{PRP} Private Hatching {R'iz/Bossuth + Nala}

Nalacko tried not to stagger as she left the dinning hall. Her belly so full of delicious food. She'd eaten as much as she could, even with sharing with her firelizards, she was stuffed! All she wanted now was a good nap before chores. Her greens were nearly as bloated in the belly as she felt. She chuckled at Triangle trying to fly through the air and only managing to bob along. The other riding smartly on her shoulders.

A green flit came speeding around a corner, nearly tumbling poor Triangle. It became obvious the green was looking for her when she flew up to Nala humming. The teen looked at her curiously. "What it is?" Was that..... Mint? Vine took up the hum on her shoulder. That wasn't just any humming, Nala realized! It was what they used when eggs hatched.

Eggs hatching? Or egg? R'iz's egg! The teen let out a joyous woop and raced towards the rider's weyr. She was coming! Vine took off from her shoulder and the greens flew excitedly ahead of her.

Indeed, Mint, ever the loyal and hard working green fire lizard, had come in search of Nalacko at R'iz's behest. Her tiny little green wings beat furiously as she went in search of her, occasionally popping in and out of Between in her, somewhat scatterbrained, search. She was only a tiny fire lizard after all! But she was never one to give up on a duty given to her by her bonded person and once she'd pulled up abruptly in front of Triangle, Mint squawked brightly, the dark little spines on her head flicking in excitement as she lead the way back to her home weyr.

To his credit, Bossuth was still amused that they had even bothered to send the little green one when he could simply have gone to get Nala himself, it seemed it might have been faster after all. However he only lounged instead, accepting that a fire lizard guide for a fire lizard hatching was appropriate, especially given that dragons always summoned those for dragon hatchings. Really it was far more interesting to stay and watch R'iz be concerned about everything, his hands resting on the egg with jerky in his lap to try and plan what he would do whenever the little thing hatched.

You're too concerned. Well I don't want it to hatch before Nala gets here either do I? It will be fine, she's on her way. The redhead was all nerves and jitters hoping that he hadn't been too late asking Mint to go find Nalacko.

Nala followed the tiny green faster and faster until she was sprinting through the halls, much to the dismay of some when she nearly collided with them. She shouted an apology, but ran on. Her eyes focused on the green leading her way. The humming of the trio of greens only made her run faster.

She burst into the bronzerider's room panting for breath. "R'iz! Bossuth! I'm here! Did it hatch yet?" Nala bent over with her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. Vine and Triangle flitted over to find perches so they could watch the egg and hum.

Still sitting cross legged before the egg, hands on it, R'iz was listening for footsteps that came beating down the hallway and sighed with relief when the door burst open and Bossuth gave a welcoming noise, quieter since he'd snaked his great head into the weyr itself. Worry not, you've missed nothing but the nerves of hoping you'd make it here first. He kept the link open to both of them just so that he could hear his Radish snort as he took his hands off and scooched over.

"It just started wiggling!" I've only ever come across freshly hatching or hatched fire lizards before, so this is a first." R'iz admitted with a nervous grin. Mint and Phin both chattered and trilled at the two fire lizard visitors that had blown in, though the little blue was doing so by flying around excitedly. It seemed both also understood what was about to happen and were showing their joy beforehand as the egg in front of the redhead began to rock back and forth slightly.

She'd made it! Nala breathed deeply in relief even as her excitement for the imminent hatching grew. Her greens flew to perches as they began to hum in earnest. The teen gave Bossuth a quick nose rub as she moved to stand beside his head. While she wanted to watch, she didn't want to get too close and ruin the moment for R'iz to impress. This was his firelizard after all.

"Oh good!" Nala watched eagerly. "Do you have the meat ready?" She looked around for the bowl that should be nearby. "You'll do great R'iz." Vine fanned her wings at the other firelizards, this was an exciting time! Nala couldn't wait to see what color her little darling had given one of her best friends.

A hum of happiness left Bossuth as Nala rubbed his nose and he pulled his head back so that it was only just in the entrance. The sun felt nice on the still healing wounds down his neck and stretching too much still stung more than he wanted to admit. R'iz had to fight the urge to go and reapply some new bandages to his beloved dragon as the egg began to rock even harder in front of him, nearly spinning.

"This isn't nearly as intimidating as Impressing to Bossuth was, but a little more intimidating than say, that blue idiot." R'iz pointed up at Phin where he was squawking a little song, utterly oblivious to what was going on while Mint was dancing in excitement around Vine. His attention was drawn back to the egg abruptly when it lurched and rolled out of the area it had otherwise been relegated to. With a yelp he grabbed it and, while holding it in his hands, a crack shattered down one side. "Here we go. Luckily I brought some jerky for Boss."

Nala moved to stand beside Bossuth's head. They were just bystanders in this. It was still exciting! She tried to keep her fidgeting down. R'iz had seemed so happy about it. Did he really want another firelizard? Was she wrong to just assume he'd accept one from her green? What if he didn't like the color? What if the baby didn't like him and flew away? She was going to fret herself into a sweat!

She laughed softly at Phin who was squawking. Poor little blue, but he was adorable in his way. Vine danced in place as she continued to hum. She would celebrate with Mint! The tiny egg gave a lurch and had the rider scrambling. Nala held her breath as one side of the egg shattered. It would be coming out any moment now! "Oh good!" At least he had something right?

Sensing Nalacko's concerns coming off in waves, Bossuth tilted his head a bit so that it was pressed against her side, his eyes a calming blue. Do not concern yourself with 'what if' thoughts little one. You've made him very happy Nala. Though the bronze knew full well that he was beloved before everyone else in his rider's heart, R'iz still loved his fire lizards as well. They had helped him and loved him unconditionally when he'd needed them before Bossuth himself had hatched and begun to fill that need, but Mint still slept with the redhead even now, Phin sometimes as well. To add a third would certainly make him quite happy.

From within the egg came a loud squawk and the top blew off entirely to reveal a small brown head with fiercely red eyes that peered around the room. One eyebrow raised on R'iz's face and he tilted the egg a bit so that it balanced in his left hand, right hand holding out some jerky for the angry little brown. "Hey buddy, was your shell giving you a lot of trouble for you to have those red eyes?" The brown's head tilted to look at him for a moment, then at Nala and Bossuth before lunging forward violently and gobbling at the strips of jerky proffered to him. Hisses and grumbles came from the dark winged little fire lizard as he ate and that elicited a chuckle from the rider despite himself.

"Someone's gonna be ornery." It was hard to explain what it felt like to have a fire lizard bond with someone, but R'iz could feel it anyway, as could the other two and his bronze, for their behaviors changed slightly, far more excited than they had been a moment before. But he could also feel the irritation from the little brown lizard and he felt like laughing more. "Very ornery."

Nala leaned into the bronze's reassuring presence. She chuckled and wiped a tiny tear away. "Thank you Bossuth. You are too good for me." She gave a little kiss to the top of his head. "Our little secret," she whispered.

The firelizard made his explosive entrance with a loud squawk as the top of the shell flew off. A healthy brown! And hungry by the look of things. She knew all too well from her two greens. "Don't let him nibble your fingers," Nala laughed as he voraciously devoured the meat.

"I wouldn't have guessed." Amused irony dripped from her words. Amazing that just a feisty little brown could have come from her sweet little green. Maybe she should blame the dad? Nala was delighted R'iz seemed so taken by the little brown. "He is a treat! Congrats R'iz! What do you think you'll call him?"

Suffusing Nalacko through with a soft care, Bossuth let his head rest beside her once more, headknobs nearly to her shoulders where she sat and he simply watched in quiet amusement. He would keep all of the girl's secrets just as he kept his Radish's secrets and all of Shar's as well. He offered only love in return for the trust that they placed in him, love and respect.

"Nah, he wants meat he can eat, not my fingers. No worries there." R'iz grumbled a little but there was laughter in there too as he fed piece after piece to the hungry lizard. Eventually the wave of it's hunger ended and it belched a small curl of smoke and flopped on the redhead's knee. Well, it seemed it's anger at least had abated for now, since it's eyes were bright green before closing to snooze.

Rubbing his head, the rider glanced at Nala and chuckled. "Seems that was anticlimactic. But at least he's sleepy now instead of getting violent in any way." Above them Mint and Phin had settled to watch, their necks stretched out curiously and their small eyes whirling. "I think I'll call him Armor." R'iz said thoughtfully after a few moments of thought. "Dunno if he'll be protective but he'll be enough that if he's with me he'll keep others away with that grumpiness."

Bossuth snorted out a chuckle of his own.

It didn't take long before the little brown was finally satisfied. Hatching over, Nala gave a contented sigh. She was happy the egg had hatched a healthy flit, and a brown to boot. It was the best gift she could have given him.

"Hehehehe, anticlimatic? Just wait until he wakes up again!" She tilted her head, and then nodded. "Armor. I like it." She smiled at the newly bonded pair. "Well he won't keep me away. I'll let you three get settled." After a last look, the teen headed out.
