So they really really are OK being out here?

Certainly, no Gold had risen recently and if one happened to, well, they could always come back out before she clutched, but Aurinkoth had at least some reservation against being out in the Hatching Sands, a dark blue egg clutched gently in his jaws as he appealed to his dark brown brother for reassurance. He hadn't necessarily asked where Elzebuth had gotten them - after all, Elzebuth was so certain about these sorts of things that Aurinkoth felt he was in no position to worry so hard about it. Everything was fine, clearly!

Why is nobody else putting theirs out here? Did you have to ask permission? Or were these two firelizard eggs the only ones currently in the entire Weyr and that was why?

No one else has eggs. We don't need permission. Do you think they would allow babies to die? Elzebuth asked his small blue brother, his own jaws clamped around a light blue egg even as he began to paw roughly at the burning sands of the Hatching Ground. Once he was content that the mound was deep enough, he carefully placed his egg into it. Come now, brother. No one will know. They will be good for Ours. Carefully, he nudged Aurinkoth with affection.

Place your egg next to mine. We will guard them until they are ready. Yes, he was quite pleased with himself! Theirs deserved firelizards--G'ran most of all. No one could say he did not have everything he desired, as long as Elzebuth was around.

Watching as Elzebuth dug, Aurinkoth also began to paw at the sand, idly entertaining the idea of seeing if Ichta would let him bury her! Oh! That would be so fun! Of course, he'd have to keep her head out of the sand and she would have to bathe later, but she'd probably enjoy it. Well, he would enjoy it. Oh! Oh! Maybe she would bury him!

Well, no. That is true. I just thought this place was for baby dragons. but it sounded like Elzebuth knew otherwise, so Aurinkoth put his complete and total trust in him. There would be those, namely Zenobiath, who would consider that a mistake, but Zenobiath wasn't as concerned about his Ichta as Elzebuth and his G'ran were. That was very important, after all. He tilted his head at the light blue egg that was already in the wallow. It was a very pretty shade of blue, though he couldn't place exactly why he thought that, but he gently set his egg next to it. Then he turned it over.

Aurinkoth fussed the egg a few times before he seemed content. There was no logic or reason to it - Ichta simply did a very similar thing with anything she handled therefore it just made sense to mimic the gesture. Do you think they are siblings as we are? Oh, I do hope Ichta likes them! Will we wait for them to hatch first? He knew very little about Firelizards, but it had taken next to no effort to convince him this would make his chosen happy.

And she deserved to be happy.

Elzebuth considered that notion, but dismissed it all together. Firelizards weren't dragons, of course, but since there weren't baby dragons now, what was the problem? He was no fool. If Zenobiath thought to rear her haughty head about it and make a fuss.... well, that would require her realizing there were eggs buried in the sands to begin with. Elzebuth waited until his brother seemed content enough with the placement of his egg before he gently began to cover them back up.

They were in the same nest. They ought to be. Elzebuth gave the mental equivalent of a shrug. No. We will wait for them to be close to hatching, and then we will bring them here. Like dragons, yes? He'd subtly interrogate Candidates that had firelizards and figure out the process, but he assumed they had some time before then...

They will like them. Why would they not? They are gifts. The brown nudged his brother affectionately, rumbling low with contentment.

Aurinkoth nudged some sand over the wallow to assist in the burial of the two eggs, stopping when something else caught his attention for a brief moment and he went trotting off towards it.

That will be wonderful! They match already! And I know ours will be very good for them, Aurinkoth had absolute and full trust in both riders and was happy to share that as he came trotting back with a rock in his mouth, resting it on top of the spot where the two had buried the two eggs in the sand. While he was certain Elzebuth would remember where the eggs were, Aurinkoth had a suspicion that after a few days of flying with his Ichta he'd completely forget the leans of the stands or how far from the entryway they had walked.

He bumped his head against his brother's (a task, given how big the brown was getting) and trilled affectionately before he moved from the mound and walked farther into the sands, tail swishing idly.

I don't know! Some people are funny. Humans are funny. They keep secrets and don't show their feelings with their eyes. Well, not in a way that makes sense. it was a stance Aurinkoth had about human emotions for a long time. He understood his Ichta's because the line between where one began and the other ended had begun to blur over time, but everybody else? No sense. It's funny to think ours stood here once and doubted we'd ever want them.

The rock was eyed for a moment before Elzebuth decided to leave it. He would not forget... but what was the harm in having a place marker? It would be good, just in case. He lowered his head good naturedly so Aurinkoth could reach it, but he felt no small amount of pride to realize how much larger he was than his blue brother. It was only natural, of course, but still!

That is true. He conceded. Humans were funny. Not his G'ran, of course. But even G'ran failed to understand what he himself wanted at times. Elzebuth thrummed with amusement when Aurinkoth brought up the day of their hatching. Of course, it had been the most terrifying day of his life as well, thinking that His did not want him... Elzebuth's eyes blazed orange for a moment until he reassured himself. G'ran had wanted him. Still did.

They thought they'd be all alone. Menankith's, too.

How silly. Menankith wouldn't have had anybody else. I think he rather likes that his choice has aggravated the order. And you would have torn through any of us who would have dared to try to take your G'ran in your place, Not a realization in the moment, as G'ran had never even been an option to him. A human of interest after the fact, but not for him.

Humans are so funny.

Had he not been the very happy dragon that Ichta herself had said she wanted? I'm not sure what color yet, so I'm starting at the eyes. It will be happy no matter what it is. And she had been everything he had needed. It was simply a shame that she had been so upset by such little things. Elzebuth perhaps had been part of that, but it was fairly silly.

But they are happy now. And they will keep being so.
