The room is filled with burly looking trolls today, sizing each other up and dusting their hands with chalk. On a mat in the center of the room, a troll the size of a beanpole slams their much larger opponent to the ground and receives grunts of approval. The instructor turns from the scene and looks at you meaningfully, then nods towards the mat. If you want to pass the class, you have to go hand-to-hand in the ring.
Mechanics Trolls must find a partner and engage them in a battle roleplay in order to pass this examination. This is a normal battle with the following rules: No weapons, powers, or items can be used. Once the trolls have finished their battle they may complete this course.
This can be used once per troll as a regular battle rp for growth. It has the same standard rp-each-post requirement.

Sephos wasn't sure about this. "Uh." he said, as he awkwardly took his place in the ring, "Are you still sure about this?" He asked. He barely knew how to fight, after all, beyond pushing back when pushed and punching back when punched. But, he would give it a try. He had a vague sense that, even if he didn't want to, he wouldn't be able to back out now...
Well. Api started to have second thoughts the moment they saw the ring, but... they had asked him if he wanted to remain a team for this part of the class. That and they weren't going to pass if they didn't do it. They vaguely remembered that time on the ground crew mission when he'd lifted part of a demolished hive to help a lusus retrieve something for their charge. This... wasn't going to go in their favor...
"Uh, well... We have to do it anyway, ahaha. Might as well get it over with." They offered up a nervous but friendly smile, then got into position. They had their stance right, but they were pretty sure their push against Sephos was like a breeze or something. He was just too solid.
Sephos was used to rough terrain, but this was different. The push, though not much against his own sturdiness, made his healed stab wound twinge in memory and triggered a push back in return -- a hard push, and a belated attempt at an attack to follow up.
Api honestly should have expected that it would come to punches sooner rather than later, but they had nonetheless been taken off guard. Sephos's fist collided with their arm as they tried to brace themself- it hurt, but not as bad as it could have. They backed off, trying to reassess how to handle the situation.
Sephos backed off too, trying his best to assess the situation. How was one supposed to fight? Sephos had defended himself before -- from Eridia -- but this was different. Then, it was a very fight-or-flight thing, it was like parts of his mind clicked together. Then, he'd been tracking things all at once: her knives, the skull, where she was moving, where he was moving... This was different. He wasn't feeling that desperate awareness. Just a lot of thinking.
In a word, he overthought it, and missed a chance he could probably have used.
An observer - there were a few now - barked at him to stop being a ******** wimp and hit the lowblood already and he blinked, more than a little overwhelmed.
Oh, great. Observers... Api tried to ignore them, it wouldn't be much different from when they were on stage, right? Except these ones were audible. Someone jeered at Sephos to just hit them already. Their expression soured momentarily - hit the lowblood, as if being a lowblood was a bad thing, or something. They moved forward, aiming a quick kick for Sephos's leg to maybe knock him off balance.
Api's strike was true and Sephos was indeed thrown off balance, though perhaps not the way Api had hoped. Sephos tripped, falling forward toward Api as he did so and used his momentum to land a punch just before he regained his footing. The jeering of the observers made him shift uneasily into what he hoped was the right defensive posture. It felt right, anyway, his arms up in front of him to block blows to his face and body... if he could catch them.
Oh, ow- the hit hurt quite a bit and Api was at a loss for how to block it properly. For a second there it had seemed that Sephos was just going to trip, not actually hit them. They winced, trying not to show too much weakness as the onlookers cheered. Rather than let it get to their head too much, they feinted a quick punch, then followed it up with a kick. They weren't trying to hurt him too much, just... get the exercise over with.
Sephos moved to block the 'punch' and got a low hit on his side in return. He tried to strike back quickly, but another jeer from an onlooker threw him off. It felt wierd, doing this -- he didn't really want to be hitting Apibom at all. But here he was.
Sephos pulled back, trying to get some distance... only to find that he didn't have much to give.
The jeering was getting pretty distracted. They wanted to just tell the onlookers to shut up and let the two of them focus, but a lot of them were higher blooded than they were. ugh... Sephos backed up, trying to get some room apparently - but there wasn't much on his side. They stepped forward, slinging a half-hearted punch at one of his shoulders.
As his shoulder took the light blow, Sephos' punch was equally halfhearted. The commentors were starting to turn on him too, even suggesting that he should 'get out of the ring and let a real troll show him how it was done.'
If that happened... Sephos felt a weal of worry, and tried to move forward, get it over with... Because even he knew that that wouldn't be good.

A 'real troll'?? Apibom hesitated for a moment at the thought. There were plenty of big, strong looking jeerers in the crowd. In their haste to get out of the situation, they lashed out with a bit more strength than they'd been intending to. Ooops. They shot Sephos an apologetic look, not wanting to risk voicing it lest the onlookers get any ideas about actually hopping into the ring.

Apibom's next punch hit, hard. Sephos's reply was purely reflexive and, perhaps fortunately, missed. Feeling cramped in the space, Sephos began to circle around, trying to find a way to get out of the ring and out of the sight of these trolls.
As much as they wanted to end this quickly, they couldn't get themself to keep pursuing after Sephos. Rather than follow after him, they opted to back up and give them both some space. They just... needed to figure out a way to end things in one swoop. That'd be better, right?
