepted a commission to sail a load of goods down to Western Hold for a gather. After having wandered the Gather and shortly before the ship had to prepare to leave, a Search dragon noticed her and his rider went to work at convincing Otra to stay in the Weyr. While he painted a fascinating picture, the girl requested time to return to her family and discuss the dragon's interest. The rider cheerfully agreed. Once back at the ship, her Master assured her that it was a great honor to Stand and her parents good-naturedly agreed and promised the girl that the seas would always be there for her should a dragon not Impress to her. Thus reassured, Otra bid her family and Master farewell and went to the Weyr with the Rider.
Adapting to Weyrlife wasn't easy, but Otra managed and considered herself lucky to be in a Weyr so near the seas she loved. She's stood for multiple clutches during her two Turns in the Weyr and she remains cheerfully hopeful regardless of the ultimate outcome. Her family came through the first Fall intact and knowing that they are out there, surviving, gives Otra the resolve she needs to see this dragon business through.
