INTRODUCTION

It's early morning, with a red sunrise spilling over the horizon as a light wind rustles the grass.  The pride is a few days in to a migration north, moving back up towards the Outpost after lingering so long in the southern portion of their territory.  A group of lionesses left on a hunt just a short while ago, while the Abaholi have been gone for several hours making their rounds.  They're due back soon, but won't be considered late unless the hunting party gets back before they do.

Things have been calm since the drought ended, giving everyone a welcome respite from strife.  With the hard times behind them, the cubs born during the drought are growing into adolescence. The foreign lionesses seem to have settled in well, with the largest of the set now looking suspiciously pregnant.  Also doing well for himself is the pride's only Inselelo, Kuhasa, who's already sired what looks to be a strong litter for Maditah.

All in all, the future is finally showing some real promise...

User ImageSher-Kha-t stretched languidly in the morning light, extending her hind limbs and lifting back her head until her neck produced a most satisfying sound. She'd been awake since the hunting party had gone to seek breakfast, but not awake enough to actually go along; there were more than enough of them, however, that one extra Busisa would not be missed. She would take her turn tomorrow.

Once she had stretched to her satisfaction, she shook off what sleep was left and set to grooming herself.

User ImageBeside her, and in a similar state of semi-wakefulness, Inhliziyo butted her head against the golden lioness' shoulder and grunted a partially coherent offer to help out. The offer was accompanied by a press of her paw to gently push the other down and into a position more suited to grooming. The Umzingeli's colorfully-tufted tail waved busily back and forth as she went about her task. It was a good, quiet way to start the morning, and hopefully by the time stomachs started to growl there would be food to be had.

User ImageIshaka'sil yawned heavily, the sound drifting out as a soft roar as she stretched her lean body lazily. She had been out the day before and had decided to sleep through today's trip. Blinking open bleery eyes she looked round, automatically lifting a paw to bat at her sister's red tailtip as it flickered past her nose. Her own blue tail lay curled beside her though not at all hidden. Isshaka was a bold and proud girl, and anyone who tried to tell her that her tail was a bad omen usually got a paw across their face.

User Image Maditah had been awake and watchful ever since the hunting party had left, her five cubs were all clustered about her in a big sleeping pile. Old enough now to cause plenty of trouble when awake, they still slept for long stretches, allowing their mother to relax with her pride-sisters in relative quiet. Though that quiet was about to be broken as one of the sleeping bundles of fluff started to stirr, mewing and jostling as she stretched, prodding her sisters in the process.

Ama startled awake as something stuck into into her belly, sending her tumbling off the pile of cubs to land on her back in the sudden cold. "Ow! Qisa!" She complained instantly, even though she hadn't seen just who had been the one to wake her so rudely. The grey girl lifted he rhead upon hearing her name, blinking sleep from her eyes in a confused manner. "Me?" She half said, half yawned before looking over. "What I do?" Having not moved before being woken by her sibling's irate call, Qisa looked understandably confused.

Unbeknownst to Maditah or her sisters, one dangerously adventurous cub had managed to sneak away from the sleeping pile without getting caught.. and she was on her way to find something even more exciting than being squished by her sisters while she tried to sleep. Unfortunately for her, someone who recognized her was quick to spot her wandering off on her own. So Kuhasa, with a small sandy cub held in his mouth, walked up and dropped her before Maditah.

"Excuse me-- hey!"

Omisa tried to make another run for it but she was stopped suddenly when a large white paw caught her by the tail-- and she ended up flopping down on the ground and smiling sheepishly up at her mother.

"I think you lost something," Kuhasa said finally, shaking his head and smiling at Maditah.

Khanga was on the move, albeit slowly. She had missed the call to hunt and failed to catch up so she had come back around to hang out with the others who stayed behind. Everything was so quiet right now, it was becoming more and more annoying that she had missed her chance to join the hunting party. She had energy to burn and nothing to burn it on.. and she wasn't helping matters by dragging her feet as she moved.

But the day was still just barely started, there was a lot of room for improvement in that. For now, she found an unoccupied sunny spot and sat herself down to watch as the rest of the lionesses as they started their mornings.

Maditah looked up from where she had been seperating Qisa and Ama as the two had started to squabble, likely the distraction their sister had used to escape their mother's watchful attention. Arching a brow as her wayward daughter tried to escae the large male, Maditah tutted softly but smiled as Omisa grinned up at her at last. "What have I told you about running off on your own?" She asked in that loving but firm tone all mothers adopted. Turning her attention to the big male she smiled, warm and grateful. "Thank you Kuhasa. They get more troublesom the older they get... " She glanced meaningfully at Omisa and then at the two still arguing cubs she held pinned down.

"Care to join us?" She asked him, perfectly happy to have the Inselelo sit with her and the cubs. After all he had already proved himself a successful babysitter to his daughters.

With the soft-furred Busisa yielding willingly to her grooming, having sunk back to the ground and rolled over onto her side, Inhliziyo rumbled in busy contentment as she worked.  She was soon interrupted by one of her sisters, however, as Ishaka'sil batted at her tail like a curious cub.  The dark lioness stopped in her ministrations long enough to roll her eyes at her mostly-tawny littermate. "If you're going to act like a cub," she teased affectionately, "Maybe you should go and join Maditah's."

Ziyo inclined her head in that direction, while Kha-t lifted hers to glance the same way, noting in a tone very much intended to invite gossip, "Kuhasa looks to be enjoying himself."

Nolaku* came up beside her aunt to sit near her in the sun, at a companionable distance that wasn't quite close enough to touch, and without saying a word.  She had been fully awake went the hunt left, but as she was not yet Zalwa, had not been able to go, and so she'd had to linger.  She wasn't disappointed, per se, as she was not especially eager to begin her career as a huntress, seeing as she was named after her grandmother who'd died in a hunting accident.  An inauspicious name to be given, in her opinion, but it wasn't as though she could complain to her mother about it.

The young lioness watched the goings-on with narrowed eyes, a small frown crossing her features as her gaze fell upon Maditah and her cubs.  The expression was fleeting and quickly wiped away, her jealousy of fully intact families kept closely guarded.

((*Nolaku is an adol, I just can't be bothered to find the proper image atm.))

Naturally, Safura had opted to stay with the group, rather than go on the hunting party and naturally, she was staring at the cubs that were running around underpaw at the moment. She had managed to keep from seeming any sort of disdainful. She was supposed to be the one to bear Kuhasa's cubs first and now, with his cubs surely already inside her belly, she couldn't exactly wait for someone else to kick him out to try again. This was incredibly vexing.

She would just have to show these cubs up with her own somehow. With her stripes, they were sure to be beautiful, that was guaranteed, but she would have to convince them that while they were second born in the pride to their father, that it didn't make them any worse than the first. She would make them feel proud of who they were, make them realize their perfection and they would go on and love her and make her become that much closer to gaining a higher rank within the pride.

Still, her tail twitched and she stared, the only signs that she might be irritated from the situation at all. She would have to have a talk with Kuhasa, she thought, or perhaps another lioness who was definitely a mother, about why on earth this was taking so long. If Kuhasa had done something wrong during their... courtship, then she would have his head for spoiling all of her plans for the future!

If I wanted any of my lionesses to be apart of the hunting party that was sent out, would I wait for them to be summoned back in somehow so I could start RPing them here, or should we just assume that the hunting party are made up of NPCs?

User ImageShaking her head a bit to peer out from under the zebra pelt she wore to protect her from the sun, Ukufana yawned widely and gazed out in the direction the hunting party had gone off in some time before. They'd been gone for a decent amount of time now and she was beginning to wonder if they were coming back at all. She was hungry, dang it! The young lioness rose to her paws once more, tired of sitting in one place for so long, and turned to head back towards the grouped lionesses. A fond smile crossed her features as she spotted the pile of sleepy cubs and she began to make her way over to them. A familiar shadow fell over her for a moment and she glanced up in time to see the silvery feathers of Khapha's wings beating frantically to land gently upon her back.

"See anything interesting?" she asked as her companion situated herself on the zebra pelt. Khapha clacked her beak in irritation, ruffling her feathers just a bit.

"Nothin'. Not so surprisin' though, ain't been much t'see lately," she groused. Now that they were both old enough to take on the roll of Cinga, Khapha was eager to get out into the lands that surrounded the pride. Ukufana knew there was still a little bonding ceremony to do, though, in which they would need to exchange a bit of themselves with one another. She had been saving some of her baby teeth that had fallen out for the occasion, but she wasn't too sure if that would count or not.

Making her way over to the pile of cubs, the albino gave Kuhasa and Maditah a little nod and a smile. "They're adorable," she said, looking down at the bundles of fluff. "And all girls, too...a great blessing."

Khapha gave a little caw of amusement and peered over Ukufana's shoulder to get a better look at them. "Snack sized," she teased, which made Ukufana roll her eyes and her shoulders to upset the bird a bit. Khapha opened her wings to steady herself and nipped at the young lioness' neck. Tit for tat.

The hunting party is there as a convenient 'out' for what members aren't present for this RP. In my case, I have a LOT of BL characters, enough that they would mob up and overtake things, so a bunch of mine are in the hunting party to keep them out of the way.

tl;dr if you choose to have someone in the hunting party, they'll miss this ORP.

Better late than never, he always said. He hadn't gone to the hunting party, and so he was finding the rest of the pride gathered in their increasing anxiousness and excitement to finally move. The large male moved slowly, alright with leaving his mother in her den for a longer sleep. She was getting up there in age, she deserved to sleep!

As usual, he found himself a group of females and his head canted to the side as he slowly started to approach.

"What's going on?" He asked while looking around from face to face.

Nomvula had opted out of the hunting party this time, for one particular reason: She wanted to oogle the precious new litter in the pride! It was a litter of all female cubs, a small miracle, since it broke Nomvula's heart every time she had to see the male adolescents leave their mothers.

She contented herself to sitting herself a respectable distance away from the cubs and their mother, though she found herself gazing longingly at them. Whether the longing was in hopes of sitting nearby them and the other lionesses that approached or having her own litter one couldn't tell.

Still, she kept herself near one another of the lionesses in the pride, one she recognized to be called Khanga. Turning her gaze from the cubs, she turned to smile at her companion.
"It's so wonderful to have cubs in the pride again, isn't it?"

User Image While she'd woken up when the hunting party had, Imvula had not joined. Her reasons were embarassing, to her own admittance. While having a stroll after their break from traveling, she'd tripped on a rock and was now walking with a prominent limp. One of the older lionesses, the busisa Mhisani, had assured her it was simply a sprain and, if she didn't strain it too much, it'd heal in no time. Now she paced, with her limp, back and forth. "I should be out there hunting. I should be able to join the hunts." She paused, glaring at her own forepaw. How could she have done something so stupid?

User Image Normally the one to fret and worry, Zola lazily opened one eye to watch Imvula. "Things happen for a reason, even bad things." The pale lioness, marked with honey-gold spots, stretched out and yawned. Something she'd come to realize, as a seer, was that anything she saw of the future was only potential. Nothing was certain. It was part of why she didn't talk about her visions, never truly broadcast her ability. She was confident the hunting party would come back with food, and she was confident that, whatever happened, they'd come out strong. The pride disbanding was very rarely a vision she ever got. Rolling onto her back, Zola watched the cubs at play, smiling to herself. She missed being that little, sometimes.

Mazuri was most content to spend her time hunting, but this particular occasion, she had chosen to stay behind while her sisters went out. After all, there was new life in the pride and she wanted to get a closer look. With the new cubs tussling among one another, her own cubhood seemed so far away now.

She had come up beside Maditah, a purr on her lips as she gazed at the little ones fondly.
"They're all so beautiful, Maditah." She said to their mother, beaming at her. "And they shall grow without the hardships of the drought." She smiled, "Something you're pleased about, I'm sure."

While many occuppied themselves admiring the cubs, others with grooming, others with general socializing, and some just wishing breakfast would arrive sooner rather than later, a bird wheeled overhead, circling for a few minutes before alighting in a scraggly tree. The sandy-feathered falcon, while not belonging to any Cinga, might be a semi-familiar sight to the attentive, as she was regularly in the company of the Qyrhyeshti lionesses...or had been until a month ago, when she'd flown off and not returned. Until now. The avian flexed and settled her wings, dipping her head to straighten feathers ruffled in flight.

If anyone could tear their attention away from their morning routines and the pride's latest additions, they might notice more than the sun on the horizon: there was a distinctly dark shape now working its way steadily closer, though it was still far enough yet that, with the sun directly behind it, no real detail was readily apparent aside from the darkness of color and relative size, but it was definitely headed right for the group. If an avian were to be sent to investigate, they would find it to be an exceptionally dark brown lion.
