Things had started with a conversation over lunch one day. A candidate had been discussing a kind of fungus that grew up on the mountain and Cami mentioned seeing it while she was out hunting before. Since the mushroom had some kind of medicinal property, he'd asked if she could show him where it was, and things developed from there. The place where she'd seen it growing was at least a half a day's hike to and from the Weyr, so they made a plan to go out the next day they both had off.

Waking before dawn as usual, Cami was already ready to go before the sun had risen, dressed in the one set of clothes that hadn't been provided to her by the Weyr (though her winter furs remained on her bunk, now that summer had started) with her quiver belted around her waist. They were planning to meet up at the Weyr's entrance, but Cami had one place she needed to stop off at first. She hadn't forgotten the promise she made to Chayrel some months earlier to take him along next time she was going out of the Weyr. She'd gone out hunting a few times since then, but those had either been spur of the moment things, or else their rest days hadn't happened to fall together. Hopefully today would be different.

Getting the location of his room from another candidate, she pushed on the door to open it. "Chayrel, do you have a rest day today? I'm going outside the Weyr again." she told him. Granted, there'd be one other person coming along, but she didn't think he would mind. As her eyes adjusted to the dimmer light, she peered into the room, frowning questioningly. "Why are you two in the same bed?"

Chayrel hadn't expected Cami to just walk into his quarters. To say he was surprised was an understatement -- he jerked up, and away from Fehral -- and in his tangle of bed furs and sheets, he wound up toppling off the bed and onto the floor. It wasn't as if the beds had been made to hold multiple people, and a single Candidate ran the risk of falling out of the bed even on a good day. This was not a good day.

Shinnikan and Kellan had already left for the day. Where to, Chayrel didn't know or care; he'd heard them sneak past, and there was a mutual understanding among the small group of boys not to ask judgment or care what the others did. All Chayrel had known was that it had been early, and it was his rest-day, so he had no intention of moving. Besides which, Fehral hadn't moved to his cot the night prior, and he was enjoying their closeness.

It was nice, to say the least, and not something the black haired boy was willing to give up so quickly. Some said it was nothing more than residual flight lust, but Chayrel did hope that maybe, Fehral and he could be something more permanent. A few dozy kisses later, and the beginnings of something more, was when Cami made her surprise entrance.

Now, embarrassed and a tumbled on the floor, he couldn't keep himself from glaring up at the girl. His cheeks were flushed red from embarrassment at both being caught and looking a mess on the floor. What a way to start his morning. "Yer s'possed to knock!" He snarled, scrambling to pull himself up. He wasn't naked (but oh so close to it), and Cami was still a girl.

"An' he's in bed cause we were sleeping!" He stressed, not caring that his answer didn't entirely answer her question. He was worried she'd blab to the Candidatemaster and get them all in trouble. Candidates weren't really supposed to fraternize in the Barracks, but it seemed it was a rule that wasn't heavily enforced. Maybe. Chayrel wasn't sure, but he didn't want to risk it. "It was cold last night," he added belatedly, as if it just occurred to him.

Yes.

That sounded feasible. Yep.

Nevermind that he could have found another blanket, or gotten into warmer clothes.

Dorianus had been talking with a couple other healer/candidates at lunch one day over a fungus he had read about during his apprenticeship when another candidate had mentioned she had seen one during her hunting outings. Intrigued, he had asked her to show him where it was the next time they had a rest day that feel at the same time.

He was standing at the weyr's entrance, his eyes looking over the pages of a notebook he carried along with him. It had musing about new practices and other techniques inside of it and he was preparing to write about this new fungus. From what he had read before, it had a deadening effect when it was applied to the skin and muscles. It could prove very useful in his surgical practices to help alleviate some of the pain without putting someone completely out.

While the long black haired male had the book in his right hand, his grey eyes reading over his scratches, a small surgical knife was being twirled in his left hand in a very absentminded manner. A fidget he had picked up since he was little, he always felt more comfortable with something moving in his hands if he was idle. A shoulder bag was resting on the ground beside where he stood leaned against a wall. It contained a couple of first aid items, in case anything happened, a bag to place the mushrooms in and a couple of items of food. Going on treks out in the wilderness in search of herbs was not something new to him, so he knew how to be prepared for such a trek. Now he was just waiting for the girl, Cami he thought she had said her name was.

One of the Masterweavers had mentioned, offhandedly, that there were flowers that grew above the Weyr that they used fairly often for making Dyes with. Ones that, apparently, they had been running low on stock for. So when Ichta had overheard that there was a small group heading out above the Weyr, where she was frankly, not brave enough to head out to alone, she'd...well, Ichta had tried her best to look into it. But inconveniencing people was not her strongest suit and her nerves had left her lingering quietly.

Still, the group had been arranging to leave out that day from what information she had, so she'd had to muster up her courage (a whole 2 out of 100 points in her skill set, 50 of those points went to skittishness) and wait. Maybe they'd say no. Maybe they'd say yes. She wasn't sure which she wanted to happen.

She'd just headed down to the Weyr's entrance to wait and find out - but someone was already there. That someone was holding a sharp dangerous item in one hand and Ichta froze up, looking at it transfixed with a pointed nervousness. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh There was internal screaming.

"e-Excuse me..." her voice was quiet, and easily ignored if desired, "Do you know about the um..." She took a deep breath, then attempted to pipe up again. It made her voice sound like a dying instrument. "There are plants above the Weyr I'm looking for and I hear some others were going out that way, and...and..." she trailed off again.

She'd tried so hard.

Given what Fehral and Chayrel had been up to prior to that very much unwanted interruption, it was safe to say that Fehral was not dressed for company. Or... dressed... at all. He turned beet red when the girl barged in, grabbing after the furs as Chayrel fell out of the cot. ... Unfortunately, as Chayrel fell, he took the furs with him, and suddenly Fehral had an awful lot to be embarrassed about. "Could you please turn around, Cami?" Fehral said, and if it came out in a squeak, well, he wasn't to be blamed. He hadn't been expecting company, and he sure hadn't expected to be interrupted quite then. ... And he had a rather bad habit, now successfully broken, of sleeping in the nude. He just tended to generate heat enough on his own, and he hadn't been on his own, and shards! "Just... just for a moment?" Shaffit, this took him back to the days in the mine when he'd had no privacy to speak of. He'd hated every minute of that, and he wasn't enjoying this overly much. Stiff with embarrassment, he used the pillow as a makeshift cover.

Whatever response Cami had expected her entrance to cause, Chayrel freaking out quite so spectacularly was certainly not it. Though she didn't react much, her eyes followed him all the way from his bed onto the floor, and back up again. "Oh. Sorry." she said to his snarled admonishment, although her voice was not all that apologetic. How could she be expected to remember every one of their silly customs at once? She'd never even lived somewhere with a door before. She'd've thought Chayrel would understand that.

She took a small step forward, pulling the door closed behind her. Her frown deepened. Obviously she could tell they were sleeping. She'd meant why were they not in their own beds, that seemed clear enough to her. But after another moment, Chayrel did finally explain. "Really? I thought it was quite warm." she said, accepting the premise but not the fact. Even in the dead of winter, she'd never found the barracks uncomfortably cold, never mind that it was nearly summer now. Between four people, thick walls, and the aforementioned closed door, it heated up quite considerably at night. But everyone had different tolerances, she supposed. And Nabol was further south than where she was used to sleeping.

Chayrel's roommate, meanwhile, seemed equally put out. Apparently Holdfolk were awfully testy about this whole knocking business. She'd have to remember that one in the future. She sighed heavily, but did finally turn around when she was asked. It's not like she hadn't seen a naked man before. What were they getting so bothered about? "We're going looking for some mushroom." she explained while her back was turned. "Dorianus will be there, if you know him. I thought I'd try to catch some rabbits while we're out."

She put a hand on her hip, glaring at... the door. She hadn't realized this would be such an ordeal. "Do you want to come, or no?" she asked.

A very small voice cut through Dorianus' thoughts and the blade he had been spinning stopped. Grey eyes lifted from his book and moved to look at who had spoken to him. It wasn't Cami so he was wondering just who this girl was and what she needed from him. A once over of her appearance helped him to see that she wasn't in need of any medical aide, of course he wasn't the first person any other candidate would go to if they were hurt anyways.

He waited for her to finish speaking, which seemed to be taking some time, the girl seemed more likely to flee then actually get her words out.

"You want to go along with us?" It was obvious what she was going to ask, even though she trailed off after she had started to speak. He didn't care if she went with them or not, but he wondered if Cami did, she was the one who had the bow and arrow, the actual weapon out of them. "I don't mind if you wish to tag along with us." He assumed that if Cami didn't want this girl to go along then she would tell her to leave.

Easily closing his book and putting it in to his satchel, as well as the blade he had held. He turned his attention back to the girl beside him. "I'm Dorianus."

No worries, Dorianus can be intimidating to a lot of people.

Oh good, she didn't have to try and find the rest of her words, visibly relaxing as the blade vanished from his hand. "Yes, that. I just heard that some were heading out and I thought it would be...nice and safe rather than heading out on my own," she seemed to sigh, managing to find her voice enough to string together a whole sentence. When Dorianus introduced himself, Ichta offered a small bow of her head. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Ichta." she introduced in turn.

Meeting people was hard. Why couldn't most people be quiet like Goran was?

BastetAmun
Whoops a short one. And Ichta is just a mighty spook.
