The morning air was dark, cool, slightly clammy even with the thick weight of low-hung clouds misting through the bowl of High Reaches Weyr. Just slightly less than a day ago, the candidates hd been roused from sleeping or their breakfasts, summoned to the cavern where the lives of several would be changed forever. An evening of revelry and celebration, music, feasting, and dancing had followed, culminating in a final, roaring cheer to see off the triumphant youngsters for the night. They had been shuffled off to their new home--which stood bare yards from their previous one--and fallen summarily to sleeping in small piles about the wide dark room they had been led to as a group, split into two distinct gender-based sides. It was a pure sort of exhaustion that called them to sleep, from eating and celebrating, and the newborn tiredness of their dragons sharing across twenty two new bonds. It was peaceful. It was healing.

It was shattered by the ungentley abrupt inwards crash of the door, and the heavy steps of two, three, four sets of boots. The weyrlingmaster, in all his stern glaring glory, stood flanked by his assistants on the threshold, bright light spilling in from behind to blind any unfortunate weyrlings who looked up from their rest without allowing their eyes to adjust. A few sharp tugs from one assistant sent the a number of thick dark curtains covering hidden windows fluttering to the ground, letting harsh morning rays of light bounce and fill the room with undeniable light.

"Congratulations, new weyrlings," V'mel's voice was loud, demanding attention, and purposefully projected to pluck any lingering dozers up from their pillows. "You've all done as was asked of you, and now the weyr is about to ask for more. For those of you who do not know me, I am V'mel of brown Aviroth--High Reaches' weyrlingmaster near two decades, and as of yesterday morning, you belong to me." There was a horrid sound of scraping and scratching as a number of trunks and crates, each jammed full of the now-weyrlings' belongings and brought over from the neighboring candidate barracks, was shoved into a corner of the huge room

"You've ten minutes to find your gear, get dressed, and report to the junior weyrling dining hall. Your hatchlings will be hungry and need oiling, but as this is the first day of your lives that any of you have had an ounce of responsibility to try to handle, we'll also have some klah for you weyrlings as well." He grunted out the last as if it was an idea he himself had not been entirely keen about, before stalking back out the way he'd come, leaving the barrack room's door ajar in his wake and one or two assistants to keep an eye.

The weyrlings entering the dining wing would find it divided into two halls, one larger and clearly meant for use with dragonets while they could still fit. Inside looked fit to suit a butcher's tastes, the long table strewn with thick chopping boards, buckets, glittering blades, and every few yards what looked to be an entire half of a herdbeast, freshly killed and gutted and skinned. A second table, far cleaner and peppered with steaming mugs of klah also bore smaller buckets and oil rags, just waiting for the weyrlings to come and get to work.

----------------------------------------

Hey all! So this thread is just meant to be a day-one equivalent for our new weyrlings! You of course do not have to join in, but I've quoted the whole class and the assistants in case you want to! A weyrling's day starts early, at about 530am, so it is very early, and your dragons are likely getting hungry and itchy. V'mel will be giving the weyrlings a sort of orientation once they get to work feeding their babies, and map out how their days will be spent from here on, as well as getting to know the weyrlings (and they get to know him and each other!) and answering any questions they might be brave enough to ask!

If Ichta had a reputation at all, it was for being fidgetty, nervous, and - for those who didn't know before the door to the barracks came crashing open - easily startled. She'd jolted awake with such gusto that the blue that had slept with one wing wrapped around him came whirling awake, eyes shifting between a quick flash of startled white, then slowly making their way through the rainbow as he seemed to settle into what was going on. Ichta, on the other hand, was still trying to figure out where she'd left her pulse, because it had raced away without her.

Ichtamine, you are fine. Aurinkoth assured with a gentle croon as he nudged his wedged shaped head against the girl's cheek. She stroked it with both hands. V'mel may have thought she belonged to him now, but the blue - her blue - that nudged gentle, calming (albeit tired), happiness to her had other thoughts on that. Frankly, Ichta agreed with hers. She winced as trunks full of various possessions were shuffled in, scraping against the floor (well, it wasn't like they had any worth to anybody they didn't belong to, after all) and generally left for people to pick through and figure out what was theirs. It's a game! Oh! Do you know which is yours! How many guesses will it take? Aurinkoth asked eagerly.

Still, it didn't take the Weyrlingmaster's comment for Ichta to feel the hunger of a newborn nudging it's way into her own stomach, and perhaps it was that which spurred her to her feet to start maneuvering through the trunks. Aurinkoth walked from trunk to trunk, nosing them. Is it this one? Oh oh! Maybe this one! Good morning!! the last comment was a general statement shared to all of his siblings with a joyous honk, if not a very tired one. Ichta, on the other hand, had been woken and needed no more pushing to be so.

It's this one. As several others likely had, Ichta had painstakingly scribed her name to her trunk, but it's familiarity made it easily spotted despite similarity to others, and it wasn't a difficult task to change and at least make herself as presentable as possible. Aurinkoth pointedly made sure nobody was watching because he didn't have to ask and she didn't have to tell; he knew she didn't want to be seen by any prying eyes. While Ichta wasn't one to normally lead a charge, the one out of the barracks to keep from seeing more of anybody than she was ready to was definitely one she did.

That meant that Aurinkoth had a choice of seats once they entered the dining wing, and he easily chose up the best one, as far as he was concerned. I'll save a seat for Elzebuth's and Menankith's and Cynosuth's and- Aurinkoth proceeded to list off each of his sibling's names, as though there wasn't already a seat for each of them, but he went about the table as he did before he sat by one and waited for his to sit. Clearly, this was their seat, and Ichta didn't complain as she took a seat and....

Oh boy. How did she-...she wasn't exactly skilled with a knife, but Ichta at least could....She took up a knife and gingerly cut off a slice of the Herdbeast and set to chopping it up into pieces perhaps far smaller than anybody else would have, but she wasn't about to risk her dear, little blue, his head resting on her leg and looking up at her adoringly. He was ready. Was she?

Alumet had been happy to make it back to the candidate barracks the night before. She and Zenobiath had taken a bed, and she'd been curled close with the gold. Warm, and wonderful, and the two of them so perfectly suited to one another. Truth be told, the girl was in love with getting a good night's rest, so despite Zenobiath's questions, the two had gone to sleep rather early. The sound of V'mel hadn't woken her, though his booming voice had stirred the gold to wake. Her head raised, Hers barely conscious even as the light began to stream through. Swirling between orange and white, her eyes followed the brownrider back and forth, as the girl slowly sat up. Fingers combed through tangles, Gold leaning up to nuzzle her jaw to soothe her, My Alumet. We do need to rise. Set an example for your friends and my clutchmates. She hopped from where they'd rested, elegantly, her tail flicking back and forth behind her as she made her way towards the trunks.

Alumet, on the other hand, was only fully awake for two reasons. One, V'mel had opened the drapes. Two, Zenobiath's hunger was OBVIOUS, making her own rumble audibly. She noted that the Gold had moved to Aurinkoth, to bump him gently. She,herself moved to the elegantly carved wood trunk that had been hers for a long time. Dressed and ready. Time to get dressed and ready. Out came a lovely tan shirt, her dark brown breeches, and then a pin to help hold her hair up. She noted that her beloved came over to stick her nose in, curiously, Good morning, Aurinkoth, everyone. We really should be waking. There is much to do today. Her voice reached to all her beloved clutchmates, warm and full of pleasure as she coiled around Alumet's legs as she changed. She would not be able to do this long, and she would take pleasure in it as it happened. Once she was presentable, complete with her hair done in a half braid, the two turned to make their way to the dining wing, only a short distance behind Ichta and Hers.

Alumet chose their seat, with no complaint from Zenobiath who only sniffed a bit pickily at the meat. She wanted exactly what she wanted, and there was a swirl of violet-eyed pleasure as she was offered a slice from her Rider's fingers. It was with a sense of confidence and grace that she worked with the blade, slicing pieces as Zenobiath chewed, her gaze turning to Ichta, "Hey. Ichta right? Aurinkoth's energy's kind of infectious. It's adorable. Are you doing alright?"

Nadry wasn't usually a particularly heavy sleeper, but after the Hatching and subsequent Feast, followed by unwinding with Ichta under the stars, she had been more than ready to sleep, and sleep she had. Curled up comfortably with Menankith, they had fallen into an exhausted sleep without dreams. Left on their own, they likely would have slept on for another candlemark or so, but a slow stirring to wakefulness was not a part of their new schedule. No, it was the Weyrlingmaster shoving open the door and one of his assistants yanking down the curtains.

Well. Good morning to you, too. Menankith nuzzled at her before they disentangled themselves from each other and stretched and went to identify the correct trunk. Fortunately, it was not only marked, but well-organized, so she didn't have to do much rooting around. Ten minutes to make herself presentable and get down to the dining hall wasn't so bad. It was a lot more time than she'd taken to get to the Sands the morning before. She pulled her hair back on the way down, tying it in place with a pale purple ribbon.

Menankith paced along beside her into the dining hall, whirling eyes scanning the room. He was undeniably hungry, but... What about you? When do you get to eat? he asked, having found a new concern at last night's feast.

Once you're taken care of, she assured him, bending to kiss his head, then slid onto a seat near Ichta with a friendly smile. "Good morning."

She also nodded a polite greeting to Alumet, although Menankith's gaze passed over Zenobiath in favor of Aurinkoth. Good morning, brother. Is Yours as hungry as Mine? Perhapa if we eat quickly, they will be able to eat sooner?

C'lusi had crashed hard, like many of the others. He had collapsed in a heap with his beloved blue, who had been insistent on being close. The blue had draped his wing about him, and the young man had an arm wrapped about the others curled up neck, with the little wedge head burrowed contently against his chest. The young man had never had as good a night's rest as with little Macuith there, but any hope of sleeping in was dashed by the early wakeup call. When V'mel opened the door and started bellowing his orders, C'lusi stifled a groan, not wanting to rise.... He was comfortable, he was happy, but he was also terribly hungry.

Ravenous even.

Good morning, most beloved! Macuith's eyes whirled a bright blue-green as he gazed fondly at his chosen.

Any desire to roll over, or fall back into the grip of sleep was quickly pressed aside as Macuith nosed and nuzzled him. The previous day hit him like a ton of bricks -- it hadn't been a dream. He had Impressed. Macuith was with him, still with him... they were weyrlings now. He was quick to reach out and caress that adorable face, to stroke the striped headnobs, and leaned over to plant a little kiss right atop the dragons nose. Macuith only crooned in pleasure -- though the fondness he sent C'lusi was streaked with hunger. You are Mine and I am yours, forever and for always. But you must dress, and then we must eat, and we can make best-friends with all our clutchmates, yes? Ah, but Macuith could hardly wait to start the day. He wanted to better get to know some of his clutchsibs, to coo over his sister Xochith, and of course, find something or someone to gossip about.

Look, Aurinkoth and Zeno and strapping Menankith are already out there... Xochith? Xochith are you awake yet? The little blue turned in a circle, wanting to find his green sister. Ah, but perhaps she was still too tired.

"I'm sure we'll---" C'lusi paused to yawn, giving himself a good stretch as he rose. "See them soon." He assured quietly, finding his trunk. It had his name on it, but he'd also taken to decorating it with some colored dyes, and one spill that looked suspiciously like wine.

Ah, but what to wear... Obviously something that was going to get dirty. Work clothes, really; though he tried to keep his clothes in as good and lovely condition as he could, he knew that there were many dirty days ahead. While before Impression he used to bemoan having to wear something less than perfect, now that he had found his missing piece, he found he didn't care quite as much. Whatever he had to do to make sure his beautiful and handsome blue was happy was just fine for C'lusi.

So he chose a black tunic, a pair of khaki slacks, and pulled his hair back into a loose tail. He still made sure he looked good -- obviously -- but he did't stress about it as he might have had a day before. Feeling Macuith's hunger was doubly good incentive. Come, come-- we can sit next to one of the boys. Macuith seemed only too thrilled at the prospect, toddling out to creel a happy greeting to all his siblings present. Ah, Menankith - you look so well this morning. And Aurinkoth, your blue hide is striking after a good night's sleep. And hello Zenobiath, radiant as ever. The little blue walked around the table, wanting desperately to sit by Menankth or Aurinkoth... but C'lusi settled next to Alumet instead. He gave her a quick hug and a kiss to her head before taking a seat.

"Morning, all," he greeted the girls with his usual cheerfulness. "Did y'all sleep well? I don't know if it was just the excitement of yesterday, or Impression that did it, but I haven't felt so rested in Turns." Macuith, after one last pining look at his siblings, finally returned to C'lusi and settled patiently at his side.

Don't worry, baby. I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to hang out with your brothers. And maybe one of the other boys will want to sit next to you? There were still a handful of other weyrlings to rise yet, anyway. That comment seemed to cheer whatever disappointment he had felt considerably, and he forced his head under C'lusi's arm, hoping for a bite.

C'lusi didn't necessarily like staring at a dead herdbeast ... but he, thankfully, wasn't queasy. While he'd never butchered anything before today, he leaned over to cut some of the creature up, and tried to cut small squares for his blue. It was... gross, but Macuith all but drooled in his lap. "Here ya go, pet," he glanced at some of the girls' plates, trying to figure out how they were cutting, and what size. Too small probably wouldn't let Macuith chew; too large and he worried he'd choke.

Moooore. I'm starving.

R'gan was curled up sound asleep in his new bed, when a soft voice in his head woke him.. R'gan.. R'gan.. Mine, it is morning now. R'gan opened his eyes a crack. The sky was still dark, and glancing around the room all he saw was sleeping dragonets and weyrlings, curled up on their beds and couches. Is it? he asked with a sigh.

He turned his head. Basanuth was sitting up next to his bed, staring at him with wide blue eyes. R'gan sat up in bed, worry overcoming any lingering tiredness. Are you all right? he asked putting his hands on either side of the dragon's head. His eyes were blue. That was good, right?
Yes. Fine.
Hungry? he asked, with a sympathetic smile.
Hungry, yes. But not desperately.
But you're all right? You're not hurt? Do you feel OK?
I am fine, R'gan. he said, aparently amused by his lifemate's questions. R'gan sighed in relief and wrapped his arms around the blue's neck. Then what are you doing up? He felt like asking.
It is morning. And soon we will have our first lesson! Basanuth replied, even though he hadn't. We must be ready.

Giving in, R'gan sat up in his bed as Basanuth awkwardly scambled on after him, resting his head his his rider's lap. The momentary panic of thinking that something might be wrong had shocked R'gan awake, and dispelled any chance he'd have of getting back to sleep. At least it was nice to have a moment alone, before the maddness of twenty odd weyrlings scrambling to get ready which would surely follow. He put a hand on Basanuth's neck and began scratching it gently as he wondered what time it was.

Fortunately (for him, less so for those still sleeping) it wasn't long before the weyrlingmaster settled that question. He spotted his trunk and dragged it over to his bed, dressing quickly while Bas impatiently nudged at his legs. There was nothing but eagerness in the blue's mind regarding their first lessons, but R'gan was more apprehensive.

"Listen.." He said, as they were walking over to the dining hall. When you feel like something isn't fair, I want you to tell me, okay? But don't tell our teachers.
Why not? Bas said, his eyes narrowing. Our ideas are just. Why should we have to hide them?
R'gan stopped, putting a hand under Basanuth's chin. Do you remember what you said to me, even before we met? It's not enough to know something's wrong..
You have to do something about it. Basanuth finished. He hadn't forgotten the Touching either.
R'gan nodded. Right. And we aren't going to help anyone or change anything if we die as weyrlings. Right now our only job is to learn. Every mistake we make is a reason for them to doubt us. And we can't give them any reasons. He hardly needed to say it. In this, he knew the two of them were of the same mind.
We have to be perfect. Basanuth agreed..

Arriving in the dining hall, R'gan took a spot on the end of a table, pulling a knife and a flank of herdbeast towards him. He was no butcher by trade, but he spent enough time in the kitchens with his mother to have a basic understanding of what to do.

It was early.

Utterly exhausted from the events of yesterday, G'ran had hit his bed and been out in an instant, Elzebuth curled possessively against his chest while he slumbered. The sound of heavy boots had him instantly jolting awake, too used to feeling one of them in his ribs if he didn't respond fast enough. Elzebuth started immediately, his eyes whirling the color of hot coals as he instinctively sought out what had distressed His so.

We are here together. He assured his lifepartner. You are not in the mines. You are here with me.

G'ran's hands reached out instinctively to caress his dragon's perfect head, and Elzebuth crooned with unrestrained affection. Stumbling to his feet, it didn't take him long to locate his paltry belongings and dress. V'mel... there would be no softness there, not if first impressions were anything. He could feel his dragonet's hunger as though it was his own, and he trudged tiredly out to the dining hall with Elzebuth snaking forth before him.

Aurinkoth. Zenobiath. Menankith. Basanuth. Macuith~ He greeted his siblings in turn, but there was a definite purr in his tone for one of his blue brothers.

G'ran just grunted, carefully seating himself near Ichta and Nadry before reaching out to do his best with butchering the meat. Elzebuth eagerly took whatever he was offered, for G'ran was both trying to hurry and make sure he wouldn't choke his brown...

G'ran, it seemed, was not a morning person. In truth, he just wasn't a people person.

As if hearing from deep underwater, Le’x was only vaguely aware of the harsh noises that were startling most of the other weyrlings awake. His brown eyes were open when V’mel made his grand entrance, but they were utterly unfocused, and momentarily closed again. When he finally came to, he was already sitting up, and being shoved from behind, first on one shoulder, then the other, then in the center of his back. With a groan, he drew his knees up and hugged them, burying his face against his forearms, deliberately ignoring the assault and spiraling back into unconsciousness.

Moments later, he was half-asleep again when Kratoth’s voice blared urgently in his head like a klaxon. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT MINUTES ARE, BUT WE ONLY HAVE THREE LEFT.

Le’x came awake, but it was not a particularly coherent sort of “awake.” His eyes squinted hard against the harsh light of the room. Quickly-moving blobs of color bounced here and there at high speed, their foggy shapes slowly focusing into the forms of his fellow weyrlings, digging through storage chests. A deep gurgling sound rippled through his entire frame, shaking him to attention. It felt like he’d been gutted, his entire belly just removed, leaving a cavernous emptiness screaming to be filled.

The boy lurched to his feet, desperately turning around to look for something edible. It was only when Kratoth stood up against his hip, pawing at him with eyes whirling yellow-orange, that he realized that incredible hunger was his dragon’s. He barely took the time to dress, yanking on a loose white tunic and a pair of brown slacks. He wasn’t sure exactly where the tunic had come from; he’d grabbed it from his own clothes, but it was awfully big, the collar leaving a large open swath down his chest, even with the cords pulled tight. His hair was a mess, large clumps of it sticking out in random directions. In other words, he looked appropriately half-dressed as he rushed into the dining hall with Kratoth, not late, but definitely not early.

Where he lacked in the appearance department, he made up in deftness with a knife as he joined his fellows at the butchering table. He’d field-dressed quite a few animals on just as many hunts with his best friend. Well, his best human friend. With a reverent joy he’d never known before, he offered palm-sized chunks of the fresh meat to his beloved Kratoth.

Like the other weyrling's C'ryn had come into their new barracks and crashed with Aresoth after the feast. A part of him still wondered if all of this would be a dream and he would wake up to find he didn't impress and the eggs had not hatched yet. Aresoth had been quick to put those thoughts out of the young man's mind and he curled up beside him as they slumbered.

C'rynmine Aresoth's voice entering his mind caused the young man to stir. He had never been one to sleep in, early rising was something he was use to, and it seemed Aresoth was the same way. C'ryn's eyes opened and he sat up, not bothering to rub them as he did so. He could see it wasn't quiet yet time that they had to get up, but he figured it would be nice to be awake already.

The two slipped out of the bed they had crawled onto and C'ryn moved to sit with his back against the wall and his legs stretched out in front of him. Aresoth sat beside him, straight as he looked over at his sleeping clutchmates, C'ryn hand gently moving along his hide as it did so. Aresoth was content to sit there though C'ryn could feel that he was beginning to hunger as well as itch, in need of oiling. The two sat in silence as the morning marched on.

His eyes having been adjusted, C'ryn hadn't had to shield them when V'mel suddenly opened the door and then the curtains were pulled down. He watched and listened to the older man speak, but he said nothing and did nothing until he had left. Standing and stretching, C'ryn moved over to a leather bound trunk and moved it back to his bed, getting dressed, not seeming to care who saw him either. He dressed plainly, like he normally did, before he and Aresoth moved to the dinning hall. His hand raised to run through his hair instead of brushing it.

Good morning brothers and sister Aresoth greeted his siblings, who were there, as C'ryn and he entered. The bronze walked with pride as they moved to the table where they herd beasts and the rest of the meat were laid out. C'ryn moved alongside him, his back perhaps a bit straighter then he moved before, he was a bronze rider after all.

His eyes took in all who were there, lingering for a moment on G'ran and Elzebuth, who he gave a nod to, as Aresoth found a seat near his golden sister. The bronze gently nudged her with hsi nose before he sat down and C'ryn pulled the chair out to sit. He cut off a slab of meat and then started to cut that into smaller pieces, feeding them to Aresoth as the bronze ate happily.

This task at hand, C'ryn lifted his eyes to look around him, seeing the other weyrlings. "Good morning." Aside from that, he wondered what exactly to say.

Demanthra had fallen asleep pretty quickly when she had gotten to the Weyrling barracks the precious morning. Monath and curled up next to her, both tuckered out from all the day's excitement. Luckily, Demanthra had woken just a few moments before V'mel came loudly into the room, since she was excitement for classes to begin. Seeing the little green curled up beside her, it was obvious she had not been dreaming the previous day. The pangs of hunger filled her, realizing her dragon was probably already hungry. Her blue eyes turned to V'mel as he told them to get ready, though had to wince hearing the trunks get brought in. Her eyes locked onto her sister for a moment, who was flanking the Weyrlingmaster on the right. They shared a brief look, before Demanthra was up on her feet.

"Come on, Monath, time for us to get ready for the day. There is all kinds of adventures to be had and your golden sister is already up,"she roused her dragon. Monath's eyes had popped open at that, before she joined her rider at the trunks. The young woman had no trouble finding her own or getting herself dressed as quickly as possible. Then she was headed over to the dining room, humming softly as she did.

I like the song you are humming, mine, it is very pretty. Do you think we can sit near Zenobiath, please?she requested.

"As long as you behave, I think we can arrange that,"she nodded her head. She knew she had to do everything she had to with keeping her beloved green from having too many of her temper tantrums, like she had yesterday. The green bobbed her head as they entered and Demanthra grabbed some of the meat. She went and sat near some of her fellow werylings, giving a bright smile and 'good morning.' Then she got to work preparing the meat, having seen her sister do this enough for Gyafrith, though knowing her's needed to be smaller.

Ashlyn had managed a small rest at home, before she was up early enough to have Gyafrith fly them to where they needed to be. She got there with a moment to make sure she was perfectly presentable, before she followed behind V'mel. She watched one of her fellow assistants take care of taking down the curtains, remembering too well what it was like to be awoken in such a way. A chuckle came into her mind from her blue dragon, he remembered how startled she had been when that happened. The woman didn't miss the same startled look in the eyes of some of the Weyrlings as they were aroused from their dreams. She wasn't surprised that her sister was already awake and rearing to go. As V'mel left, she followed suit, to help oversee the feeding and things.

Nothing like a beautiful morning to get up to, right, mine?Gyafrith asked, causing a smile to come to her lips.

Ichta wasn't the type to have any sort of intensity to her, though her concentration was obvious as she neatly cut the meat to exact sizes. She paused, knife stilling, as Alumet piped up, looking up to the newest Goldrider and offering a small, yet genuine, smile and a nod. "That's right. And yours was Alumet, correct?" she hadn't quite noted everybody's name, but it was hard to ignore when someone, for obvious and very justified reasons, had gotten a few more callouts than the rest. As far as she was concerned, she was happier that way. At the mention of his name, the little blue's snout poked itself over the table with a small HWONK of inquisition. Hello Zenobiath's! he greeted cheerfully and Ichta gently ran the side of a hand (her palms were covered in meat juices, after all) along the side of his face to offer him another bite of his breakfast.

"He's definitely a happy little guy. If every morning starts with such infectious joy, I think I'm doomed to happy days," though from her tone, it was obvious that she was doomed in a good way as Aurinkoth looked up at his, a small fleck of purple mixing in with the oranges and blues that shifted as she slowly sated his hunger.

He bugle-honked at Menankith in greeting as the brown and His joined them. Was his hungry? I think she is a little bit, but apparently the big man who frightened mine this morning says we have to eat first. Which of course, he didn't realize was a potentially triggering sentence for his brother. It is too early to eat right away, Aurinkoth. The Klah will be enough. If I eat first thing, it upsets my stomach. Ichta offered quietly to Hers, who in turned, happily shared it with Menankith. Mine says food too early in her belly will upset it. Helpful! Maybe.

Aurinkoth glanced under the table towards Macuith as he and his settled close to Alumet and Zenobiath. Hello! Did you sleep well, Macuith? Are you ready to play all day? It is going to be a wonderful day - our first full day with ours! How exciting! Ichta quietly reached down to nudge one of his head nubs to offer him another slice of meat. He chomped it down gratefully.

As G'ran took a seat, Ichta looked over at him thoughtfully, brows furrowing together at the look on his face. Was he...not a morning person? She offered him a small smile, but otherwise left him undisturbed. He was feeding his, after all. Aurinkoth, however, brightly returned the greeting of Elzebuth. Good Morning, Elzebuth! It's a new day! Time for adventure! Let's do something fun! Which, of course, was a possible way to get into trouble if he let Elzebuth lead the way - just maybe, though.

You know....

Ten minutes wasn't a lot of time when everything tended to look the same. R'am sighed and looked around at the people and the dragonets and then just hung his head and sighed. Well, this is his life now. Constantly taking orders and having lessons because he got picked. He didn't regret it for a single second, he just didn't know the change to his life was so... immediate. Again, maybe he did, but it didn't...It still managed to catch him by surprise.

Lemath was circling his legs like a cat would, rubbing herself against R'am's legs, making little crooning noises and the occasional trumpet in joy when she greeted her siblings.

Hello everyone! I'm here! Lemath is here so we can all start playing soon! Of course the dragon didn't know what was going on. With a 'might' flap of checkered wings, she was off, going to find the nearest sibling who'd greet her with nuzzles and play nips.

Meanwhile R'am was looking at the trunks, trying to identify his own. "Should have paid more attention to what it looked like, to be honest. Lemath, don't get underfoot!" He watched as she weaved between possessions and he just shook his head. "Oh boy. D...Do I chase her?"

Her brother's arrival merited a bright smile, her lips gracing his cheek in turn, "Beautiful as always, brother mine. I have never slept so well." Zenobiath gently butted his fingers, a greeting before she gently nuzzled his Blue. Macuith. Dearest brother. Macuith belonged to the one that was most important to Hers. That made him instantly important. Aresoth got an affectionate nuzzle and then...Ah. Monath! The gold left her own's side to see the Green, nuzzling her and crooning lovingly to the Green. Monath was her beloved sister, and while she loved all of her siblings, there were a few that were closer. Good morning, all of you. I am so glad to see you all well. She crooned this to all of her present clutchsibs, before turning to go back to Hers, stomach still not full. She had to make sure everyone was well though! It was the most important thing.

Alumet watched the little girl as she trotted back, smiling her small smile. Was it bad to feel so distanced from the other weyrlings? Like she didn't quite fit in? It was a bit disheartening but Zenobiath had pointed out that their job was now to make sure everyone else was happy, and she could concern herself with her own play and happiness later. That was Alumet's job as well, "Yes." Came her answer to Ichta, "Alumet is my name. I love how much energy Aurinkoth has. I think it is good for all of the clutch to have such energetic little ones."

The newly minted Dr'stan had already been awake, stirring somewhat after the fourth hour of the morning. It was difficult to sleep in without H'sad's arms around him. He had not strayed from those arms since H'sad had Impressed Cinonth. Even Cynosuth's warm body tucked into his side could not quite keep him asleep for that lack. And so, when V'mel at last arrived, he had been awake for some time. He was faintly amused by the Weyrlingmaster's words, for this was the least responsibility that he had had in a number of Turns. However, there was not denying that keeping Cynosuth hale and healthy was the most important thing that he had ever been tasked with doing.

Dr'stanmine, are the others so very young? the little Green asked, reflecting on how the dragonhealer's thoughts tended to regard his fellow weyrlings. Not so very young, dearheart. A little younger, perhaps. Some quite a lot younger. But not so very young. They shouldered a heavy burden, and if the weight of it settled lightly upon his shoulders, well, that was no great surprise. He already had a working relationship with V'mel, and apart from the actual drills they would be receiving in the future, everything they were to be taught was a lesson he had already learned.

Perhaps he could be of some use in helping the others, if need be. Come, we had better hurry, or we'll be late. If he was quiet, it was surely only due to concentration, and not... a certain someone who was not present. Ah, but best not to dwell on such thoughts, lest he alarm Cynosuth. The dragonet creeled softly, aware of a sudden hunger. Dressing was a matter of course, and simple enough. His gear was easily and quickly sorted. Dr'stan had never been one to dillydally.

Now we'd better sort out some breakfast for you, my dear heart. She ranged beside him, and just a little behind. Her delicate size made crossing the distance just a bit harder, but fortunately they didn't have far to go. Dr'stan quirked an eyebrow when he realized that V'mel had already had the herdbeast all but prepared for them. A simple enough task, chopping meat that his darling might eat. Perhaps it might have been best to try to be social, but at this point Dr'stan's focus was entirely set upon chopping the herdbeast before him.

Hello! Cynosuth called softly to her siblings, a certain hopeful note to her voice. Perhaps if hers made friends than he would not be lonely, and maybe she could see her dear brothers and sisters more than ever.

Ahh, the rampant energy of the young, tumbling about, just happy to be alive, ready to see everything and do everything all at once....

V'mel hated it.

Well, not hated, exactly, because it could be useful. It was horridly undignified though, and every batch of hatchlings on this first day reminded him of just how far they had to go to be ready, how much work he and his people had to do, and why it was so important. They were children, and he had to make them into soldiers, adults the weyr could be proud of.

He'd noticed those that'd fought during the hatching, and though he did not know their motives, he kept a keen eye out. Sooner or later they all'd come filtering in, from the largest, the rare gold, looking as regal as she ought, down to a gaggle of tiny greens that would have almost been an afterthought if one, bonded to some whip-crack of a girl, hadn't attempted to climb the table to gorge herself. The girl'd found it funny, at least until V'mel had come stomping over to loom, horrible and threatening, and informed her that since her green had clearly had enough, she could get to work on chores early. That'd stymied the pair, though he'd caught the dirty look the girl had tossed his way as they'd been led off to get to work.

He wasn't here to make friends. He was here to make sure they lived.

With a sharp eye on the marked candle burning unobtrusively in one corner of the room, he and his assistants kept watch, ready to intervene if anyone looked on the verge of choking their dragonet. "Today," His voice boomed over the din, gravely and rough, demanding attention. "Will be an 'introduction' day. Some of you are new to the weyr, and will need shown around. Others of you've lived here long enough to know your way, but will need to be made familiar with your new boundaries. You will be brought up to speed on your schedules, and you will be expected to keep to them after today. Any deviation, tardiness, or breaking of curfew will be punished. Any attempt to alter your schedule in any way that puts your own needs before your dragon's will be punished. You will have chores, and you will, as a group, also be expected to keep your wing of the barracks clean, and yourselves presentable at all times. This afternoon there will be an assesment, as I have been made aware that some of you may be lacking in basic reading and writing skills, which is something the Weyr seeks to rectify immediately, especially for those of you partnered with brown, bronze, or gold dragons."

His eyes dragged over the crowd, razor-sharp for any unhappy faces or whispering, before flicking to his assistants to see if any had noticed something he'd missed during his small speech.

((Sorry for the delay, aaaaah! Basically day one is really a social day for the kids, and a chance for everyone to introduce themselves as they get dragged around the weyr and made to take writing tests. The Weyr really does insist on literacy in its riders, so if anyone has an illiterate weyrling, expect that it would be noted, and they would be put in supplementary lessons.))
