It was a typical night at the clinic. A few trolls came and went, some with appointments but most of them walk ins. It interrupted a lot of experiments but Flydra didn't mind much. Every case was a chance to practice and better her skills with medicine. She would never let another siren face permanent damage again the way she had failed to save Austri's arms.

"Remember. Only take the pills every six hours." Flydra patted the troll on the shoulder before showing them the door. Her waiting room looked empty for now but just in case, she left a bell on the table with instructions to ring it to get her attention from the laboratory. She also fluffed a few of the pillows on the couches to make them look presentable. It didn't seem like anyone had touched the magazines which meant she didn't have to straighten them.

It looked like most trolls weren't interested in 'Inner Piece', the medical journal she had subscribed to. Nor had they wanted to check out the lampshade catalog she'd picked up from some shopping with her girls. She would have to look for new literature to cycle in. It was hard for her to understand the interests of the common troll.

While she could, Tevini wanted to take advantage of her time in Civisect. She'd come with Etsali during their traveling, eager to get a closer look at the technological advancements the city had to offer. It was intimidating to see so many highbloods around but she reminded herself it was worth it. If she could learn something, she was going to make herself get out there.

So far she'd stopped by a few shops to see what parts were for sale, what books she could use, and what designs she could steal a glance at. It'd been wonderful, though she doubted Etsali had been especially interested. That's why she'd told the orangeblood she'd handle the rest of her stops on her own tonight and would meet up with her again before sunrise. The thief would know where to find her. Etsali had a knack for showing up just in time without any logical reason for how.

Her next stop was a local clinic. Tevini wanted to find more information for working on her project for Polair. She didn't know much about medical technological prosthetics but it was becoming clear that someone in the swamp needed to start getting a handle on them. They could only rely on supply runs so far. Someone needed to be able to make and repair them in the actual village in case anything went wrong. They wouldn't always have time or resources to wait for someone to run out and come back with what they needed. She'd heard good things about the Happy Harbor Clinic and figured she'd grab some brochures and ask some basic maintenance questions of the staff. Then she'd ask about any experimental options being currently developed. After that it'd be off to the next stop, dinner.

"Hello, I was wondering if you do drop-ins?" The girl entered the building and approached the front desk, pausing to ring the bell. The place looked empty which meant she'd hopefully get lots of time for questions.

"Yes, we do general checkups as well as prosthetic tune-ups. If you have more specific needs, I suggest making an appointment so I can get the equipment ready." Flydra said her usual well rehearsed speech as she looked towards the troll ringing the bell. It was always good to get more business. The better her clinic did, the more experience she would have when trying to rise through the military medical ranks.

Imagine her surprise when instead of a troll, she found a monster.

"You." She hissed, her eyes widening and her metallic hand clenching the desk. She slammed her other fist down on a button that caused shutters to come crashing down to block the door from opening, preventing the redblood from fleeing out the way she came.

"It's good to see you again." Her tone made it clear it was anything but.

"Ah-" She didn't get to respond before a loud slam and suddenly the door was blocked. Startled and afraid, she looked at the other troll and felt her blood run cold. She was taller now but there was no doubt about it. Those horns, that hair... those eyes.

She still didn't even know her name.

"Wait!" Tevini stumbled backwards fearfully. She saw the tealblood was wearing a prosthetic arm now. It appeared that she worked in this clinic, possibly even owned it. She'd have the homefield advantage. Glancing around for weapons to protect herself with, the redblood kept her back to the wall. Nervously, she reached for her gun.

"Stay back or I'll shoot!"

It wasn't that Flydra was afraid of nails or needles. That wasn't why she hesitated. It was the fear of losing another arm, the floating projectiles that moved unpredictably without warning. She watched the redblood with eyes full of hatred and murderous intent. For now, she focused on locking the drawers behind the counters to ensure the b***h couldn't pull her equipment out of it to use it against Flydra herself.

There were a few things to take care of before launching into battle. She reached to grab the next one. Pressing the phone to her ear, she dialed in dear Lorata's number, hoping her precious friend was at home. The seadweller could provide backup if she was in the area.

"We can stay like this as long as you like. I don't mind." Flydra smiled at Tevini, listening to the ringing on the line.

Flydra was smart to lock the cabinets. Tevini watched dismayed as access to potential weapons was cut off. Frantically she looked for more on her side of the room, ones Flydra wouldn't be able to reach in time. There were some magazines spread around the seating area as well as a lamp. She could break the lamp and use the shards, perhaps. At the faint sound of beeping, the redblood quickly snapped back to looking at Flydra and froze. No, she couldn't allow her to call for help. If Flydra called for back up or drones, her identity would be compromised again. So she did the only thing she could do.

She silenced her.

The phone slammed into Flydra's mouth to gag her, while the cord began to wrap around her neck in an effort to strangle her. Tevini grimaced at the idea of choking the girl to death and hoped she could merely force her unconscious and then figure a way out. Just to be on the safe side, she pulled at the cord where it attached to the wall and tried to rip it out.

"I've no intention of staying! Let me go!" She kept her gun aimed to the tealblood, threatening to shoot.

Pain smacked her right in the teeth and a little bit of blood dribbled out of Flydra's mouth as the phone cord wrapped around her face and neck a few times, pulling itself tight. She staggered and crashed down against the counter as she clawed at it in a battle for breath. There was no way she was going to let this happen. Her motto wasn't "never die" for a reason. Something clicked inside her prosthetic and she aimed it at Tevini before releasing a dart.

It shot straight at the redblood's chest, deflecting off of some weird metallic pendant and hitting the girl in the arm. Well whatever, it would still get into her bloodstream. The dart began to release a tranquilizer into Tevini's system that would make her woozy and less competent at using this cursed telekinesis. Finally, Flydra untangled the cord well enough to refill her lungs.

"You- will-" She gasped, her quiet and dreamy voice colored with a heavy rasp after the trauma of almost choking, "DIE." She charged at Tevini and knocked her into one of the back rooms with her. As Tevini flailed and struggled, Flydra grabbed at a familiar old friend.

She faced the redblood, scalpel in hand.

"Ahh!" Tevini hissed in pain as the dart deflected into her arm. Afraid of it's mystery contents, she let out another cry as she strained to pull it out. In her distraction, the tealblood broke free of the phone cord and suddenly they were in another room and she was scrambled against an operating table. The eyes that burned into hers were truly terrifying. The song of metal scraping metal filled the room as Flydra grabbed for a scalpel.

"No!" She didn't know if it had anything left in it but Tevini went for it anyway, She stabbed the dart into Flydra's shoulder and tried to roll away. A feeling of vertigo flooded her and Tevini grabbed at a surface to steady herself. Fleeing from Flydra's attacks, she gasped in pain at the slashes that connected while she tried to look for any extra weapons she could use. Now that they were in another room, Flydra hadn't had time to lock anything up. Firing off a few shots of her gun, Tevini attempted to force Flydra's movement. Finally she'd had an idea.

Attempting to either force or lead Flydra closer, she waited for an opportune time and then used her power to try and pull one of the operating table lights down and swing it down at Flydra's head. It wasn't an honorable way to fight but Tevini didn't have time for honor. Nor did her powers appear to be working as strong now. Instead of a clean full on hit, the light came down but failed to knock the doctor out cold. Unsure if this was because of the drug or her lack of good control over her powers, all Tevini knew was that this development was not good for her. She had to keep moving.

Something hard and painful bashed in the top of Flydra's head and her body fell forward, arms reaching out to half catch herself from eating the floor. Her pigtails were falling out of their clasps now and her eyes burned with a vile hatred for her opponent. Tevini was destroying everything. Her body, her business and her building. She could not tolerate this.

"Good try but you forgot-" Lunging at Tevini, Flydra grabbed her arm with her cold metallic hand, a needle pressing into the redblood's skin and drawing a small sample of the blood into a vial. "Heroes never die." She whispered her catchphrase into the girl's ear before pulling back.

The intensity of her glare made her message clear which one of them was the hero. And what would happen to the loser.

"Nghk-" Her vision was starting to blur from the pain of her injuries and the chemicals flowing through her body from Tevini's earlier strategy of stabbing Flydra with her own dart.

"Get off!" Tevini yelped in fear as Flydra continued producing needles and vials from the edges of her vision. The doctor was truly terrifying with her endless determination, staggering after her like a half dead zombie. The drug appeared to be affecting both of them and Tevini was impressed how how quickly Flydra was still able to lunge around. The tealblood had tenacity in her.

"I'm not dying yet!" She yelled, mustering up her strength to push Flydra off of her. Stumbling away, she knocked over anything she could to try and slow the tealblood's path. Vision blurring she didn't have the energy to check behind her and break the vial of blood. All of her instincts screamed at her to get away. She could deal with the rest later.

Forcing the locked door open with her psionics, Tevini fled into the street. She ran as fast as her feet would carry her, far away into the city lights. Looking for a place to hide, Tevini scanned the shops while wondering what her best chance was. Head spinning from blood loss and the drug, she was going to pass out any moment. There! Heading into a small alley behind a costume shop, she crawled out of sight and waited for Etsali to come find her.
