Theo had been a terrible friend, really. He grew more and more sure of it each and every day, but the thought wasn't enough to force his hand, to coax him into taking steps to rectifying it. Poor Sylfie, wonderful, kind, caring Sylfie! And Hes! Glorious, dignified, generous Hes! They both had invited him into their home, their Weyr, offered him their time and attention in return for his company (poor though it was, he was sure)... and he'd barely been to visit them at all!

Of course, the goldrider's initial invitation probably hadn't accounted for their guest impressing a baby dragon—who would make plans that could expect that!—but still. He'd let himself get so caught up in the wonder of it all, the magic of the moment (and it really had been a magical thing, he'd woke up weeping that the most beautiful dream he'd ever known was over more than once, and been shocked to find Iweth still beside him) and thrown himself into all the training he'd imagined would come with being a rider, and which he half-knew already from his research and writing. He felt like he had turns' worth of work to catch up on, as if Iweth might realize he'd made a mistake in choosing him if he could not be the very best rider he could be.

It'd been some time to shake off that fear, and by then the guilt of having forsaken so much of his social duties left him crippled with inaction. He hadn't even sent a proper thank you note to them! He was absolutely certain, despite Regory's continued happy reception any time he'd ventured to their weyr for a snack or petting, that he had all but destroyed what respect they must have had for him by then. If they'd never wanted to speak to him again, he would quite understand, although a strange throbbing had taken root in his chest at that thought, and he'd had to quickly blink away an odd stinging about his eyes.

Of course, if nothing else Sylfie and Hes deserved a full and formal apology for his atrocious behavior, and the chance to dismiss his company in a private setting where the eye of the Weyr would not be upon any of them. It was the least he could do now, so many months later that his approach to their ledge was done atop Iweth's broadening back and not by the stairs within the stone tunnels. He'd gone a step beyond as well, and clutched a tightly bound sheaf parchment to his chest, meant for the female rider pair... though again, if their choice was to throw it back in his face, he supposed he would be glad to at least receive the anger he felt he was due. Beneath his seat he felt more than heard the young bronze croon, faint worry blooming past the excitement in the dragon's hearts. I'm sure it won't be all that bad, Theo. This is a romance, isn't it? Not a tragedy...

"I'm sure it's neither, really, Iweth... just something I should have done a long time ago."

The answer did littler to appease the bronze, but he went silent all the same, at least until he gave a brassy bugle to announce his approach to Hesperith's ledge.

Whatever Theo thought of himself for, Faranth forbid, being a new dragonrider with a young bronze to take care of as opposed to some silly social obligations, it was only Theo who thought it. Sylfie had only been happy for him, and still was, even if she did miss his company - which in itself was a bit silly, as they'd hardly had each other's company for a great length of time, or with any regularity. Under such circumstances, she barely had any right at all to miss him, let alone when he was actually in the Weyr. Exceedingly busy, as any weyrling should be, but there nonetheless.

Of course he'd not had much time to visit, not with Iweth to tend to and no shortage of lessons, practice, and expectations, and doubtless he was making friends with his classmates. Even if he had had a wealth of time, she'd not have presumed to expect that he spend it with her. She made do with the visits from Regory, upon whom she was all too happy to bestow treats and kisses, even once she'd acquired a firelizard of her own. He was a sweet and handsome little bronze, and fortunately a most agreeable fellow not given to jealousy, and so Regory's receptions had remained warm.

Resting out on her ledge while Sylfie lay curled up on her bed with a book, Hesperith crooned a welcoming answer to the young bronze as he approached, shifting just so to allow him adequate space. Young Iweth! Why, you have grown so that I would hardly recognize you! How fine a countenance you are coming into.

At first, Sylfie had thought nothing of the sounds from outside - in such a busy Weyr, the vocalizations of dragons quickly faded into background noise, but when she glimpsed through Hesperith who it was, she gave a squeak and scrambled off the bed to straighten it and anything else that might be amiss. His own rest disturbed, her flit gave a startled cheep and set to fluttering about in a similar tizzy, though the cause was quite beyond him.

Iweth made as graceful a landing as he could, the young bronze still mastering the delicate art of coordinating his legs and his wings with the weight of The upon his back. He managed to turn his rather rolling stop into a rather chipper-looking trot, taking one, two, three bouncing, bounding steps towards Hesperith before finally stalling out, ducking his head and folding a wing in a draconic version of a formal bow. From you, my lady Hesperith, such words are the height of all compliments! I shall treasure the memory of them for all time, until the Red Star fades forever back into the dark of the deep heavens. The bronze paused, kneeling to let Theo slip from his back before returning his attention to the much larger golden dragon. Our most gracious compliments for your warm welcome; we're honored to be allowed the wonder of visiting with you today!

Theo for his part was distracted enough by his anticipated dismissal to pay little mind indeed to Iweth's keen attentions. The bronze enjoyed being both a good guest and a gracious host, and he shared a fair amount of his rider's sense of propriety; the odds were good that he wouldn't make too much of a bother of himself. Theo, after all, was the one who'd been in the wrong, who owed both Hesperith and Sylfie an apology. "Please pardon our intrusion... unannounced and all that it is," he called softly up to the gold. She'd been so kind to him before, and the first dragon to talk to him beyond in passing. Who'd been interested in him, and seen... really any sort of potential in him. All his life he'd wanted to be searched... talking to Hes was the closest he'd ever come. And aside fro Iweth, she was still the dragon he'd been closest to.

When Sylfie spurned him, dismissed him as she surely would, he would miss her dragon nearly as much as the woman herself.

He fought not to wring his hands as he approached where the hanging curtains split ledge from weyr proper, eyes cast down, mind spinning at how he imagined the next moments would go. He'd been a coward to wait so long... the least he could do now was be brave, he supposed. With that in mind, he steeled himself, swallowed his pride (and to try to wet his nervously dry mouth), and called past the drapes into the weyr. "Ah... Sylfie? It's... Theo." ...Stupid! Wher-brained fool, of course she'd know it was him! Maybe he just ought to walk off the ledge now and save her the trouble, oh! Still, he held his ground, spine straightening, and waited for his doom to arrive.

Even with quite a bit of growing still ahead of him, and the resulting less than utterly perfect coordination and grace, Iweth was just terribly handsome, in no small part due to his impeccable manners and eloquent way of speaking. Young he might be, but his words dripped most delightfully purple, as florid and flattering as any in the stories that she Hers both loved, and so Hesperith hung on every one with deepest pleasure. Many were the bronzes of High Reaches, and while they were respectful or even occasionally admiring, none spoke to her quite so, though she ever wished they would. Her eyes were deepest blue, and she hummed delight at the young dragon and his rider. If such words will keep one such as I in your memory, then I selfishly hope that the Red Star will never fade, so that I might remain in your thoughts always.

We are most pleased to have such excellent visitors, she said to both, Especially as rare a sight as you have been. And you look just as fine as your Iweth, dear O'thio - how well the life of a rider agrees with you!

No sooner had Theo approached the drapes and announced himself than did the hangings just barely part...for the bronze flit who zoomed out of the weyr to plaster itself against the man, little claws gripping at his clothing as he warbled up at the stranger-to-him bronzerider with an affection so openly enthusiastic it was far more suited to a canine. NEW FRIEND NEW FRIEND new friiiiieeeeeend~!

This was followed by an actual parting of the hangings, as Sylfie rushed out in the wake of her overly-friendly pet, which she almost reached for, but that would have necessitated possibly touching Theo, and that was...that was...! So all she could do was gasp and cringe and look totally ashamed as she tried to convince the flit not to just accost visitors like that. "Kelann, don't, you- you know you're not supposed t..to- I'm so sorry, he just thinks e-everyone is his friend, Kelann please let go, Theo doesn't n-need hugs...!"

None of this dissuaded Kelann at all. SCREEEEE.
