Joining

There are few ways to become a member of the Stormborn. Below you will see those ways listed out with detailed information along side them. Most of you may have been luck enough to be born this way, others have to prove themselves.

Birthright

You were born this way to two strong, iron blooded lions that procured, for you, the future of being a Stormborn. While your life may be tough it will be filled with plenty of rewards. If you were born into the pride you just have to provide the first names of both parents to ensure your place.

Sheer Talent

If you weren't lucky enough to be born into the pride with iron in your blood naturally, then you must prove yourself. At this time the only way to prove yourself is to battle it out with a member of the pride. Upon winning that duel your lion may join as a Freeborn and then work up the ranks - dependent upon gender.

Captured

These rough and tough lions often return with a prize or two, and that may be you. If it is (we are not sorry) you will be tasked with numerous duties which are often related to maintaining a den or cubs.

Challenge Example

Challenges are a dice-based system similar to the Firekin dueling system, wherein the challenger and the Reaver who accepts the challenge roll five four-sided dice and the person whose dice add up to the greater number wins. The challenge should still be RPed out, even though the outcome is known from the beginning. It is optional, but not required, for each number in the roll to represent the ferocity and efficacy of its corresponding attack. Any challenge can count as a joining RP for certing purposes, but in order to be added to the member list it must be a challenge which your SoA won or in which there was a draw.

Challenger rolls 5 4-sided dice: (4,2,1,3,1) 11.
Challenger approached the barriers of the Stormborn stronghold and roared out a challenge, demanding that he be acknowledged.

Reaver

Reaver rolls 5 4-sided dice: (1,4,4,2,1) 12.
Reaver was on barrier duty that morning, and when he heard a challenger's roar he slipped through the barrier and went to greet him.
"Stay if you will fight, or else depart."
Without waiting for a reply, Reaver leaped. If the challenger didn't really want to fight, he would surely flee.

Now, as we can see, the Reaver's destined to win already, but let's play along. A limited amount of god-modding and assumption is allowed here so that five billion posts aren't spent on just issuing challenges. The Reaver needn't initiate combat, by the way.

Proceed

Challenger

Challenger side-stepped to avoid Reaver's charge, but he did not in any way indicate that he was going to flee. As Reaver came within range, he leapt with his claws and teeth straining for Reaver's soft underbelly.

Reaver

Reaver's attack went awry, and before he could recover from his missed leap he was struck from the side. Pain shot through him as claws and teeth found soft parts of his body and dug in. For the time being, all he could do was struggle to free himself, perhaps getting in a lucky claw swipe.

Conclusion
The fight will continue until both players' characters have gone through all of their rolled actions, by which time an IC winner will have emerged. If it's the Challenger (as it was not in this case) he or she is welcomed into the pride and both fighters are given catnip and their wounds are tended. If the Reaver wins, the Challenger is chased off or left there to bleed (depending on the severity of their injury). They are welcome to return and try their luck again, as often as they wish. A tie will allow the Challenger into the pride, as it proves they are at least as good as the Reaver they fought.

History: Ifrit is an older lion, grown up on the traditional ways of the Stormborn. He's been on a lengthy viking mission, having been unable to return due to injury and illness that hit him while being out. He travels with a falcon.

History: I would love for him to be a Reaver, if that would work! I am thinking he is a survivor of an attack against his raiding party and was held captive for some time before finally freeing himself and returning home. He was captured with Awilix, they are the soul survivors of their Raiding party.

Eygon is a fierce and loyal lion, who puts his everything into his raiding band. He has fought hard to find his place within the pride and is faithful to the Warlords values.

I can see him being an original member with some core traditional values, while still having a healthy curiosity about things outside of his own understanding.

History: Awilix is a Demi-god/seer who is the daughter of the Goddess of Hypnosis, her father was a Reaver and raised her to be a strong warrior, when he passed she carried his strength with her, vowing to always honor his memory and legacy by becoming a Reaver herself. (This was before the rank changed while she was away) She and small Raiding party were attacked and those who were not slain were taken captive, held as slaves until she and the other remaining Stormborn were able to escape and return home.

She would return upset over the change in her rank, however, this wouldn't stop her from continuing to follow in her father's footsteps.

History: Lorelei met a band of Storm born warriors on a Viking she kept them at a distance eventually they invited her to join them in their pride. Lorelei went to the border and made her attempt to win a duel, but being inexperienced she lost. With training from the group that she had met she returned to try again.

History: Aslaug was born during a storm, and her parents always thought that fact auspicious. Her parents were ever traditional in their thinking, and raised her and her siblings the same way; she and her sisters were to be Freeborn, Priestesses, or perhaps Lawspeakers, to be iron-willed, cunning, and to not settle for a weak male; her brothers were raised to be Reavers or Lawspeakers, strong of will and claw, to strive for nothing less than their own best. Aslaug herself chooses to remain a Freeborn until she meets a male that meets her exacting standards.

History: Hlér is an older Stormborn, with a few litters of cubs with his mate already carrying on the family line, his latest containing only his daughter Masaune. He's had his fair share of vikings and tales from them, and loves telling them to the younger generations when asked. He's not sure what he thinks of the fluctuating changes of later, but he's seen enough battles to know it's the time to watch and wait and see how everything falls out in the long run.

History: Zigoga was born into a cruel pride and raised by a cruel father, yet he turned out... well. Different. He grew up cautiously, very self-aware and terrified of injury, and ended up joining the rival pride that was about peace and love once he was old enough to escape his father's clutches. He didn't do much in that pride, comfortable with the peace and safety it offered, but all good things come to an end. The pride disbanded and he was out in the rogue lands, looking for safety. Word of a strong pride with strong lions caught his attention for he knew that with strength came safety. He sought out the Stormborn because of their size and power: not for himself, but for the simple fact that if he joined, he would be safe from outside forces.
