Long after the weyrlings had been sent to bed and the candidates ordered back to their barracks, the food put away, and the music dying down, Roknhin still sat at one of the tables, trying to clear his head.

The feast was the first time in months that he had seen many of his candidate friends, some of which had impressed, though most hadn’t. This was largely by design, but he was going to have to face their questions and their sympathy at some, and it would be rude not to show up to show support. His strategy for the feast was to act so aggressively happy that no one could possibly question that he was totally fine with everything. Apparently, this involved a lot of drinking.

Though he might just have pulled it off, his plan seemed to have backfired, as before midnight he was hammered, alone, and couldn't remember where he was sleeping these days.

He had a room now at least, mostly thanks to Jalarus, but he hadn't been staying there long enough that he was confident he could find his way back to it drunk. Often, late at night, he'd try to walk home absentmindedly and find himself heading somewhere else instead. Sometimes he'd end up at Jal's room. That wasn't so bad. Usually he'd stop in and say hello or stay and drink with his friend for a while. More often, he found himself wandering back towards the candidate barracks and would have to turn around with another pang of loss. Twelve turns of habit were hard to break. Once or twice, he'd be half way down a tunnel when he realized this was the way to E'ion's room. That was the worst. That was the last thing he wanted to be reminded of, even more so than the fact that he'd never ride a dragon.

Giving up, he'd folded his arms on the table and rested his head down. How long would this go on, anyway? Hopefully he would wake up some time before they started cleaning things up in the morning. He didn't want to get in anyone's way..

Honestly, E'ion hadn't stayed sober the entire night. Many of his charges were now Weyrlings, and he was proud! While he might be sad, it was time to celebrate. Not to mention seeing a Gold in the clutch. It was a phenomenal sign, a great gift to the Weyr. It was in this state, with a rather touchy Araeth, that he stumbled back to his weyr alone. The worst part was that even drunk, he could not sleep, lamenting all night long about the loss of the person that he loved. Yes...He was in love with Roknhin. Sure, the man was younger, and a former candidate, but feelings were what they were. He even tried curling against his angry Green, whose eyes whirled momentarily orange and white as she pressed her nose to him...still, sleep eluded him. It was why, in the early hours of the morning, he tied back his waving hair, and stumbled to his feet.

They hadn't even started cleaning anything yet, as he made his way back to where they had celebrated the hatching. Moving around through the tables, he was too distracted at first to notice someone sleeping....until he finally saw him. Roknhin. It felt like his heart was being yanked out of his chest all over again, pain bringing tears to his eyes. Rubbing at his gaze, he finally made his way to the sleeping boy, reaching down to gently rub his shoulders, "Hey, sleepy....wake up." It was softly spoken, "You shouldn't be sleeping down here."

He didn't think he'd closed his eyes for more than a minute... So when Roknhin felt a gentle hand softly shaking his shoulder, he assumed it would be someone from the feast telling him to move along before he fell asleep here.

When he opened his eyes, however, the gather grounds were deserted, even more so than when he'd fallen asleep. He rubbed his eye and turned his head, wondering who had woken him. "E'ion?" he muttered slowly. He must be dreaming, he thought. Why else would E'ion want to talk to him? He often featured in his dreams though. Still, as the haze of waking faded, the person in front of him didn't fade with it. "Oh! Hey!" he said, hastily standing up as soon as he realized he wasn't, which turned out to be a big mistake. He covered his eyes with his hand and groaned, suddenly feeling light headed, not to mention nauseous. He was still half drunk but already his head was pounding. Not a great start.

He put a hand on the table to steady himself, sinking back onto the bench more unsteadily than he'd meant to. "I don't feel good.." he muttered, even though the last thing he wanted was to make E'ion worry. He just didn't have much of a filter right now. He thought he'd been alright, but if he was still this drunk now he really must have gone too far.

He lifted his eyes, looking at the man in front of him. Seeing him again, he couldn't help but think about the last time they were together. He was sure he'd had some reason for the things he said back then, only.. He couldn't quite remember what those were right now. All he could remember was E'ion's hands, E'ion's lips.. Especially when they were smiling.

"E'ion.. I miss you. Can we go back to being friends again?" he said, pouting.

Poor thing had to be feeling terribly ill. His hands traced the other's cheeks gently, his fingers delicate, careful. Faranth, but seeing Roknhin this drunk was strange to him, so foreign that he couldn't help but let himself smile at the other's words, "I wonder why you don't feel good, sweet one." It was spoken kindly, softly. Even with his heart aching as it was, he was not going to say no to this man...the man who'd stolen his heart, who made him feel so...sharding HAPPY. He hated admitting how in love he was. How much he hoped that the other would love him in turn. It ached.

"Ah...Y-yes...If that is what you like, but for now, love, let us get you to sleep." He tried to turn the other towards his Weyr, trying to guide him.

"Probably all the alcohol.." Roknhin replied back honestly, not realizing that E'ion was probably being sarcastic. He covered E'ion's hand with his own as it grazed his cheek, leaning into the warm touch. His fingers tightened around the other's hand as he moved it to his lips briefly. But the next moment his eyes and his head lulled and his grip on E'ion's hand relaxed, content to let himself be dragged along by it instead. What was he thinking? He never drank this much.

With no presence of mind to argue, he followed the rider back docilely, not even sure where they were heading. "You're not just saying that because you're nice?" he asked. He'd take it though. Even if it was just out of pity, or because he was drunk and E'ion was way too indulgent. He was just happy E'ion was talking to him again.. And that they were holding hands. It that was all it took, he'd do this all the time..

He draped his arms over E'ion's shoulder, leaning on him from behind. "E'ion.. I like you. Don't listen to anything I say sober, it's all lies."

"Of course not, beloved." He would never say anything unless he meant it...not that his dear Roknhin would understand it. Lithe fingers danced against his waist, a soothing gesture. The kiss to his flesh had his heart aching. Oh, how could he do this to himself all over again? It was almost like his first love all over again...but it almost seemed as though he'd been wrong. His lips moved to press a delicate kiss to his beloved's forehead, a smile on his face, despite the pain. Oh, he had to wonder at Rok's nature....at whether the drunken self was more honest, or whether he, himself, could trust this side of the boy. Why did he have to fall so for someone he'd once helped care for? It was his own personal form of torture, "Oh? Is it? You seemed rather convinced of yourself when last we talked."

The Rider led him back to his own Weyr, Araeth out feeding so that she didn't have to deal with any sort of affection from her Rider. She thought it was disgusting to watch...which amused E'ion ever so. How had he ended up with such a strange dragon. He shifted Rok to his bed, sitting down and guiding the other to sit right beside him, "I do not know what to make of it any more."
