An alternative to Stat Based combat is something we of Radiant Dawn call Epic Anime Battles. In this scenario you and your opponent forgo stats to have a battle solely based on Role Play which is then judged by the moderator for the victor. The winner doesn't matter. The loser doesn't matter. Stats will be given based on your writing and wordplay. How well did you describe your actions? Who held the edge in combat? These are the things we'll be looking at as criteria for the story you've written with your fellow RPER.
There will be three judges who will grade you on your ability in three different categories. Flare. Effectiveness. Drive.
Flare:: Outlined as your overall writing ability. How well you used the writing tools at your disposable to paint the image of your character. The better the word usage, placement, and style, the better your score!
Effectiveness:: How you did what you did when you did it! This says how well your actions were placed and how you used them against your opponent.
Drive:: How badly did you want this? Writers tend to burn out more so at the beginning being that they use their best to start off, but are you able to retain the same fire you had throughout the battle?
Each mod can give a total of [40] Stats, equaling to a grand total of [120] Stats. This is with the ideal that you score perfectly in all areas. You could also score lower with less effort, so take that into consideration. In order to engage in an Epic Anime Battle both parties must agree beforehand. Take note, if you try to do this purely for the overall gain it'll come back to bite you. You may get a lower amount of stats from a standard fight, so please be warned.
All and all, this is a fun alternative to the gripe of statistic based combat. You do not need customs; go as wild as you can possibly imagine and be as One Piece as you want!
