Let's get Sly back.

You have encountered a Security Patrol!
Only trolls who are currently posting in the thread may join in the fight.
The mechanics work similar to regular boss battle, although this is classified as a mini-boss. (We are testing this system! Enjoy being guinea-pigs!)
Unlike regular boss battles, the mule will not be posting new rounds, and players can simply post as fast and often as they want, taking turns to attack one at a time.
Players who have trinkets or abilities may also post to use one directly after posting their attack, giving them a maximum of two turns for that round.

Each time every player in the fight has had a turn to attack the mini-boss once and use one power/trinket, a new round begins.

At each new round roll the standard 2d6 and use the table below to see what damage you've taken.
As always, the first number is what you should check for your damage, and the second is the amount done to the mini-boss.

Once the mini-boss or all players fighting it reach 0hp, this can be counted by all trolls participating as a battle rp for growth. If you have any questions, please PM the mule!

GUARD STARTING HP: (final group's rolling score x number of group members)

As you hurry along, trying not to attract any unwelcome attention, you nevertheless fail to get past all the guards unseen. A ringing cry pierces your sponge clots - "Halt!" Two drones, clearly low-tier guards, come huffing up, one shedding a half-eaten circular grain product with sugary glazing. "This is a restricted area! You are under arrest! Put your hands in the air!" You don't want to weigh what your chances are of escaping from the Punishment Pits twice. Taking out a handheld transceiver, one of them barks into it. "We have intruders, repeat! Intruders!"
The other one shuffles a little, getting out a heavy baton. "Burtam - did you remember to put new batteries in?" At this, the barking drone pauses and squints down at his device, pressing the button a few times. "Damn. Uh. Hey you! I said hands up! Just because we don't have backup doesn't mean you won't be getting into a nice new pair of cuffs!" Raising his own baton, he nods at his partner, and the two drones advance on you.

If you rolled a 1, the two guards both decide to focus on you, and actually manage to wrestle you to the ground with your hands behind your back before you're able to shake them off. In your mind's eye, you can see the cell's door slamming back into place as you're thrown in again. Take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 2, one of the guards leaps at you in a frenzy, striking you over and over and over while yelling something about 'assaulting an officer of the royal army'. He seems to be forgetting which one of you is doing the assaulting at the current moment. Take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 3, a truncheon comes down hard on your head, making your eyes cross for a moment as chirpbeasts flutter around in front of your vision. Take 2 dmg.

If you rolled a 4, you charge forward and place your foot square on the food carelessly dropped by one of the drones as they arrived. The sugary glaze causes you to slide awkwardly across the floor, arms windmilling, before dropping you onto your rear. Take 1 dmg.

If you rolled a 5, You manage to duck and dodge all truncheon swings, nimbly slipping in between and around the two bulky guards as they flail at you.

If you rolled a 6, you consider these two drones, willingly working in a plant that is powered by enslaved lusii. What kind of heartless jerk could enforce the law, in a place filled with parents forcefully separated from their children?! Your next attack is loaded with righteous outrage, and does double damage.

When the mini-boss or all trolls have reached 0hp, please look in the spoiler below.

Mini-Boss at 0
As soon as the first of the guards drops to a knee, you take your chance and dart past them, ignoring the shouts from behind you as you leave them in your dust. You'd better get out of here before they catch their second wind! (Do not continue to roll 2d4s. If players hit the maximum of 20 points in rolling the 2d4, each player can now roll 1d100 in their next post. If you get a multiple of 10, your troll has snatched a 3 use novice trinket of your choice from one of the guards as they fled past.)

Players at 0
The two guard drones are more than a match for you, and you call a strategic retreat, running until you can't hear their footsteps or shouts anymore. Looks like you will have to find another way around to get past. (Do not continue to roll 2d4s)

For each post every person submits, roll 2d4. Keep track of the accumulated point total between all players posting. When you have gotten to the point where you have found and released your lusus, or have reached a total of 20 points, (whichever comes first) multiply the result by the total number of party members, and consult the spoiler below.

To say Vulpin was suited up was an understatement. The orangeblood had brought every piece of equipment they thought to be useful, and then some. Their entire body sans their mouth was obscured in a new, properly fitting body suit. Over their eyes, a set of goggles. Those were just flair.

Standing at their break in vantage point, they looked over to their partner in crime, Etsali. "Are you ready?" Their expression was unreadable but their tone was hopeful.

Where it was immediately clear that Vulpin had gone out of their way to come fully equipped for whatever lay ahead, Etsali seemed not to have made the same efforts. She looked about the same as always, mask securely in place and hat tilted just so. Even if her symbol wasn't clear as day, those trademarks plus her striped scarf would have been enough for anyone to identify her.

If that thought had occurred to her, she'd clearly found no problem with it. Great thieves were meant to be recognized, and besides, she had all she needed right here at her belt. Tapping a finger against the pouch that held her kunai, she considered their target again and then flashed a grin at her partner in crime. "Absolutely."

"Excellent." Vulpin clicked their tongue, watching Etsali with a sly smile. Gog, they were thankful to have a partner in crime for this. Breaking into another Royalist facility after clearing their record... it was frightening and outside of their comfort zone. Etsali's nonchalance helped them more than they could admit.

"This place should be decently guarded. Keep an ear out for trouble." Vulpin directed, though they expected the other troll needed no warning. Their last excursion through royalist territory was deceptively simple. They wouldn't be tricked this time around.

"This'll be a piece of cake, Vulpin," Etsali replied cheerily, but she nodded her understanding of the warning anyway. As far as break ins went, this one was up there on the danger scale, somewhere a little above angry tealbloods. It was occurring to her now, as she followed Vulpin down to the entry they'd scouted out, that maybe she could have asked Keeper along too. Too late for that now, though, so she'd just keep on thinking about how well things were going to go.

Motioning for Vulpin to keep an eye out, she tugged a lockpick free of a pouch and went to work on the door.

Vulpin visibly flinched at Etsali using their name so carelessly in their current environment. They stammered for a moment, flustered. "We're committing a big crime here, like, at least use a codename!" Vulpin ran a hand through their hair, trying to relax. "Just like... call me V. Just V."

Vulpin was disappointed, but not surprised when they noticed a sudden uptick in guards in their vicinity. "Speak of the goons, and they shall appear. We've got company." They drew their knives and held their ground. They weren't going anywhere without Sly.

"Whoops, sorry V!" Etsali flashed them an apologetic grin before turning back to her sneaky work. In her defense, she didn't usually have a partner when she was breaking into things, except for Keeper and she didn't care if anyone knew her name. She paused at the announcement of her further company, and turned to regard the pair of security drones with a raised eyebrow.

It wasn't likely to work, but she could have tried the old tactic. Could have said 'didn't you know we were supposed to be here' or 'thank goodness you found us we've been so lost' or, well, anything that might've taken their guard down a bit. But they were already raring for a fight, and they were working here and keeping lusii away from their kids, and well. She was pretty ready to go too, now that she considered that.

"Come and get us then!" Baring her teeth, she tugged a pair of knives free of the pouch at her side and hurled them full force at the two. She was already reaching for another as first blood splashed.

Vulpin quickly laid out a plan for handling the two goons. Just as quickly, their plans were thwarted by brute force. The two drones launched at Vulpin, smothering them under their weight. Vulpin thrashed, unable to form cognizant speech while flailing around with their ********... Get off of..." Vulpin managed to articulate, before giving up and biting one drone violently on the arm. Hopefully Etsali could take care of these two while they distracted them.

Etsali couldn't help but waste a couple of seconds worth of reaction time to stare as the guards rushed at Vulpin. Hadn't she been the one to draw first blood? To yell at them? Why had they decided to just- But there wasn't time to consider the nonsensical thought processes of prison guards. If they didn't think she was worth targeting, she'd make them think twice.

Without any further hesitation, the thief pivoted and launched herself onto the three of them, doing anything she could to wrestle them off of Vulpin. Maybe it worked a little too well, because the world shifted suddenly. She hit the ground with a force that briefly took the air out of her, and now it was her turn to struggle away.

Vulpin thought they may have earned an opening between Etsali's attacks, but the guards swiftly proved them wrong. It seemed the two oversized goons could handle their smaller targets just fine, and Vulpin could barely get a moment to scratch them before getting the wind knocked out of them again.

Desperation swelled in Vulpin's gut. Were they outmatched?

"V!" Etsali surged up against the drone one more time, finally able to plant a foot and get the leverage she needed. She jabbed an elbow into their ribs in a reach for distance, then skittered backwards as soon as her feet were properly under her. And now that she was grounded- No, wait, what? She was sliding, back on the ground with an oof before she could register what had gone wrong.

She let out an incredulous huff, staring for a second at the bright icing smeared across the floor and the heel of her boot.

Vulpin was furious, and they were trying desperately to quell that emotion. They had to be able to think, and emotion was only getting in the way. But this was about their lusus, how the hell were they not going to get emotional?

Grip tightening on one of their knives, they plunged it into the side of one of the drones. It was enough to free themself, but they turned to see Etsali was in a different sticky situation.

"Ets!" Vulpin dug their heels into the tile, outstretching their hand to help Etsali up.

Etsali grabbed Vulpin's hand and surged back up, used the momentum to carry on past them and jab at the wound on the side of the guard behind. The other guard swung down at her as she went, and of course there was no time to dodge. She staggered, but there was no way she was losing her feet this time. Instead she grabbed the guard's arm, shoved it up even as she stepped in and to the side. An opening for Vulpin, all wrapped up nice in a bow.

Vulpin took that opening eagerly, stepping in swiftly to land a couple stabs of their own. Experience told them to focus on the legs, but anger was starting to cloud their thoughts, and blood was starting to cloud their vision. They swung wildly, as long as it wasn't within reach of Etsali.

They had dealt with worse before. Trapping in the woods with Sly, they had taken down much bigger foes. Why couldn't they do it now? Anxiety swelled in their chest. What if they could never have that back?
