what better place to kill some time than at the market?

There was always so much to get done these nights. But despite the weight of everything on his shoulders, Cerpin Sugall would always make time to step outside and take a breath. The Chittentown air was cool and dusty on his skin as he wandered the streets, nodding to the people he recognized along the way. He was out of place here in the lowblood capital of Alternia but he'd been here for sweeps. It was home despite the way he didn't quite fit.

Someday it wouldn't be. Home would be among the stars where the unusual and the foreign mixed with the alien. But that night was not here yet.

"Oh, what do you got tonight?" He grinned at some of the trolls bustling about the busy marketplace. Cerpin liked to come here in between shifts at Underworld and his other work. It was a place full of new oddities to try and new people to sample. You never knew what you were going to find here. There was always the chance of being swindled but also the chance of going home with the deal of a lifetime!

Nosing around from stall to stall, he picked up various items to inspect them before setting them back down. What did he need? What would Tevini need? Was there anything he ought to get Mahmud for his work? Chittentown was full of inventors and builders which meant the marketplace was full of parts and tools. But tonight he was in the mood to see something pretty. The city needed more artists. They couldn't all live in Civisect's pristine beachside galleries, could they?

"Ah. That. I like that, can I see it closer?" Something golden caught his eye as it glinted under the light of the moons. He paused before a young tealblood's stall. Had he met this person before? Something about them seemed familiar...

"Wait, you're... you're from the woods, aren't you?" He carefully avoided calling the place what it really was, a swamp, just in case he was wrong.

Nanogg liked markets. The were full of things -- sometimes even things that someone had made themselves, beautiful and functional things worthy of looking at and embracing with money and goods. He wasn't sure how he'd been talked into it, but he'd rented his own stall in Chittentown -- the city of lowbloods. There was something nice about Chittentown, something that other cities lacked.

Aside from being full of yellowbloods and yellow things. So pretty!

This was the second night, and Nanogg was pleased with the results. His was a very general booth -- metal craft both made by him and traded for, beeswax candles, glass cups and plates and spoons... He'd arranged it all nicely at his stall. It wasn't bad for offloading some of his wares, getting beetles, and finding all new and interesting things to buy sell and trade... or bring back home, as the case might be.

Nanogg looked up at the purpleblood that approached, grinning as he recognized the unmistakable Cerpin Sugall. "Yeah, therabouts." he said, making the special handsign that he'd been taught to use in greetings. It was more for Initiative members in disguise, and neither were. Still, though, the old refrain echoed in his mind.

Stay secret, stay safe.

And know who your allies are.

Mari stirred behind him, on the nest she'd made of his jacket. Better asleep than pillaging someone's stall, honestly. Nanogg wanted to give these other trolls a chance to make an honest living. Outsider highbloods were one thing, but these trolls? He couldn't really justify it.

"You're that guy from that big party around here a while back, right?" He remembered it well... his first taste of Chittentown. He'd run around, danced, antagonized people, hung out with Se'lune, gotten to see Autumn perform and... Well, it had been exhausting.

And then he'd had to go find his lusus, hidden somewhere and buried in party favors. She'd been unapologetic, teasing her son mercilessly about the whole thing. Not that he could ever be mad at her. "I'm remembering that real well, it wasn't half bad."

He'd had a blast.

So was Cerpin just shopping, or... Oh, yeah, he'd been interested in something at the stall. Nanogg pointed to a metallic butterfly pin. It was really simple, and not actually gold (or even gilded) but Nanogg thought it was pretty and thought he might be able to do something with it (or the smooth semiprecious stone inset in it) if he brought it back home...

"Did this beauty's fluttering wings catch yer eye?" It wasn't Cerpin's style, but if he wanted it, Nanogg wasn't going to judge. It was pretty, after all.
