Rabbit closed his eyes, his hands still on the pieces he'd forced together. He thought of a cooling breeze, of easing the stress and exhaustion that would result from a casting as large as the new Charter, and he pushed that intent into the fan parts, sending them idly spinning.

He knew there was something wrong almost immediately.

"Erin... get down!"

The explosion rocked the counter of Broken Circuits, sending metal and plastic shrapnel flying in all directions. Several pieces of it grazed Rabbit's face and outstretched hands, but thankfully they missed all the vital parts.

He stood shakily once the smoke had cleared, poking at one of the cuts on his cheek. "Okay, yeah, I think I need some help putting things together so that that doesn't happen again. I hope this stuff wasn't too expensive?"

item mechanics

item creation mechanic
Players must roll 1d10 in each post where they attempt to create their attuned item. The d10 determines the success or failure of their attempt. Four successes are required to create the item; each post must be filled out.

roll results
1-- A success! Your item has taken a little of your desired trait into itself.
2-- A failure. You have blown up one of your less expensive reagents and caused yourself minor damage.
3-- A failure. Your item has proven resistant to one of your reagents; you will need more power or more reagent to make it work.
4-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
5-- A failure. Your item has cracked, and must be repaired.
6-- A failure. You have blown up one of your most expensive reagents and done yourself moderate damage. The reagent must be replaced.
7-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
8-- A failure. You pushed too hard, and the item rejected your attempt to imbue it with its traits.
9-- A success! Your item has taken a little more of your desired trait into itself.
10-- A failure. You didn't push hard enough, and have given yourself a headache.

He paid closer attention after that, adhering pieces where he was told instead of where he thought they might go, and it seemed to work for a while. The next time he tried to send air into the fans, they spun almost happily, a very fine flare of glitter present in the exhaust. Rabbit was immensely tickled by it, holding his hand up to the shimmer to get it on his fingers.

They started working largely separately after that, and for Rabbit, things kind of went to s**t. He was distracted by his unfamiliarity with the parts, but so determined to do things right that he gave himself a headache first thing, wishing he had brought aspirin instead of a bottle of water. They had plenty of water here. Aspirin, not so much.

But wait!

Couldn't he just magic up some aspirin if he wanted to? He made clothes for his kids and they came out just fine. Rabbit might have pushed too much air into the fan as he came up with this grand idea, taking a break to craft a bottle of magical aspirin and down two tablets. The water was useful after all.

He knew the sound of imminent explosion now, and he was able to alert Erin to its possibility before they could be injured again. The fans suffered a little, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed at this point.

There was a loud crack as he tried to magic some more air into the fans. Discreetly detaching the ruined piece, Rabbit tried to move it out of view before Erin noticed.

Not surprisingly, Rabbit was starting to get tired. He could also feel another headache coming on, but his magical aspirin dulled it before it could get too bad.

Head in his hands, Rabbit tried to imbue the fans once more. The fans said no.

The glitter had almost faded from his hands, and Rabbit was about to step back and let Erin handle things on her own when he threw some air at their contraption with just the right mixture of focus and lack of care. He could almost see it seep inside, and as it did the machinery shimmered and faded a little, turning slightly transparent.

"Hey!" he said with a grin. "It looks like we're finally getting somewhere."

Erin had been content to let Rabbit start them off, given the parts began to explode the minute he started. Good thing she brought most of the stock, jeez. It took him awhile, and she guided him through some of the connectors, but some number of broken parts later and they were in business.

So it was her turn.

"And we connect thi--- DUCK ******** s**t OH GOD" she screamed, diving under the counter for a moment as the fan she was working with erupted in a gust of wind. And by erupted she meant exploded.

Fan blades went everywhere and Erin grimaced as the magic took some of the fan blades into the ceiling or out the door.

"... Whoops, too much I think?"

The next several minutes were spent cursing as Erin was beaned in the head with a fan connector as the whole assembly decided to fly away.

Literally.

She was sure it had sprouted wings with how fast the damn thing moved.

"Maybe... less magic and more glue..." she said quietly.

This time, Erin added the lightest pressure of magic she could. The trio of fans hooked into the power supply did not go flying, but slowly began to turn as she slowly soaked the power supply with magic. She panted, not just because her head was starting to hurt (from either the fan connector or the use of magic, she wasn't sure) but because she was practically holding her breath through the whole thing.

Nothing exploded. Nothing flew away. All in all, it did okay.

"Oh thank Hylia..."

And then in great fashion she exploded a power supply.

In her face.

Because it wasn't like she'd been eying that 800 watt Rosewell unit for two months or anything.

The next piece she grabbed was the RasberryPI unit she's brought to sort of control everything. Except when exposed to magic, the damn circuit board cracked.

Her eye twitched, and she very calmy attempted to superglue it back together.

And now she knew why it cracked. The RasberryPI were rather resilient to magic and completely non absorbent. Even on the slow end of imbuing it with magic, it still fought against her little an insufferable child.

Idly she wondered if it had to do with the circuits...
