    Alright, take two.

Shiloh had done a little more premptive gathering, but it was for more mundane stuff. They had the gems, the bones and the scales; now the had coarse sand from the beach, small vials of salt water... Beel was looking over the haul with a small nod.

"Good," he said, "I would suggest combining all of this for use in your spell, perhaps pour the saltwater into the conch and try to lock it within?"

"Maybe we should pulverize the rest into a salve." Shiloh suggested.

"You would..." Beel sighed, "I think both of your blood would be an excellent addition as well, if only because of its potency as a conductor." He looked down again, "What say you, Jamie?" They both turned to him.

It was true Jamie had been in this magic business for a while now. He understood it well enough and didn't fear experimenting. They'd making something great out of one of these conches, there was no question. Still, when all eyes were on him, he pursed his lips and felt like all the answers he'd had were gone in an instant.

Damn the metaphorical spotlight.

"Oh, um, uhhhh maybe the... bones and scales and... blllood could make a salve? The sand and the gemstones are both kinda like minerals, so maybe if we could grind up the gems and leave them course with the sand it could be like-" he didn't want to say decorative, but that's basically what he was thinking, "-like our beach. Could we use it to, um, create a magical barrier that'll keep the water inside?"

Was he rambling? It felt like he was rambling.

Beel was not judgmental, "Good." He nodded encouragingly, "Magic is about belief. There is a technically aspect to it, but I've always been a proprietor of following my gut and doing what instinct tells me to do first and foremost. It's primal and a little messy, but it's also pure with intent." He sat down on a chair, "I won't help with your casting, but I'll monitor you in case of a catastrophe. We are dealing with the magic of a seasoned Moonwalker and a Noble of the Court."

"That being said, I suggest you both get comfortable. The casting will surely be extensive."

Shiloh took a seat on the grassy knoll again, some of the ingredients finding their way to his hands. Beel had provided for them two items; a mortar and pestle, and an exquisite dagger with an ivory handle. Shiloh set to work smashing. Let him smash.

"Once you're both done, I believe you should begin." Beel sat back and crossed one leg over the other.

The grass was soft, it was a great place to plop right next to Shiloh (probably closer than necessary) so he could get to work, too. The mortar and pestle would be perfect for the fish scales or the brittle bones, but the gemstones were another story entirely. Smashing diamonds would be no easy feat. Or, well, maybe it would be with the help of magic.

Jamie and Beel were absolutely in the same camp when it came to that sort of thing. Belief, instinct, strong intent... sometimes it was difficult to wholeheartedly believe in himself and his own abilities, but with redoing the charter as their ultimate goal, there simply wasn't room for failure.

As Jamie pressed his hands together, the gems tucked carefully between his palms, he imagined he had the might to pulverize them to literal dust. With a little time and a lot of concentration, it worked.

"I think... I'm ready whenever," he said. The gems had been crushed to coarse powder and separated into little bowls, one for each color.

Shiloh watched him as he ground up the scales, the bones. After a moment he set it aside and grabbed the knife along with another container. "Don't freak out," He told Jamie, mostly because he knew he would feel the sensation of being cut himself.

One swift drag across his hand produced more than enough blood, the issue here was it was trying to grow and the second it hit the air it became syrupy thick. Shiloh watched as it dripped into the bowl in long sticky strands, which led him squeezing his palm for more purchase. "Well, it'll stick at least." He huffed; this s**t was so ******** messy.

Not wanting to waste any time on that end (the blood collected was starting to produce a thin layer of moss, he set to work bathing one of the conch shells in it. After a moment the ground mixture was added, the saltwater was poured into the opening, the pearl and the aquamarine and the diamond was slathered onto the sticky blood. This is really ******** weird he thought to Jamie, but that was okay. Wouldn't be the first time. Let's pool our magic, okay?

He didn't wait for an answer, because he knew the answer was going to be yes. Turning to face his boyfriend, he held the conch out for him to touch in tandem, and then began to focus. Beel was right; they had a shitload of magic between the two of them, but sure as s**t the conch was starting to react, the blood starting to... absorb? It began to glow faintly as it smelled of sea salt...

Funny, Jamie thought the sensation of Shiloh's cut striking over their mental bond probably hurt more than the actual cut did, or more than it would hurt to be cut himself. Chalk it up to really, truly caring about someone. At least it was paying off, though. He wanted to make sure he did right by Shiloh as he focused his magic. Instead, he tried a little too hard.

In the midst of trying too hard, one of the larger pieces of sapphire shot off the shell like a magic-propelled rocket, knocking Jamie in the face right below the eye. It hurt and he wibbled a little as he replaced it.

Oh, and while he did that, he smoothed some of Shiloh's blood over a tiny crack that had formed where the sapphire shot from. It seemed to do the trick, at least, that syrupy bandaid-blood...

Maybe he was just being picky, but Jamie thought the shell needed one more aquamarine, just to balance out the colors.

s**t, he'd gotten distracted redecorating and neglected to actually try at all. First he'd tried to hard, now he wasn't trying enough. Damn, Jamie was starting to get a headache.

And now... now Jamie was satisfied. The picking and fiddling had calmed him down after his initial worry over Shiloh and he finally felt like he could well and truly focus. The smell of sea salt in the air was comforting, familiar in an unfamiliar way, and he closed his eyes so he could imagine the ocean. In his thoughts, he pulled the ocean to him, he held it fast, and he held Shiloh's hand as the waves washed over their bare feet. This was the gift he gave his boyfriend in that moment as they tried to transform the conch. It was a feeling of peace, of calm.

Jamie let himself fade into their shared headspace. I think we're really doing it, he said. The conch looked less like a bloody mess and more like it might actually be forming into something significant.

Shiloh smile as he accepted this gift with open arms; the gem that smashed Jamie in the face was a little concerning, but he knew Jamie's limits, and he knew Jamie could take a whole hell of a lot more. Too bad the conch was still trying to work against him...

Did he need to push a little more? Maybe...

    It's working I think! Yeah...

The blood had soaked in, leaving something white and opalescent and silky pulsing underneath the surface of the shell. Just as Jamie had pushed the wave towards him, he mentally pushed it back, content to let their thoughts and their magic and their emotions swirl around in a big whirlpool. He focused on Jamie's love of the ocean and expanded on it. Their thoughts clicked together for a blissful moment.

"Just a little more..." Beel murmured from... somewhere. He was probably still in the chair, but it was hard to tell in the messy maze of his drift with Jamie.
