High Reaches Threadfall Practice
Hosted by the Tornado Wing

(Wingleader permission has been obtained for Hurricane, Tsunami, and Trespassers as well as golds! If you belong to another wing, I'd suggest sending them a message if you'd like to participate, I don't mind I just don't want to step on any toes <3 Any riders without enough rider's from their wing to form a group will be added to another group so all can play.)

V'kenti and Takarath waited in the center of the bowl. Takarath had already let the Tornado wing members know about the upcoming drill so they were just waiting (as they arrived early than the announced time of course) for the riders to report for drill. V'kenti had also let other wing leaders know that if they wanted their wing to participate they would welcome the other riders, or if any riders wanted to drill on their time off. Bags of dyed ropes were already strapped to Takarath's straps and everything was ready to go. The pair had to admit they were a tad bit nervous running their first drill but were confident that everything would go well, or at least they hoped.

Rules:

|| A dice will be rolled to decide the roles of each group for the round. The amount of groups will depend on how many sign up!

|| After the group roles are determined, more dice will be rolled (dependent on how many groups) for the thread numbers.

|| "Dodging" Group: Will roll 1d20 and try to avoid the number +/- 2! If you roll the number directly, the thread is a direct hit. If you roll in the +/-2 range, it's just a graze. A successful dodge is +/- 3!
    Scoring:
        || Exact number = -3 points
        || +/- 1 = -2 points
        || +/- 2 = -1 points
        || +/- 3 = -1 points
        || Successful dodge = + 1 points

|| "Flaming" Group: Will roll 1d20 to try and hit the thread. A direct hit is +4 pts, anything in the +/- 2 range will be +2 pts.
    Scoring:
        || Direct hit = + 4 points
        || +/- 1 = + 2 points
        || +/- 2 = + 2 points
        || +/- 3 = + 1 point
        || +/- 4 = + 1 point

|| If the same roles are determined by the 1d20 for 2 rounds, we will automatically do the opposite for 2 rounds to give each group a chance at both roles to lose/gain points.

|| Scoring will happen individually and as a wing/group! Each dragon will start with 10 points for individual scoring, and 15 for their wing/group's total points.

|| If a dragon gets hit by too many "threads" and their point balance hits zero they'll be out of the game. If any golds are present they can practice catching the "falling" dragons. Once a dragon's points reach 0, they will fall the next round. A gold will roll a 1d20 and judge their catch by the following ranges:
    Scoring:
        || 1-2 = Miss: Misjudged the dragon's fall and another gold may attempt
        || 3-6 = Catch: The dragon's fall is broken but the gold will have to dive with the dragon to avoid them falling off. +1 point.
        || 7-9 = Catch: Good catch! The dragon isn't perfectly centered but isn't in danger of falling off. + 2 points
        || 10 = Catch: Perfect! + 3 points
        || 11-13 = Catch: Good catch! The dragon isn't perfectly centered but isn't in danger of falling off. + 2 points
        || 14-17 = Catch: The dragon's fall is broken but the gold will have to dive with the dragon to avoid them falling off. +1 point.
        || 18-20 = Miss: Misjudged the dragon's fall and another gold may attempt.

|| Golds: Golds will automatically be in a "Flaming" Group no matter the number that sign up! They're not competing against anyone, just for the practice (But i'll keep count for funzies). They can attempt to catch falling dragons, doing so will void their flame for that round so golds might want to communicate if this takes place!

As more and more riders reported for drill, V'kenti nodded to each respectfully and tried to call up any information he had stashed away in his head about them. Takarath added in small bits concerning each of the corresponding dragons. Al'ndru he hoped would prove why he was chosen as a wingsecond during this drill. Lucayr he planned to watch to see if he would focus on the drill or turn it into a social event. E'dan and G'lin didn't worry V'kenti as he knew they tended to be hard working and on task though Taka would note that Neiveth liked to flirt with everyone. V'kenti turned to look at the members of Hurricane wing that had come to join them. A'dras would be a good wingleader, he believed, and was pleased to see him among those waiting to get started. V's gaze swept over blue to a tiny green that Takarath assured was capable despite her size. V'kenti's lingered on Ay'ril, if he remembered correctly was a newer HR transfer but chosen by A'dras as wingsecond so V'kenti figured he must have some pretty good qualities. And then there was Lestenna, who V'kenti was glad to see had taken his open invitation for the golds to join them and get some practice of their own.

As time approached the appointed hour, V'kenti stepped forward. "For Tornado wing, Al'ndru will be leading you during this drill as I run it. I will randomly choose a wing to be dodging and the other will flame. Lestenna and Uridith will practice with their flamethower and catching falling dragons if anybodys points reach zero, Takarath will notify if anyone has. We will be flying at fighting altitude so please do take this seriously and pay attention. Alright everyone, lets begin." Takarath waited while V'kenti mounted and looked towards Uridith. He said affectionately even though they were in no real danger and he knew the gold could take care of herself.

Once everyone was in the air at the right altitude he gave direction to start flying and for Takarath to broadcast the roles.

1st 1d20 decides rolls:
Odds = Tornado dodges
Evens = Hurricane dodges
2nd 1d20 decides number to dodge/flame!
Ignore total Number smile

Lucayr and Tikth, Dodging

Tornado Wing Score: +1

Sitting in an alert posture on his ledge, Tikth was rather excited about the soon-starting drill. It hadn’t been too common for the different wings to mix under the previous Wingleaders. This could make for a lot of good practice in cooperation and perhaps reveal a few rivalries he’d surely find entertaining. The only problem was… So many would be there!

Feeling a little self-conscious, are we? Lucayr prodded, his thought tinged with both amusement and affection. His little brown had been born feeling as though he were under a performer’s spotlight, and everyone was always looking at him. It had been a lot more difficult to be properly social when Tikth was a hatchling, but their former turns of travel and actually performing for larger and larger crowds had brought the dragon a long way.

Tikth brought his head down to his rider’s level, his yellowish eyes relaxing to warmer shades of green as Lucayr buckled a fine leather strap behind his headknobs and down under his throat, a fixture similar to the bridle of a runnerbeast. The strap crossing his forehead was wrapped with small piece of embroidered yellow fabric that appeared to be an emblem of some sort. It seemed to have a calming effect on the dragon.

When they reached the crowd gathered for the Tornadoes’ open wing drill, Tikth was rather quiet, except for his exuberant greeting to Uridith. Good morning, dear Uridith! he called as they landed.

For his part, Lucayr did little more than nod to his Wingleader and fellow riders, though he offered a cheerful wave and slight bow from the shoulders to Lestenna when he’d gotten her attention. He was outspoken and flamboyant when not wearing his riding gear, but he knew when it was time to be serious. He also had a particular affair to attend to, which would be best served by observing today.

Their attentiveness paid off in the air – Tikth easily avoided the first round of “Thread” that fell around them.

Ay'ril and Yffengeth, Flaming

Hurricane Score: +2

Ay’ril had elected to join his Wingleader, A’dras, in representing the Hurricane Wing that day. They’d both felt this combined drill was an excellent idea, and if it worked out well, perhaps the Hurricanes would also begin to host such events. But Ay’ril had his dragon both had their eyes open for any sign of over-competitiveness. The last thing he hoped would come of this drill was for any of the wings to become antagonistic toward each other.

Everything seemed in order as their groups rose into the sky, taking their places. He and bronze Yffengeth would be flaming this time. V’kenti and Takarath flew above, releasing a wave of fake Thread over the two practicing wings.

Thread! Yffengeth turned his head and spouted flame at the offending clump, his aim nearly perfect.

Ay’ril laughed as the dyed ribbons fizzled into ash. It was an accurate demonstration of what twelve turns of training at High Reaches Weyr could do for a rider pair.
