Downtown Ashdown
June 21th, 2017. 20:00

After the individual attacks on a few visitors, things had been... relatively quiet as far as sightings of Shun ******** with stuff. Apart from the whole dealing with the charter business, Shun, himself had been spending what free time he had trying to discern just what the ******** was going on. And now that the former was done with, that gave him more time to deal with this.

Magic was involved to some capacity. He got that much. Someone or something was feeding on Fear, and they may have been using some sort of ability to mimic him in some way. Aside from that, he had been able to narrow down a potential list of people who could actually be involved as far as people who worked under Kaitou. He just wasn't sure how the two halves were interconnected. Not yet, anyway.

He wasn't making a whole lot of headway yet, not with his resources being substantially more limited right now.

But as with all things, sometimes, just being in the right place at the right time can be enough to give someone just what they needed. Which was why tonight he was now chasing a man through the streets. This man wore a very similar black and gold leather coat, but a hood had been pulled up over his head. A bandage was wrapped around his left hand. The man being chased was also really fast. Shun was taking all the shortcuts he could without outright teleporting to catch up. They were still in the open. He didn't want to tap into his magic right here and now. That said, this was making it pretty damn hard for him to keep up.

Some people were shoved off to the side during the chase. Others noted the two appeared to be heading towards an old unused warehouse on the outskirts of the downtown area.

Quote:
Here we are with the finale of Path of Retribution. Anyone and everyone is allowed to join in, even if they haven't yet been involved with this plot. Feel free to hop on in if you'd like. As a heads up, there is a potential of receiving bodily harm with this rp though it shouldn't be anything too serious.

This thread will be updated July 6th 23:59pm CDT, though there might be some smaller details posted depending

It was falling towards summer, and sunsets were later and later; there was a general unspoken agreement that if Alexis was out after the sun had started to set, it was probably because they shouldn't have been walking too much in the first place and had strained their leg. And all the burns. Loose, loose fabric, and for what felt like the first time in probably half a decade they'd just worn a damn t-shirt without any longer sleeves underneath: after all, the burns covered up any other scars. They could deal with their skin being a little weird, if it meant - it meant a lot of things.

It wasn't hard to spot Kuroda and Nega-Kuroda. Not a lot of people wore black-and-gold leather jackets in Ashdown. The speed at which they were running, though? That was interesting. Alexis pushed their frayed ends back, adjusted their beanie (because ********, dude, they hadn't decided on a new hairstyle yet), and took off after them - not running, they couldn't have run if they'd wanted to (and they did), but taking shortcuts - weaving - listening in on conversations. They knew where the duo was headed.

(Maybe if they helped Shun they could get the monitor off, a little voice whispered, because it could never be a selfless act.)

Alexis was smallish, wiry, and flexible. There were shortcuts available to them that Shun wouldn't have known, even without the rooftops on their side. They kept up well enough, with a keen eye and willful ignorance of how the burns ******** hurt when they stretched. Not too well -- but just well enough to not lose sight of their target.

Jeremiah had contacts in the town and people who reported to him when he needed to know about things. The thing, in question, of course was the sight of what looked like Kuroda running through town. When he got another message, of a second Kuroda-

He was moving (after a short conversation with Algie and an agreement that this was better if they were both involved).

With everything said and done, Jeremiah had found himself strengthened when it came to his abilities to move around. He took note of where the pair was heading from his intel, appearing on the roof on one of the old warehouses and looking around with bright eyes.

It was not as if Jeremiah could not move around as necessary but he had told Kuroda that handling this on his own was unwise. Besides, visual proof and then actual proof of their being a second? Especially with all the testimonies around town now ...

This would be a way to proving his lack of involvement if things did not, of course, go south. Besides, this was clearly something that the nobility needed to be handling if it was, in fact, a creature of the other world involved.

It was important to Alg to be involved, partly because his husband's name was in question, but also because he actually did give a damn about what was happening to Shun. Besides with the danger more bodies may be necessary if things got to a rough spot.

He hitched a 'ride' with Jeremiah, prepared enough if it should come down to something magical.

Fox had received a text stating that not one, but two Kuroda's had been seen, and the officer ran a hand through her hair with a frown. OK. This was fine. Everything was fine. This was fine. Bento had been removed from her chest and it was off into the streets for Officer Blisskiss. After all: At least one person was going to need to be shot in all of this and she didn't think Officer Mercer needed another bullet.

In all seriousness, she wasn't hoping to be shot.

But there was a certain fire in her veins that said You started this, so follow up on it. Which was good and fine. She just had to hope that nothing too crazy started up on her way out to meet Jeremiah (and ultimately, the darling husband as well) at the warehouse.

Maybe.

Right place at the right time seemed to favor more than just Shun Kuroda; enter one Shiloh Beaumont, trying to decompress after the charter fiasco. It was late, but it really wasn't unusual for Shiloh to be out around 8, besides the fact that it was in the heart of summer and the sun still shone proudly on the looming horizon. The difference here was the fact he had Jamie with him, because hey, when your boyfriend gets mugged in the middle of the night it just made sense to stick close to him for a while.

Now, despite all the action going on, Shiloh sure as ******** hadn't forgotten about the thing with Kuroda.

Which is why he had to double take when he saw a hooded figure running away, followed by... well, Shun, of all things.

"Did you ******** see that?" Shiloh was standing there on the street corner, still a little dumbfounded. "I think that was—" The murmurs from the crowd was starting to fill in the details. 'Were they heading towards the industrial park?' 'I think there's an abandoned warehouse down there.' '******** kids...' "I think that was Kuroda. You saw that, right?" But there were two of them, so—

    He was running.

Threat of re-mugging aside, Jamie was here to enjoy Shiloh's company more than anything else. Watching his back was a thing, of course, and whenever a bush so much as rustled too much he gave it the stink eye, but as he breathed in the evening air he focused more on decompressing. That, and spending time with his favorite person. They deserved a bit of downtime after everything that happened.

Unfortunately, it didn't seem like they'd get much of it.

"Wait, yeah- Yeah, I saw it. That... he definitely looked like Kuroda." A lot of the animosity Jamie felt had cleared since the whole charter incident, if only because it started to become pretty apparent something weird was going on.

"Should we follow?" Jamie asked, already stepping off the sidewalk. "Who the heck d'you think he was chasing?"

Jeremiah, of course, caught sight of Fox once she was within view. "Be right back," he told Algie, "I am going to pick-up Fox and bring her back here."

Which meant that he disappeared from Algie's side, appearing in a darkened spot in the alleyway. "Fox!" he called out, waving her over. His eyes were the most obvious thing and a direct giveaway of who it was that called out (besides the voice and accent, because it was most definitely out of the ordinary).

"We haven't gotten eyes on them again but they were heading this way." A gesture of his hand, Jeremiah pointing upward towards the roofs. "Keeping a look out up there until something more noticeable occurs." His lips twitched. "If you'll step closer, I can get you up there as well."

For those who were waiting at the warehouse, they'd see the hooded one run into the building first. By that point, he had taken a decent lead over Shun, just due to the sheer speed at which he ran. But now that there weren't really any prying eyes of civilians in the area, Shun ran past some old construction equipment, into the shadows that they cast from some of the lights in the area.

And then he was gone.

The sound of a struggle could then be heard coming from within the warehouse. A single gunshot had gone off, before a soft clattering hit the ground as a handgun skidded across the concrete floor.

Within the fairly empty space, Shun wrestled the hooded figure on the ground. After a few moments, the hooded one managed to throw the suspended detective off to the side roughly, but during all that conflict his hood had been removed. Lighting inside the warehouse was dim, but for those who could still see without much issue, it became very apparent that this guy didn't actually look that much like Shun at all, attire aside.

Yes he had an eyepatch over the left eye, but his facial features weren't really all that much alike. Not to mention a different hairstyle.

"You really think you can take me on your own?" the no-longer-hooded figure sneered. Appearance aside, his voice still matched that of Shun's, with exception of missing some of the nuances of how he spoke exactly.

Quote:
Phase 1!
The culprit has been... unmasked! Unmasked but uncaught. A few things will need to be done to keep him down.
The hooded one has 85HP!
Player characters have 30HP!

To attack, roll 2d6. First die is the damage you deal. Second die is how much damage he does to you in retaliation.
To heal, roll 1d4 and state your target. This is the amount you heal.
To Restrain, roll 1d100. This number must beat the hooded one's current HP total. You will automatically take 4 damage with each attempt.

Also bonuses!
If you have offensive powers and are using them, add 2 to your attack damage.
If you have defensive powers and are using them, subtract 2 from your received damage.
If you have some sort of healing power, add 2 to your heal.
And when attempting to restrain, if you have an ability that can stun/slow/restrict/etc, add 5 to your roll.

There are no real rounds for this first phase. However you must wait for someone else to post before you may take another action. If you haven't hopped in yet, there's still time! Once this phase ends, though, it will be locked to newcomers. This phase will end whenever the hooded one has been successfully restrained.

As her name was called, Fox found herself quite easily picking out Jeremiah in the darkness - those darn eyes, she wasn't sure if they were something she'd like to have or not - and half-jogging over to him. "Sounds like we're still eyes and ears to the ground, then," she frowned, then looked up to the roof.

"Up and away?" Hopefully with less desire to throw up than the slowly fading mark on her wrist would have left her with moving to much stranger places her body wasn't meant to be. In fact, it was barely a blink before she and Jeremiah were up on the roof. Certainly, Fox reeled a bit from surprise, however she recovered much more quickly and walked, cautiously, to the edge of the roof to start scoping the area.

Even from her somewhat crouched position, Fox's shoulders were visibly relaxed....then they tensed. Without glancing back she held up one finger as the first 'Kuroda' entered the building. She held up a second when she spotted the second, then paused.............okay, she wasn't sure where he went. Be had just Benji'd the hell away.

It was the gunshot that struck Fox, and she visibly froze. Clearly, this was a bad time for her last run-in with a gun to be playing through her head. Ohhhhhh no, no, no nononononono....She was ready? Ready! Not ready. Was she ready? She wasn't ready THIS WOULD BE FINE Get your s**t together. She quickly slapped a palm to her cheek to ground herself with a deep breath, then was up.

She turned to walk back to Jeremiah. Either he'd tell her how to get down or...well..he'd take her down.

For clarification on the mechanics: Fox has a passive defensive power, are her options use that mechanic for defense and don't use an offensive power, or can more than one apply? I imagine this would count for Jeremiah as well @ look at these Tank Builds.

Alexis took what was probably the simplest way of things - they made their way into the warehouse behind everyone else, stepping lightly, and stayed in the shadows. In the last week and a half they'd been stabbed, set on fire, verbally abased - for once in their ******** life maybe they'd let someone else bodyslam the guy first.

They managed to find a suitable hiding spot, kept hidden by crates and construction equipment, and watched everything start to play out.

The moment the gunshot rang out, ice was not so much creeping up along the back of his neck and visible as it was just there. Apparently it was more of an instinctive reaction, especially after what had happened.

"I suppose that gives us our direction," he said, taking a breath. With a short nod given to both Fox and Algie, they were whisked away to below at the entrance way.

Perhaps the stranger wasn't expecting a man who looked like a very typical english professor to come barreling down on him like a bat out of hell but here we were.

Alg charged, and with some wrestling skills that the real Shun Kuroda was familiar with, grappled the stranger, lifted him, and slammed him to the ground before securing him in a hold that he would not be getting out of anytime soon (even with a short struggle).. not with the Professor also using his particular tactile power to make it so they simply didn't want to fight.

Shun had just been about to charge right back at the other man when several familiar faces appeared out of ******** nowhere. And then Alg bum rushed the guy, tackling him to the ground. While the man tried his best to struggle against the professor, he soon went slack as the will to fight left him.

"What the ********> asked Shun, "What the hell are you all doing here?"

He didn't get to wait too long for a response before he noticed something going on with the restrained man. It appeared as though a shadow had just left him. This shadow shifted around, taking no real form before six golden slits for eyes appeared. These eyes darted about before a few spine-like things formed towards its back, like a dog raising its heckles.

"Oh Algie," a voice spoke out. It sounded just like Jeremiah, "I never knew you'd wish to tackle another man like so."

The shadow moved forth back towards Algernon, as claws appeared to rake at him.

Shun was on the move immediately. He summoned forth his dagger as he moved in to strike back at this other creature, "What the ******** are you?"

Claws met with the blade, locked in place as the six eyes focused in on Kuroda.

"I am the hunter. And you all are my prey."

Quote:

The final boss is here!
Each round it will attack 1-2 characters. You may take one action in each round. There'll be roughly one new round each day.
Attack: 1d6
Heal: 1d4

Bonuses from the previous round apply to this as well. As a note for Tank characters, your HP is instead your stamina or MP, in a sense. Rather than taking physical damage, any attacks on your character will drain at your energy reserves instead.

Next round will be at midnight tonight (Central time).

"Oh."

It was said in the tone of voice that someone both very surprised and very impressed would have. Clearly, Fox had also not been the kind to expect 'nice English Professor' to suddenly just pin a person to the ground (Cass would be so sad to know she missed it). But at least someone had gotten the job done before she'd had to decide what to do, because...well.....her eyes glanced around to try and spot the gun that had hit the ground at some point.

Detective Kuroda's question caused her brows to furrow slightly. "I'm just doing my job," she admitted. She'd been notified to respond (well, it had been somewhat optional), and now here she was.

And there that thing was. She looked from the shadow as it spoke, then over to Jeremiah. Then back to the shadow. Hoo boy, this looked like one of those magic-things. Probably a 'hey, your shooty-shooty-bang-bang won't work on this, Fox' types. And Fox was 100% totally and completely not magical at all. But never the less, with a deep breath, Fox did pull her gun.

"Worse that can happen is it doesn't work..." she mumbled more to herself than anybody else as she carefully took aim, then pulled the trigger.
