Physical Description: Mavri has rounded features, large brown eyes, and freckles that follow a curve over her cheeks and the tip of her nose. She has a sideways, almost puckish smile. She displays this often, laughing easily. Her brown hair is thick and wavy, curling at the ends which, if not braided neatly, rest past her shoulders. She is slender, with only a slight curve at her hips. Her fingers are cauloused from long periods of playing guitar.
Personality: Mavri wouldn’t have been out of place in the water, the way her thoughts roam like an uneasy ocean, turbulent with a bright sky above. She has always been more of a playful spirit. Her parents tried to stamp that out of her when she was young. They were harpers focused on their craft—and though Mavri was talented, she often wasn’t as focused as they would have preferred. She’s easily distractible. Especially when that boy was around. That boy, as her parents called him, was the cause of all of Mavri’s issues. Her crush would enter during a practice, and that practice was finished. She would set down her guitar and go to join him in whatever he was doing.

That boy was Yario, and Mavri had never felt closer to someone. He shaped much of who she is. She learned chords, she learned to keep with his tempo… She learned what love was.

Mavri is especially gifted with communication. Words, especially written words were easy for her. Observation was a useful tool with this ability, especially when it came to reading Yario’s expressions. He was always so straight faced and serious, but she knew how he felt. It came from the years of knowing him.

Once Mavri tries something, she doesn’t give up until she succeeds or burns herself out. She is a talented guitarist, but she wasn’t always, and she uses this as her philosophy for life. Much like the chords on a guitar, life can be hard to reach with small hands. You have to learn how to stretch just the right way to reach your goals. She’s persistent, believing that success is only one more set of trial and error away. She is goal-oriented, working better when she sets herself a goal than when she doesn't have a deadline.

Mavri knows life can be difficult, but that's all the more reason for life to be made fun. There are so many bad moments, sometimes life needs to be taken lightly. Because of this attitude, however, she can be seen as shallow and silly. She teases to make people smile. It was something she picked up while seeing Yario. He always looked so serious. She worked hard to get him to smile. It became a lifelong habit, a goal to make those she met happy. This habit, once focused on her friend, expanded to most anyone she meets.

Despite her need for the positive, Mavri believes honesty is the best policy. Sometimes a small lie seems like the right thing to say, but it grows and becomes something negative. And with the truth, she didn’t have to worry about forgetting what she’d said. She’s learned from past mistakes. Telling the truth, even when no one believes you, is the right thing to do. This paired with nostalgia of her youth and those still deep feelings for Yario urge her to confront him, if ever she meet him again.

History: Mavri was born to strict parents, both journeymen at the Harperhall in Fort. They pushed her from an early age to show an interest in music. She learned to pick up a guitar when she was seven turns old, and was playing it—but not well, by eight. She was quickly apprenticed, and while her distractibility did cause some problems with lessons, it certainly benefited her in social aspects.

At sixteen turns old, she was Searched. He parents encouraged this as a good opportunity for her. Being a rider, they said, was a great honor. Not everyone was chosen by a dragon as worthy to Impress one. She was reluctant. She had fallen in love and she didn’t want to leave Yario. The dragonrider was impatient, he hadn’t come to the Hall to Search. He’d come for replacement parts for his instrument. Mavri had little time to gather her things. She didn’t have time to say goodbye to Yario.

She settled into her new position as candidate and then began to write him letters. She wrote him regularly, almost daily if she had the time between chores. She didn’t get a response. She never got a response. About two sevendays after being searched, she Impressed Dezinarth.

He was the best dragon in all Pern, a gorgeous thing in her unhappy teenage existence. Things got better, but she still waited for a return letter. She never got one. Without the ability to leave the Weyr, Mavri feared the worst. Had he become ill? Had he left the hall? He wasn’t old enough to become a journeyman, was the firelizard dropping her messages between instead of delivering them?

Once Dezinarth was old enough, they got their answer. Mavri took a restday to blip over Harper Hall and looked for him. She was given the news that her friend had been Searched. But where? She didn’t think she’d ever see him again. And when thread returned a turn later, finding him left her mind. He was undoubtedly happy, where ever he was. They needed to focus on fighting Thread.

Physical Description:
Personality: When it comes to his rider, Dezinarth does nothing by halfs. He's loyal and protective, unwilling to hear any other side, should his rider get into an argument. Fiercely protective, at least in the way he verbally reacts, this blue tends to bluff. While he would not actually toss Y'io into the ocean, he might say that he's considering it. He warms up slowly when new dragons and people enter his life but when he does, he is loyal to them as well.

Dezinarth has a bone to pick with a certain harper. Mavri might think Y'io is the most impressive man to walk Pern, but Y'io will know he's on thin ice with the blue. He doesn't trust him.

Dezinarth knows that his rider isn't perfect, but he knows and accepts her flaws. She is his. She gets distracted by things and feels a constant need to encourage positivity in others' lives. Dezinarth knows that sometimes someone needs to experience the negative before being able to see the positive.

Flights are great fun, but they aren't much more than that. Dezinarth has no interest in staying with a green he's flown, at least not yet. He loves the thrill of the chase! Clingy greens will be resented. When he isn't chasing greens, he enjoys the company of other dragons.

He also enjoys the company of firelizards. They aren't as intelligent as other dragons, but they are amusing. He wouldn't mind one bit if his rider had a tiny thing.

He might be biased, but Dezinarth enjoys music above all other forms of entertainment. His rider is decent with her guitar, and he often places himself as close as possible to wherever music is being played. He knows the value of words, he knows sometimes music comes out differently due to who's playing it... He loves it.

Great work so far! Mavri's loving, accepting, stubborn and distractable traits still need a bit of expanding, though. As written, it appears they only apply to her relationship with Yario. How did these traits show up in her everyday life and relationships when she was living away from him at the Weyr?

You could actually swap out one of her positive traits with something like "empathetic," if you tweak this bit from her history and add it to her personality: "Mavri was especially gifted with communication. Words, especially written words were easy for her. Observation was a useful tool with this ability, especially when it came to reading Yario’s expressions. He was always so straight faced and serious, but she knew how he felt."
