When it was all said and done, there was no longer a Mercer domain. At least, one did not exist currently. Perhaps there would be one again when the Charter was recreated and the old one fully destroyed. It had been Fell and Adze that had lead them to their temporary quarters, the pair of fetches quiet, somber, and focused. Fell, especially, given what had gone on. After all, she had been one of Lord Ezra's children for a long time.

They were left alone quickly, there was not much to discuss, and instead Jeremiah turned to Algie. His fingers curled against the no longer burnt clothing (as they had been magically healed, much like the burns) and tugged him near. Jeremiah's other hand went to Algie's face, sliding down to rest against his neck. "Do you want something with a n** in it for your throat?"

Adze had been a bit dejected about their portion of the Court being gone, but his own 'might-is-right' point of view seemed to turn Ezra's conquering into something of a positive. Not that he'd say it.. to Fell or to the noble Mercers.

Alg had been healed before they'd gone and now sported fresh pink on the back of his neck and one of his legs. Food and drink also brought but he'd mostly been drinking water.

"No," Alg's voice was rough from the heat and smoke still but it wasn't debilitating. "I can live until we get home." It was still to be noted that he disliked sleeping over here, as well as eating and drinking. What he did was out of necessity.

His fingers brushed his husband's cheek as he searched his face, "How are you?"

Anything with Ezra was not an easy situation for Jeremiah and he knew it.

"Not like I couldn't pop back to get something from our own stores, precious." Jeremiah said with a small smile, though it faltered when Algie's fingers touched his cheek. His hand came up, curling around the other man's wrist and his thumb pressing to the pulse point there.

Then it was easy to tell the depth of his feelings. The complexity of the entire situation. Jeremiah would be forever at odds with the Burning Man, even know, and it was a slow process to reconcile. At least he was compartmentalizing because that was for the best.

He could not falter, not now.

"Tired," he replied, sighing. "There's more to it than that but I'm not entirely sure putting it into words is possible."

Alg shook his head with a small smile. No, it wasn't about having liquor from home. It was about this place, this situation, and that he wouldn't be comfortable until they were finished. Drinking was a comfort and now was not the time.

"I know," He lifted on his toes to kiss his husband softly. "We just have to get through."

Can't blame a man for trying, he said at the head shake. Jeremiah knew that Algie would find no comfort while here but he tried regardless. Comforts were for when they were home and this was all said and done.

His hand raised to press against the side of Algie's cheek when he was kissed, a sigh escaping.

"I don't doubt that we will." His hand slipped to press against Algie's chest, to feel the beat of his heart. "We've come this far, we have to follow through. Regardless of what the Burning Man has tried to do and how he tried to manipulate the situation."

"It's frustrating.." Alg sighed and folded his hand over his husband's against his chest.

"We've been working so hard. We've.. we're trying to redeem the Court as well and.." Everything Ezra did just was backwards steps towards trust for the nobles. It was almost hurtful the level that the others didn't trust them.. for no good reason besides what others had done.

It was more than just what others had done. Most of the nobility had not done anything to warrant trust so in the end it was not surprising. Despite that Jeremiah had reached out to the beings of this world and helped, there was still more that he could be doing.

"It's only something we can do with the assistance of others," replied Jeremiah, is voice somber. "There's no other way for us to do so but ... this is a step towards making things better and proving that we wish to step away from the past." His other hand lifted, fingers running through Algie's hair and cradling his cheek again.

"Our actions, in this case, will speak louder."

Alg's hair mussed as always, not that he would fix it, and he plucked his glasses off to rub his face before he tilted it to Jeremiah's hand.

There was a quiet admittance, "I wanted him to die." It was near a whisper, and of course in contrary to what he'd said at the time. But still, deep inside him, he'd wanted it more than anything.

"I know," responded Jeremiah, his voice just as quiet. He was not under any delusions that Algie would not seek death for the Burning Man given the chance. It was still not so simple for him and too many unknowns.

His thumb brushed against Algie's cheek, leaning in to press a kiss to his brow.

He still did. He also didn't give a damn if the human element of Ezra had lived. If things had been more clear, more cut and dry, he would have seen the burning man gone for good and everything he'd ever been connected to.

Alg closed his eyes to the kiss and sighed. After a quiet pause he spoke again, "I probably won't sleep here."

"Precious," Jeremiah said with a sigh, fingers brushing against his cheek, "you really need to at least try. I am ... admittedly going to likely be out like a light whenever I lay down." Even with the recharge earlier, that which he had pulled from the fire and the rush from Algie, he was still exhausted.

Which he had seen, once they had returned, when Jeremiah had been leaning heavily on both his cane and Cass. Though, of course, the cane was now gone- burnt. Thankfully it was not one of the nice ones.

"I know," That he should sleep and that Jeremiah especially needed rest. The professor caught his husband's hands in his own once more and began to tug him to the bed in the quarters they were inhabiting for the night.

"May as well lay down now.."

Jeremiah did not say anything else, just let Algie pull him towards the bed. At it, he ended up sitting down and, with a quick tug, pulled the shorter man down and into his lap. Except that all he did was wrap his arms around him and press his face into his hair to breathe deep.

Just a moment like this. That was all he wanted.

Alg sat in his husband's lap and turned to wrap his arms around him, tilting his head to the other's face.

No matter how much rest it was never enough. No matter what the respite, it was never a true break.

They had to steal these moments when they could.
