Amalahle yawned hugely as she rolled over, batting automatically at the fluffy tip of her sister's tail. The sandy-hued cub, one of only two in the small pile of fur, was snuggled up happily against their mother's side. Maditah was dozing, but every time one of the cubs moved, her ear would twitch backwards, proving that she would wake at the slightest disturbance to her family.

Ama yawned again, then squeeked as a foot was shoved in her open mouth. The culprit was one of the sandy cub's sisters. Shuqisa was the darkest of the litter of five, and one of the most cheeky. Giggling at Ama's perturbed expression and outraged squeek, Qisa pulled her paw out of her sister's mouth before the other cub could bite down. "Lazy butt!" She whispered loudly under her breath, earning herself a scowl. "Am not!" Ama retorted, swotting at her younger sibling, aiming at Qisa's face but missing by a wide margin and smacking one of the other sleeping cubs.

Omisa was the unlucky, accidental target in the squabble between her two wakeful sisters and she woke with a screech at the unexpected assault. She stared, wide-eyed at the two offenders until she realized what was happening and pouted. She didn't want to be in the middle of this but she would put herself there if she had to! She was oldest, she would be responsiblest!

"What is goin' on!" she said, trying to puff her chest out indignantly but too caught up trying to disentangle herself from the siblings that miraculously remained asleep.

Kuhasa's approach was quiet and respectful but he was in time to see the small cubs starting a fight- and he chuckled at them under his breath. He had seen them before, but not when they were big enough to get around quite like this. The fact that he had successfully sired a litter was undeniable now, if not in clear coloration but attitude.

He didn't say anything, not wanting to wake the other cubs or disturb Maditah.. but he sat down, watching curiously.

((Assuming he can sneak in without distracted cubs noticing, at least xD))

Qisa laughed as her sibling's hit missed, then gasped as Omisa woke up. Jabbing a paw in Ama's direction she shouted loudly. "SHE DID IT!" Ama looked deeply offended and growled savagly at the grey cub. "You started it!" She yelled in retaliation as she launched herself at Qisa with a cubbish roar of fury.

The sleeping Maditah yawned hugely, the sound melting into a soft roar as she came out of her doze. Blinking against the bright sun she lifted her head and turned to look down at the three cubs causing a fuss against her flank. Spotting the familiar grey shape beyond them of the Inselelo sat close by she smiled. "Hello there Kuhasa. Come to babysit?" She asked with a patient and playful smile, even as the small tussel beside her escalated rapidly to an all-out brawl.

"Wait wait wait!" Omisa squeaked indignantly as Qisa blamed Ama and Ama pounced Qisa. With one final yank, she was free of the sleeping pile and stumbling over to the other two. She huffed and paused before throwing herself onto them both, trying to get between them but really only managing to add to the chaotic scuffle. Her purpose was quickly lost and soon, she was chewing on someone's ear but had no idea whose (or why).

Kuhasa was shaking his head watching the trio of cubs fight when Maditah greeted him, and he glanced over to her and grinned.

"Sure," he said, "Are they always this rowdy, now?"

Qisa squeeked as Ama landed on her, rolling them both over in a tangle of fluff and limbs. Batting widly at her tan sister as Ama tried to bite at her, she let out a whoosh of air as their third sibling joined them, leaving Qisa on the bottom of the pile. Ama laughed as she was squished between her sisters, turning to grab at Omisa in return and consequently upsetting their precariously balanced positions. Tumbling off Qisa, Ama scrambled to stay in the battle, laughing and yelling as best she could around a front paw that had found its way into her mouth.

Qisa, finding herself no longer pinned, launched herself up and over her two siblings, grabbing at a wildly waving grey tail. "Mot ya!" She crowed around the mouthful of fur.

Maditah glanced down at the tussling cubs with a fond and patient expression. They were the lioness' first litter since arriving at the Ithambo and she was clearly content with motherhood. Chuckling softly she looked back at Kuhasa. "Whenever they aren't asleep.." She confirmed with a pleased smile. Not that she wanted misbehaving cubs, but they were healthy and energetic and playful. And when not fighting each other, they were a close-knit bunch. She had already seen them gang up aganst an older cub when the youngster had tried to muscle in on their games and pick on Amalahle.

"Would you stay with them while I go to the river?" She needed a drink and wanted to bathe, but she didn't want the cubs anywhere near the water just yet, not while they still had the habit of trying to run too fast and then tripping over. She had visions of all five tumbling into the river and being washed away.

As the battle raged, Omisa defaulted to flailing around wildly and hoping it provided some kind of success. At worst, she was contributing to the chaos and at best she might accidentally win even though she couldn't keep track of what was happening. She lost her grip on the ear and suddenly found her paw was stuck in someone's mouth.. and Qisa's sudden departure from and return to the fight sent her to the bottom of the pile where she started laughing and struggling to disengage.

Kuhasa watched the cubs go at it, wrinkling his nose and thinking about his owner brothers and sisters before being called back to the present by Maditah's entirely reasonable request. He had half-expected she was joking about him babysitting. He didn't have cubs yet but he had been informed more than once that the males weren't usually very involved.

"Sure," he said, grinning.

How much trouble could five cubs be? Two of them were even still asleep!

Maditah smiled gratefully. "Thank you. I shouldn't be long." Standing she moved away from the small brawl, careful not to disturb the two still miraculously sleeping. As a Busisa, Maditah had a different cultural background, and while her old pride had been incredibly similar to the Ithambo, there had been been just one male and a small group of females, all of whom had doted on any cubs born. Though obviously the male had been more distant, he had still enjoyed playing with them every so often.

The lioness smiled again at Kuhasa before moving away, headed towards where the river ran. As she left, Ama tumbled out of the fight and looked up, seeing her mother's rump walking off. "Ma?" She called out in a confused tone, before suddenly being flattened by Qisa landing on her. Both girls making breathless 'omph' sounds at the impact. "Oww!" She told her sister off, twitsting to swipe at Qisa's grey fur.

( Just in case, Qisa is pronounced 'Ki-sah'. )

Omisa was suddenly freed from battle as Ama was distracted and Qisa took advantage of it.. and she looked to see her mother walking away after realizing who Ama had called out too. And then, suddenly, she saw who was sitting there watching them.

Her head tilted and she reached out a paw to swat at and alert her sisters.

"Look!" she squeaked.

Kuhasa looked back from Maditah's departure to see that he had finally been spotted. By the sandy little version of himself, no less.. and she was tattling on him to her sisters. He watched and waited patiently to see what their reaction would be.

Both girls turned to look at Omisa, identical confused expresions on their faces. Ama was the one to follow their sibling's gaze and spot the giant grey male. With a squeak she jumped to her paws and stepped back behind Qisa and Omisa. Qisa finally saw Kuhasa and blinked up at him, wide-eyed with surprise and curiosity. "Hi!" She pipped up, absently swotting at Ama as the cub pressed between her and Omisa.

"You are our dad." She half stated, half asked, recalling their mum pointing out a large grey male several times and explaining who he was to them. Stepping forwards she peered up at him. "You are super fluffy." She chirruped, eyeing his mane.

Omisa was suddenly stuck at the front of the cub-pile staring up at the lion that Ama identified as their dad. She tried to scramble backwards as Kuhasa decided to drop down onto the ground and lower his head so he could be closer to eye-to-eye with them.

"I am," he agreed with a smile.

"I'm Omisa!" the cub said hurriedly, defaulting to the one and only thing she remembered from the things her mother had taught her about being polite: introducing herself. It didn't occur to her to offer the names of the others.

The large male's sudden movement halted Qisa's forward progress, but she didn't back up to re-join her two siblings. Instead Omisa's words prompted her to add her own. "I'm Shuqisa. But everyone calls me Qisa." She took another step and peered up into the furry face. He was so big! And Fluffy! She rather wanted to bounce about on his mane, it looked like it would hold her up easily.

Behind Omisa, Ama kept low trying to hide behind her slightly lighter sister. Wide grey eyes were fixed on Kuhasa. Even after her two siblings had given their names, she hesitated, barely able to even recall the lessons their mother had painstakingly given them.

Omisa watched as Qisa approached the one called 'dad' .. but she stuck stubbornly to Ama. Kuhasa wanted to laugh at the enormous change that his presence had created in them, but this wasn't a bad introduction so far. He really didn't know what to expect from cubs. Part of him felt bad they weren't a family like his had been but he knew they would be perfectly fine.

"It's nice to meet you Omisa and Qisa," he said, his gaze moving until he caught Ama's eyes, "And Amalahle."

Please be the right name. He cared enough to learn the names, the two sandy ones would be the easiest to guess .. if it had been Amalahle who introduced herself first. Ilahle's name was so similar..

"Why is your head so big?" Omisa asked suddenly, going in the complete opposite direction after her attempt at being polite. Qisa was right to observe that he was really fluffy.. but was it really all fluff in there?

Ama's eyes grew wide as he said her name, a name she hadn't given him! "Mind reader!" She squeaked in shock as she shrunk down lower behind her sister as if trying to hide from him. However she didn't look frightened, just over-awed.

Quisa grinned toothily up at the giant male as he named her, nodding her head happily. Her sister's startled exclamation however made her glance back at the two behind her, expression surprised and then excited as she looked back at Kuhasa. "Wow!!!! She gasped, fully impressed. "Are you really? What else do you know! What am I thinking right now?!" She challanged without pausing for breath before shutting her eyes tight and putting on a 'thinking really hard' face, her nose all scrunched up and brows wrinkled with effort.

LOL Kuhasa is going to be known as the telepathic lion from now on. XD

Kuhasa chuckled at the response he got out of Amalahle, more amused than relieved he had somehow managed to get it right. He didn't get a chance to defend the size of his head, even Omisa looked stunned at the revelation that he might be telepathic. So he gave Qisa a good, hard look before finally speaking up.

"You're thinking there's no way I could really be a mind reader," he said, then pausing for dramatic effect, "And you're eyes are starting to hurt."

Easy guesses that miiiiiight work out for him.. but if they did, only because they were so young still. Omisa went wide-eyed at his guesses and turned to look at Qisa expectantly.

Just like her sister Omisa, Ama also stared expectantly at their sibling. Though Ama looked far more purturbed than the excited Qisa.

Qisa's eyes popped open and she gave a loud exclamation of delight. "Yes!!" She squeeked in glee, bouncing about on the spot at this unexpected turn of events. "Wow!!! You are like... SUPER DAD!" She shouted, biuncing further in her extreme fever of joy.
